Since this was in todays update, I’d thought I’d mention this here, so those concerned about spoilers can at least know of this. Asside from the Special Moves of the new character, we learned today, straight from Sakurai that one atribute of Giga Bowser is going to be shared amongst some of Brawls Heavyweights.

<img src="http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/mariopedia/trophy/giga_bowser.jpg" alt="He still looks bad-ass" />
<!--more-->

In Melee, Giga Bowser had 3 things that made him much more dangerous than Bowser.
1. He was bigger, so he had an increased range of many attacks (Even though a few attacks then were high enough to go over the heads of some characters)
2. He couldn’t be grabbed. Have at you Sheik! This also included immunity from Captain Falcon and Gannondorf’s Up-B attacks and Kirby’s Inhale attack.
3. He was able to resist a large number of attacks. Only really strong hits made him flinch. All others he’s just ignore and hit you.

Pretty obvious which one is going to be joining the heavy weights. However, while with Gigabowser, he had this all the time, it seems that only some attacks are going to be granting this effect. I’ll quote Sakurai (with spoilers removed) so you know what we’re getting this from. And the dashes aren’t replacing the letters, so don’t read too much into the number I’ve used per spoiler.

<blockquote>Of special importance is the fact that —- is resistant to attacks for a moment right after —–. —–’s not flinching?!
—-’s not really invincible— —- still takes damage. But —- won’t flinch in the slightest.
This time, there are several moves like this among the heavy characters, so watch out!
</blockquote>

So heavy weights now have something to counter the faster characters. Bowser might finally crawl out from the bottom of the pile now. Here’s hoping Cao, Gimp ;)

Down with Fox I say.

Though I got to say, If Bowser still is slow then he still won’t be that intimidating. Maybe as intimidating as a turtle but…….

Super armor, yes. I hope kirby becomes invinciple while doing his up B/ right B

Well it’s hard to hit Kirby in the process of his Up-B anyway.

Hmm, heavy hitters able to take a licking? Sounds like they’re ready to get somebody’s grill.

maybe they will have less time that they’re invincible though that way its more fair for the little guy

Basically the idea is that CHARACTER’s Up+B move is a long animation and a heavy hitter, so in order to ensure that CHARACTER actually pulls off the move, CHARACTER is invinceable while they do it.

So most likely while Captain Falcon is pulling back for a Falcon Punch, you’ll still have time to fireball him for damage or run away, but you won’t be able to just slap him to end the attack.

Now we can final actually use the move in combat.

super armor falcon punch sounds absolutely amazing. I also thought that the falcon punch should strip away the enemies jumps. Think about it. The move isn’t as strong or versatile as his knee (forward-air), so there has to be another incentive to use it.

But Kirby’s UpB isn’t hard to hit at all. And what’s worse… if Kirby is hit he loses all of his jumps. How LAME!

KirbyKid: It’s not fair to say it like that. ANY character who is hit out of their upB while recovering automatically loses any un-used jumps. Also, characters who use an upB move while on the ground, like Samus, Mario and Marth, also lose their midair jump if they are hit while airborn. There is nothing unfair at all about Kirby losing his jumps.

Oh, and heavy armor FP FTW!

Smashman: Why where you intimidated? Fox is too strong, I just want the game to be more equal.

Rhyme: With kirby’s ^ B, he’s vulnerable from the backside and bottom. Try knocking a character like Pikachu, Mewtwo, Zelda or Shiek down when they use their ^ B, it’s harder because they vanish. Fox and falco have magical fire to protect their ^ B and Mario, Luigi, Marth and Roy attack upward with their ^ B and are fast about it making it difficult to attack. Even it is not. Characters like kirby and Captain falcon are really vulberable with their ^B.

Hmm my bad, I do use falco real often so……….I just assumed. Thanks Mic, still it doesn’t bypass the point I was trying to bring up.

Animal: It should be big and with smash only rippling to us each day, we have to take we get. It’s better than saying, yep that’s a move.

Fighting the heaviest characters now requires skill. All of the heaviest characters [minus G’dorf] were low/mid-low tier or lower. This could definitely even out the tiers….GOOD JOB SAKURAI! :)

I like even tiers, it actually gives people like me a chance to win.
