Hi, my name is Syrek and I started using Homebrew about a month or so ago. Since then I have been happily enjoying such games like Super Smash Bros and TMNT: Turtles in Time. However, just recently the Wii update version 4.0 was released and I wanted to put all my VC and Wiiware games on the SD card including the ones I downloaded. The hacked VC content did not work so I deleted them and bought alot of Wii Points to actually physically purchase the games. However when upon downloading them from the Wii Shop Channel, I concured an error code as soon as the Wii stole the points that were needed to download said game and instead of downloading came up with error code 204036. Upon this, I thought it was an internet problem. Apparently it was not for I bought Super Punch-out!! with no problems since it was not a hacked game. Now I cannot purchase the VC games that I hacked nor hack them once more as I deleted my Homebrew Channel before I had the knowledge of this occurance. Now all these great games cannot be bought and I lost a good 5500 points on games that I cannot aquire. Any thoughts. Sorry for the long details but I need to find a way to download these games since I paid good money. Any suggestions? Thanks and I look forward to posting here often.

I think you might get better help in the Workshop forum, since that's more geared towards Homebrew issues, but I'll try to help.

Might be a stupid question but have you tried going back to the Wii Shop to try and download the games again? If I recall correctly, buying the game once means you don't need to buy it again and you can delete it and redownload it for free. I'm hoping the same is true if you get an error when you try to download it the first time.

I'm not sure, but I believe that the Wii updates are created specifically to break homebrew channel (among other things). You probably need to do the homebrew hack that undoes the Wii update 4.0 (when/if it comes out).

Then i may have to wait a while. I'm just want to purchase the downloads the legal way but apparently Nintendo isn't going to let that happen. I have tried downloading the games multiple times and still no luck. There must be some way to fix this or revese the process. Maybe if I bought additional Wii Points and then used another Wii console by giving the VC games as a gift towards me. Would it work?

I don't know. I've heard that you can either have hombrew or you can have wii updates, but not both. I've also heard of a hack to undo the wii channel updates, but Wii 4.0 only came out less than a week ago, so there probably isn't a hack yet. I don't actually use homebrew myself though.

It might not be the update itself unfortunately. I believe the Wii detects the hacked games or the residue of the hacked games and when I try to actually download legally these VC games its saying "Too bad" as punishment I suppose. It's just a theory of course but I wish there was some way to bypass that error code. I truely hope that its just 4.0 and not the leftovers from those hacked games that I could have purchased from the Shop Channel.

The funny thing about hacks is that even if that was true, there's probably a way you can get around it.

I've gotten a few more suggestions from other boards such as formating my Wii to delete any excess file that may be on the Wii preventing me from downloading said games. However a couple problems come to mind. SSBB save file cannot be copied to my SD card and is basically the only reason thats holding me back from formating my Wii. I've thought of downloading the games from another Wii console to my SD card and then playing them on Wii since I can now download VC games to my SD card so I wonder if it will work. I might try it this week but I would like to know if this would actually work.

My Super Smash Bros. Brawl data takes over a hundred blocks. I tried deleting almost all my suctom stage, snapshot, and video data, but even with hundreds less custom data, it still reuires over a hundred blocks of memory.

Any suugestions short of deleting my Brawl data?

If you don't have enough memory on your Wii System then bring some of your Virtual Console and Wiiware games over to the SD Card Menu. I wish there was a way to transfer SSBB data to the SD card. I mean I understand why Nintendo doesn't allow it but still, many other games allow you to transfer memory and I find it complete laziness in their part for not taking a bit of time to do this. I mean what happens when the system takes a nose dive or someone accidently erases the memory or something, what then? This whole incident of not allowing me to download games that I onced hacked and now am purchasing with my own money is really starting to bug me and make me dislike Nintendos methods. I mean I could use the Homebrew Channel to copy the saves or something but I deleted it because I didn't want anything to do with it anymore. Looks like my sins have come full circle. I plead to anyone who can figure this out for me. I'm too nervous to do something I shouldn't especially since I may lose valuable data for my games.

It won't work.

When you download a vc game, it installs a 'ticket' with the game. With that ticket, you can only play on THAT wii with it. This keeps people from sharing games, etc, etc.

When you installed those wii games with homebrew, it installed a ticket as well. However, it sounds like the wii shop channel doesn't recognize the ticket, so you can't redownload it like you would if you had deleted a purchased game.

You might want to try the unintaller thing for homebrew. It completely removes all traces of the game.

edit: and don't uninstall the homebrew channel unless the next update is a bricker. Better yet, just keep checking up on wiibrew or something BEFORE you do updates to see what is killed.
