The TVs and everything is free after the $10 registration fee.

Is it really that much work to walk "all the way" over to Burdine ... I mean really... it isn't that far from Jester. I mean if you all want to keep doing your Jester thing - fine but I like big screen and will be testing out Burdine, while making the Smash Club.

To answer you question, yes, it really is a lot of work to walk out to Burdine. It's a LOT more work to get TVs out there. You mentioned renting carts etc. to wheel them over as though there is a yellow-brick road leading from point X to Burdine. Burdine happens to be surrounded by many other buildings, and only faces the street on the Dean Keaton side, where there is currently a ton of construction.

And as I mentioned before, I don't think the actual setup opportunities in Burdine are so great. In an auditorium like that, you could really only play on the stage, and then you need tables, and then the building might close etc. JWest is great because it's a public area that is close to everything, namely the twins, who have 2 setups and Sai who will be holding onto my stuff, and because it never closes.

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All this **** is ********... Y'all should listen to Neogeek23... by the way, the only question I have is can I get in if I am not a student of UT? I'm totally there if I can get in with no problems. And is this going down tonight? (if so what's the timeframe?, and if I can get in should I bring anything? extra GC, SSB disc, memory card? I won't ask about my controllers because I don't have any wavebirds and all my controllers are pretty ****ed up anyway)

It is friday!!!
Let me know, I know several friends that would be totally into this...
my aim is Sparr0whawk (that's a zero in sparrowhawk) or e-mail me or whatever... thx!

Sadly no you can't be in the club with out being in UT... but I don't know what would stop you from crashing the club... but there is definitely no way you could join it as I signed a paper saying I wouldn't let anyone outside UT join. How old are you?

Why couldn't we roll the TVs (which are on carts that we'd only have to roll across the street from the SSB) on to the area that is split between the two seating sections? That would be a good place for TVs and then have Wavebirds and such for the big screen or... cable extensions... it really isn't that hard. If you all want to keep doing your Jester stuff w/e. There is no reason that I shouldn't do this in Burdine. The only thing I'm confused about how on earth you all just don't want to move (for smash) even if you could have both... but w/e. The only problem I see with this club is the number of cubes/wiis. I think I could get two out of the three members I already have. I have one wii and if I was a jerk I could take the cube I left my little sister to train on. I have one guy who'd probably bring his cube. But I only have access to two systems right now... and they'd have to come from members.

There is a smashfest of sorts in Jester West Basement tonight but it isn't associated with the club that I'm starting. Is anyone here interested in checking out the club I'm starting because if not I'm just going to stop bothering you all.

lol, you UT people are funny.
I think I am going to start my own tourneys at somebody's house... somewhere. Or maybe a LAN center or something.

Sorry, Neogeek, but we already have a good meeting place that we've been happy with for over 2 years now. It may not be inconvenient for you, but it is for the rest of us, so we aren't going to change it. Thanks for the effort you're putting into this. We may stop by at some point to check it out, but don't expect any of us to join the club...

I went to the meeting place... and... it kinda sucked because I couldn't get in on a game... I probably would have had to wait at least an hour or longer. I would definitely join neogeek's club if it's easier to join for newcomers.

If you were one of the people who stood around and just looked at us, then let me educate you a bit on how you get in on some matches in a competitive environment: walk up, and ask to get the next match. And that's it. I know I had to tell one person in particular a couple of times to just sit down somewhere and play, and from what I could tell, he *still* just stood around and finally walked away. I have no sympathy for that sort of thing. Don't expect people to just volunteer to get out of your way.

Wish I knew about this last year. Are yall playing today? I haven't been to jester in awhile, it will be nice to visit.

*edit*

it was a good time getting owned, learning and such. I was the kind of drunk guy who showed up with no controllers and played peach around 430. I then ran back to my house and got a controller and returned with some people. (much more sober as well).
I still got pwned though. great games by all. yarrr.

Grand Smashing at UT Austin in Welch

Alright, I know many of you said you weren't interested but I thought I'd let you all know about it anyways. :lick:

I have gone through the trouble of starting a Smash Club at UT. We will be having our first general meeting 11/17/07 4:30pm to midnight in Welch 3.502. This will most likely be our only projector meeting or whatever this semester for members and non-members. The only people that can come (sadly) are UT students. We will have five consoles (2 wiis, 2 cubes, 1 n64), two projectors, two TV (maybe three) and probably not enough controllers or melee disks (1-2 short) - so bring yours please. Since we are the smash club we will also have old school smash if anyone feels the need to play reminisce or whatever. We will discuss the functions and so forth of the club around 6pm and again at 8pm. Tell all of your UT friends and bring whoever you like. This will be for both casual players and serious/hardcore players too. Oh yea, we will be directly recording any important 1v1s.

PLEASE EMAIL HERE: ut.smash.club@gmail.com

man that sucks didn't see it on the calendar... well I don't know if we'll want to move it, but we'll see - may just have another, if we do move it ... we'll move it back a day and have it 16-17.

I'll post about regular meetings when we get that room arrangement passed. We haven't decided but I think we may charge like $5 a year for membership to pay for the room reservations on campus.

Does this smash fest still exist? And can you get into jester west without being a student? That question wasn't really answered.

This weekend is the big SOS tournament down in SA. I'm pretty sure a few of us are going to be there, Sunday being singles finals and teams and crews and such.

Also:
Bumping for Spring Semester.
I hope to see all you guys this-coming 18th!

The official Texas Smash club is getting Brawl early. We will be setup on 2/15 (hopefully with e/1 unlocked) on the West Mall Rally Area by 11am for a public viewing. I hope to see some of you there.

We intend for all that stop by to be able to play, I don't see a serious reason (though there is a slim chance) why we wouldn't be able to let everyone play on the 15th, we intend on being out there on the 22nd too.

By "getting Brawl early" do you mean importing and playing on a modded Wii? Edit: I ask this because technically importing and Wii mods are illegal, and last I heard, you guys were looking for a semi-serious affiliation of some kind with Nintendo. It doesn't seem to me to be the kind of thing they're likely to endorse.

Might be worth stopping by. I'll try to remember to consider it, but that's a long time away and I don't expect to enjoy the game much anyway.

yea we will have a modded set with a J a p release ... illegal? I don't think it does anything more that void my warranty ... if Nintendo gets pissed off at us then well ... I'll graduate soon and I'll tell them it is their fault for delaying it after we made plans on their ... 4th (?) release date and couldn't change them nor could we not have brawl for it. I hope you do stop by I'd be surprised if the game is a complete waste ... I'm sure you could find something enjoyable about it. It could be illegal (and I not know it) but the wheels are already in motion and it is too late to stop them ... so oh well.

Edit: I guess J a p is a bad word?
