MORE WAVESHINE.

-The lack of shine after aerials was also pretty sad. You need to start waveshining to grabs and usmashes. You did only two in that match; more are needed. Your Fox in general looks a bit jerky. Try to be more fluid and plan your movements instead of being random. Use your shield more, and do aerials out of them in response to mis-spaced fsmashes/fairs/nairs.

-Don't always approach Marth from the front. You seemed to do alot of full-hopped nairs or SH nairs straight into him without a plan, or a shine afterwards. Try using the platforms to get behind him and start attacking. Jump over and land on platform, then drop down and bair and pour on the pressure so you force him into shield. From there its fairly easy to get a grab and whanot.

-Sometimes you get a bit too greedy with your combos. You go after uairs or nairs that would kill you if your opponent knew how to punish/edge-guard you well. If you find yourself having to chase your opponent off the stage to continue a combo, DON'T. Play it safe/smart, and just edge-guard.

-Use the firefox sweetspot thing. Its good and broken and you didn't use it. :D

-Try to teach yourself to not spam sidestep. It gets really predictable. Try substituting sidestep for:

Rolls
Shield -> WD back out of shield and reset your approach
Disaster Hop (Block and jump out of shield and escape to platform or something)

Hmm...and one more thing. Rolling toward Marth is really, really good. I started doing this recently:

Block, roll really close to Marth = high chance of Marth blindspot'ing'

You know how sometimes when you get really close to Marth his fsmash/grab will miss? Sometimes trying to force that is good. If he doesn't do anything you're right beside him so free shine. Pray to god he doesn't read you for it though.

Wow thanks for the big response. That was really helpful. Couple of questions, though. Where weren't the shines after aerials? He didn't really shield my air so a lot of the time he was getting knocked back out of range of the shine. I don't count many (if any) spots I should have shined after air. There are a couple of spots where I get grabs instead but isn't it better to get a grab than to waveshine marth onto the edge or off a platform? I am def trying to get up smashes in after the waveshines now but its coming slowly as I've just really recently gotten my waveshine fast enough to get the up smash off on marth.

But yea, too much sidestep and too greedy I agree.

Alright, so granted...the guy your facing isn't exactly amazing. He doesn't CC your nairs or even block your moves for that matter. So every time you nair it knocks him away, like you said. Because you don't dair him either, it makes it hard to find opportunities to shine. In general, after you land from things and you are clsoe to your opponent, I suggest you shine to clear space or start a combo.

@ 1:17, you shot a laser and mis-spaced and landed in front of him. SHL auto-cancels and has zero lag, so you could have shined and either hit him or clinked with his dash attack. I mean, thats a pretty specific example, but doing shine on reflex is sometimes really good.

You need to play people that block, or just use drill more. You need to get into the habit of doing an aerial->waveshine->grab or usmash. But this guy falls for everything, lol.

I remember you saying you like dair approach better than nair in another thread. I need to work on that a lot, I'm just realizing that I suck at dairing in general. Miss the cancel vs shields sometimes, particularly coming up off the edge. Gotta practice. My boy really hasn't been playing long at all, unfortunately I don't have vids up against a better player tho.

Good point about dair. I forgot to mention that its tricky to lcancel it after you hit your opponent's shield. Once you get it down you get so many free combos. Almost everyone tries to grab you after they block your dair. They all expect you to miss your lcancel and get a grab. Practice and prove em' wrong.
