it really depends dude you can just do what you want just make sure the prize structure is fair and if you really need a program just use tio.

about price 5-15 is fine depending on the situation.

Well you've come to the right place.
There a few things you need to know.

First off, how many people do you think would be able to make your tournament?

When you have a rough idea, that's when you should go ahead and start looking around your area for a suitable venue. Community centres, churches, schools, anywhere that you can think of that might have some kind of function room.

You need to think about how long your tournaments will run, and how much space you need.

I'm assuming you want to just run a Brawl Singles and Doubles program.
You really need a block of about 8 hours or so to do that. (Give or take depending on the amount of TV's you have compared to the amount of Players you have).

As for entry fee, you want to charge a set amount (Usually people split this cost between the events, so say $10 for singles and $5 for doubles for example), and you'll also need some kind of extra 'Registration fee' which is the money you'll take to pay for hiring the venue.

In a lot of cases, that rego fee won't cover the cost of the venue, which is why you'll have to take money from the other entry fees to help pay for it. The money you have left over is for the event 'Pot'. This Pot is the money players are vying for.

This money should be split between the winners on a 60%/30%/10% basis (Or something similar). I'm not sure if anybody actually takes money for themselves for the purpose of profitting. Generally, tournament direction is a service, there are better ways to make money.

I hope that helps.

1) i don't know, im hoping for at least 12 or more.

2) im gonna try my local library, b/c they have a good sized room that they use for video game free play.

3) i don't think im gonna do doubles, just singles.

also should i do 3 stock, 7 min, best of 3?

thanks for the advice.

if brawl yes, also tips would be advertise around school. umm winners should be 3/5 i do semi+ are 3/5 but that's just me.

since you only are doing singles you should allow time for warm up. (doubles normally come first for this reason).

make a show up time and then put the time it starts so say it starts at 4 pm then say warm up 3:30-4 pm.

make sure everyone knows the rules before they play, i think its best to print off at least 1 sheet for rules for people who don't know to read as well the maps that are and aren't banned.

you should also include on the flier what the prize is or if there is any.

you also need to find out if you have enough tv's and games for people cus 1 tv and one wii can take awhile for singles if you seeing 12 people coming. Plus 90% of tournaments are double elimination things could be dragged out.

i prefer prize money to be 55/30/15 since 3rd normally doesn't get there money back if small turn out.

Also if you want you can make an early sign up with discount or no venue fee for those people (since its small i would do $1 lol).

be calm enjoy it, i've had to help host a tournament with over 200 people (not smash, forensics [acting] school stuff). if you host a smooth tournament people may want another one :)

Edits- If you want you can take as much as the pot as you want but some people look down on it, but i say 10% if you really must or want so say $5-10 from the pot then rest to winners.

-Also you can have a limit on how many people can play since you can print off a double elimination tournament off the web and since you are thinking 12 people i would print off a 16 slot bracket.

-time frame is really random but my bi-weeklies take anywhere from 1-3 hours for singles in brawl (but we have 3+ wii's going to go by faster)

-also ask people once its over if they would want another one in say few weeks (2-4 weeks) and also say maybe you can add doubles if you can get some wii's people could bring.

-o a big thing is BYOC or bring your own controller. many people will break ur stuff randomly.

-never had this problem but, people not playing when its their turn, give them a loss stock or something if they show up 5-10m late unless they tell you before that they are going to be gone for few mins and to skip their match for next round.

-wow alot of edits hmm what else.....edit if more

You should probably work on basic grammar and sentence structure skills first, I think.
