It kills my brain to think the Echo fighters are considered more special and unique than three of the most iconic Pokemon of all time.

I thought what if it was a three pack with each of the three Pokemon getting its own figure, but there is a slot to put on Trainer figure on the stand of the players' choice.

Personally would like Ivyaur, Squirtle, and male and female Pokémon Trainer to all get their own amiibo but that would also kill my wallet at the same time.

I don’t think they will spread themselves too thin on this the more I think about it.

Likely if I think of it from a cost perspective I think the trainers will be the figurines with Charizard still working as an additional.

Could be wrong on that but it would be my guess over one for each Pokémon and make and female trainer, that’s a lot for one character and could be seen as a niche product. Best would be the all in ones imo like the pikmin amiibo from before.

Keeping in mind though, that they're pokemon characters. Pokemon is not a niche thing. If it was somethng like the Wolf amiibo, sure, but it'll probably sell just as well to pokemon fans than smash fans.

I'm sure Nintendo can think of uses for Squirtle and Ivysaur amiibo outside of Smash Bros.

I imagine NFC-wise, each will act exactly the same, including Charizard.

Maybe Red allows you to swap while the others dont. Can Charizard's amiibo swap during battle? If so, can you disable/train amiibo to not use certain moves?

I have a Charizard amiibo I actively use, and, yes, the Figure Player will switch Pokémon. I should have them fight alongside a CPU Pokémon trainer to see if the Figure Player switches more or less often...
