Useless Mechanics

Come up with a useless/stupid/unnecessary (etc) mechanic/feature for Smash.
Here's mine:
Starting up Smash 4 for the first time will load an all-random selection of characters/stages with all items on and a game time of one minute. After the time runs out, the game immediately crashes and the disc/cartridge melts in your Wii U/3DS like a Listerine strip.

When your characters is swimming, you might randomly get a leg cramp. This will result in an instant KO. Some characters, like charizard or sonic, for example are more likely to get a leg cramp while some, like wii fit trainer or squirtle are less likely to get one.

Your character will slow down and sometimes pass out depending on how much you are moving and running. Fat characters like Bowser have a higher chance of this happening while fit characters like Wii Fit Trainer barely have it happen at all.

It's actually a useful mechanic with a uselessly twitchy and infuriating input method.
I'd beg to differ. It couldn't be any simpler, unlike some games.

You can only play Smash 4 by wearing an obnoxiously large helmet, akin to Doc Brown's helmet in Back to the Future Part 1. The helmet uses the Wii U's motion controls, while the 3DS version relies on a gyroscope feature.

You have a super meter for final smashes that builds over total percentage of damage dealt/received, and final smashes are activated by pressing A and B at the same time rather than sacrificing a neutral B.

Your final smash is Jigglypuffs.

As you eat food on the floor your character gets fatter and fatter until they can hardly move and slowly die of heart failure.

Items are by default on and you can only turn them off after unlocking extra options once you reach 500 vs matches.

As a special advanced maneuver, if you perform a jump then press left-right-left on the control stick in rapid succession followed up with an air dodge, you will pull off a second jump in mid air!

Useless? This adds depth to the game and adds the chance of mindgames! What if you don't double-jump, you can totally use that as a mindgame! It also enhances skill and would totally be awesome, I mean, there's obviously a lot of fighting game players who'd love this because having to do a stupid command to do a simple move automatically makes you better than other people...right? ...right? It's not like the actual skill relies on reading, combos and knowledge of the CORE game mechanics, right...? It's obviously better this way because you can feel good about the fact that you turned a bull****, painful-to-do command to muscle memory after months of suffering and that's totally good and tons of fun!

I mean, I'm not saying the game has to be fun to keep the player interested, that's preposterous! It's much better to struggle with the controls on Training Mode! It also gives you the right to call anyone who doesn't agree with you a 'casual'!

Do you honestly think you can convince Melee fans that Wavedashing is too hard? Out of place perhaps... But how hard something is, is subjective.

Air dodging toward the ground causes your character to slide unnaturally across the floor.

EDIT: Nvm, see mod.

In all seriousness, tripping is it, and it won't be back...ever.

How about ladders guys
Well, I always thought ladders were cool :v
No airdodging.
Not being able to grab the ledge facing the wrong way.
Tether recoveries.
This thread is soooo going to get locked.
I really hope you're being sarcastic, because if any ledge mechanic needs to come back from Brawl, it's grabbing the ledge facing backwards.
And, what's wrong with tether recoveries? Samus gets much more recovery options with her's, and so does Toon Link.

As in, not being able to grab it facing backwards is stupid, like how in 64 you can't airdodge and Brawl's tethers being Brawl's tethers.

And Ivysuar and Olimar hate their ^Bs...

At $30, players can buy a Smash 4 bundle that features both a Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. The bundle games feature broken bootleg gameplay mechanics ripped from SNES-era Killer Instinct as well as bootleg versions of the game's licensed characters, with all of the game's text having been translated from Vietnamese.
