I believe that I have unreasonable expectations for Brawl that Nintendo simply will not be able to fulfill.
See this? This is me playing "My Heart Bleeds for You" on the world's smallest violin.
By the looks of the trailer footage, I think that wavedashing was replaced with "advanced rolling" or some other fixed maneuver.
Here's my take on wavedashing:
1) Wavedashing was not intentionally programed into Melee by the Smash. It is a glitch that was discovered by the players after its release.
2) However, that is irrelivant. Wavedashing is a legitament tactic becuase it can be pulled off without altering the game in anyway. Although I'm not very good at it, I respect players who are skilled enough to master the art of the wavedash.
3) Wavedashing may or may not be possible in Brawl. It all depends how drastically they alter the Melee engine for Brawl and whether or not Sakurai and team intentionally remove wavedashing.
4) However, this too is irrelivant. If wavedashing is removed for Brawl, skilled players will find new "hidden" techniques to give them an edge in competitive play.
5)Regardless, the sun will still rise in the morning, pie will still taste good and Smash Bros will still be the most insanely fun multiplayer experience around.
The fact that there are items at all is a dissappointment to all competetive players.
Well, I'm a competitve player. I go to Melee tourneys and everything. And know what? I love items! If I had my way, I'd play with them all the time - but unfortunately most Smashers have forgotten what fun is, and insist on playing without them.
The new items in Brawl look to be insanely fun, and will make for a far more enjoyable game. All you item-haters can turn them off if you feel so inclined.
Nintendo can't afford to grant all of the competitive players wishes, not while there's a market for new gamers.
Wrong again. From the looks of it, Brawl will follow in the footsteps on SSB64 and Melee in that it will be accessible to casual gamers and also appease the competitive crowd.
The four controller types is an example. Hardcore Smashers can use the Gamecube and classic controllers (as the good Lord intended) while less experienced players can use the Wii controller. Everyone wins - except for snobs with unreasonable expectations.
My best hope is to wait for the modding community to catch up to Melee. Then we will all be able to tweak the hell out of that engine to create our own characters and scenarios.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Unlike you, I strongly believe that Sakurai will make Brawl the greatest Smash Bros yet.
I sincerely hope that you stubbornly refuse to play Brawl on principle, becuase you aren't worthy of experiencing what will surely be the greatest game of all time.
