Want to play mario wii but it says I must update

I remember hearing on these forums that if I try and update my Wii through nintendo on a hacked Wii it would brick my system. I was wondering how I could get around new super mario bros wii requesting that I update?

Just continually run the game through Gecko OS instead of through the Disc Channel.

Also I don't think this board is made for this type of question (non-Smash related).

The chance of bricking with the update is the same between hacked and non-hacked wiis; and Mario Kart Wii does not contain the OS update with that risk. You are free to update.

If you do not want to, then use Gecko OS like Viet said.

i got nsmb wii, had to update, and bricked my wii. thank god i had bootmii. my advice is to load it thru gecko os. don't risk it.

NSMB Wii updates your Wii to System Menu 4.1, which doesn't affect Homebrew by any means. As long as you stay below 4.2, you should be okay.
