Video Game Allstars (You Pick the Roster)

Jan 27, 2010
Congratulations you have just became the new chief game director to the new platform fighting game Video Game Allstars (Title Pending). This fighting game is going to pit the best and most iconic video game characters throughout history. This will be launch on all home consoles and even PC and no video game character is off limits. Your job is to decided who is going to be apart in this glorious battle of legends.

The Rules are as followed,

1. Roster limit to no more than 70 characters. You don't have to meet the limit if you don't want to but try not to go over it.

2. Only characters that have originated in a video game system or is a peripheral of video games (i.e. ROB). No character like Scrooge McDuck, Spider Man, Mike Tyson, Captain N (I know I know), etc.

3. You are given access to all gaming characters of all franchises. Nintendo, Rare, Square Enix, Atari, etc... Don't worry about things like Nintendo would never want Mario on a non-Nintendo system and such. Don't worry about Royalties and money stuff either.

Extra Credit,
If you want to add extra features like a different game title, new mechanics, items, etc feel free but the goal is mainly form the roster.

Ooh, this sounds like fun! So because of the theme, I'm going to focus more on getting as many series being represented as possible, rather than having multiple fighters from the same series be included. Here's my list, starting with the series covered in Smash, since I think many (but not all) of the series in Smash deserve to be in a video game all star game as well.

Mario - Mario Bros.
Link - Legend of Zelda
Donkey Kong - Donkey Kong Country
Samus - Metroid
Kirby - Kirby
Fox - Star Fox
Pikachu - Pokemon
Ness - Mother
Captain Falcon - F-Zero
Marth - Fire Emblem
Mr. Game & Watch - Game & Watch
Solid Snake - Metal Gear
Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog
Olimar - Pikmin
Villager - Animal Crossing
Mega Man - Mega Man
Little Mac - Punch Out!!
Miis - Mii
Pacman - Pacman
Shulk - Xenoblade
Ryu - Street Fighter
Cloud - Final Fantasy
Bayonetta - Bayonetta
Inkling - Splatoon
Simon Belmont - Castlevania

And now for the new stuff (A mix of my own tastes, and how popular/important the series is to gaming in general)

Crash Bandicoot - Crash Bandicoot
Spyro - Spyro the Dragon
Rayman - Rayman
Shantae - Shantae
Bomberman - Bomberman
Shovel Knight - Shovel Knight
Banjo and Kazooie - Banjo Kazooie
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
Erdrick - Dragon Quest
Master Chief - Halo
Big Daddy - Bioshock
Kratos - God of War
Marcus Fenix - Gears of War
Trevor Philips - Grand Theft Auto

The game would simply be called Arena. It's gameplay could best be described as "Smash+Tekken hybrid but with Health bars and in 3D." Both players choose from one of 60 characters from various points in the history of video games, then battle it out in one of 40 iconic arenas.

It wouldn't specifically be this song (unicron is sadly not in the theoretical game roster), but it'd be the same genre and tone.

These can be remapped to suit the player's wishes.
  • Movement: Left stick
  • Crouch: L3/LS
    • Can be set to toggle or hold
  • Camera: Right stick
    • Useful for keeping stage hazards in check
  • Reset Camera: R3/RS
    • Makes the Camera go back to focusing on your opponent
  • Jab Attacks: Bumpers
  • Cleave Attacks: Triggers
  • Jump: A (Switch)/A (XB1)/Cross (PS4)
    • Some characters have special jump gimmicks, such as Peach and Sonic.
  • Guard: B (Switch)/B (XB1)/Circle (PS4)
    • Using the left stick when guarding allows you to Dodge Roll
  • Special: Y (Switch)/X (XB1)/Square (PS4)
    • These function about the same as they do in Smash
  • Grab: X (Switch)/Y (XB1)/Triangle (PS4)
    • Some character's grabs work like Smash. Others like Tekken
  • Taunts: D-Pad

Well you know how Tekken has a heckton of combos from just four buttons?

Same principle here, only it's the shoulder buttons and now you have a bunch of other buttons to work with.

For example, Heihachi's Flash Punch Combo would be LB -> LB -> RB.

  1. Pac-Man
  2. Alien (Space Invaders)
  3. Centipede
  4. Pitfall Harry
  5. E.T.

Original Stages
  • Wireframe Field*- Training Stage [can be customized by player to have Ring-Outs or other stage hazards]
  • Shadowmancer Recreational Resort- Beach Stage. We gotta put the equal-oppurtunity-fanservice background characters in there somewhere ;)
  • Aphrodite's Botanical Laboratory*- Jungle stage [Killer Plants]
  • Prometheus' Robotics Foundry*- Factory stage [Assembly Line Hazards]
  • Fellfather's Bloodstained Cathedral*- Church stage [The Priests and Paladins in the background will attack the players]
  • Mutated Basement- Dark, Claustrophobic and it looks as though H.R. Giger had his way with the place.
  • Alpha Colliseum- Game's equivalent to Battlefield
  • Omega Mirror- Game's equivalent to Final Destination
  • Player Created Stages*- Self-explanatory

In Arcade Mode, you fight through 7 stages that illustrate little "rivalries" with other games. For example, a Mario route would have you go up against E.T., Link, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Cloud Strife, Master Chief, and then Not Important in that order, whereas Mega Man might battle characters like Simon Belmont, Leon S. Kennedy and Mighty #9 instead. You then have 3 boss stages. The first is a double team against Mecha Hitler and Ghirahim on Castle Wolfenstein (the two tag out between eachother and have seperate health bars, so you don't have to worry about being ganged up on). The second boss is against Ridley inside either the Mutated Basement or an alternate version of Fellfather's Bloodstained Cathedral that doesn't have stage hazards. The Arcade's Final Boss is a 2-round match on Omega Mirror; Round 1 is a Mirror Battle against your own character, and Round 2 is against a horrifying eldritch abomination that spawns from the corpse of your character's clone from Round 1.

You have 5 difficulties for Arcade Mode: Beginner, Casual, Veteran, Scholar and Champion. The Beginner Mode is designed for younger players, fighting game newcomers, or to determine your first impression of using a character outside training mode. Casual is intended for game reviewers and players who only occasionally play fighting games, or to play through the game as a character casually. Veteran is intended for players who have played fighting games for years, but don't nessisarily know the inns and outs of any particular fighting game. Scholar and Champion are designed to give the FGC a difficult time, with Champion being intended for folks who regularly get out of pools.

So you can customize your Mii's face, and Minecraft Steve's, but in addition to that, you can create your own character, Soulcalibur Style. There are 13 fighting styles to choose from, all of which are based off of the various Organization XIII members from Kingdom Hearts. As you play matches and arcade mode, you acquire a currency called confiscated contraband boxes which can be dismantled at an Industrial Redemption Line (it's basically a building filled with crying orcs and stormtroopers as a Splatoon Inkling walks around hitting them in the back of the head with a rolled-up newspaper) in exchange for the clothing you want to put on your custom character. This clothing doesn't alter stats, but it lets you make your custom characters look how you want them to.

Oh, and there's no way to buy the boxes with actual currency.

I'm really sleepy. I might add more later... or not... idk... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
