The distinctive styles in a nut shell:

Jungle = rolling breaks like the Amen
Hardstep = pretty much everything that came out of True Playaz (DJ Zinc, Dope Skillz, Pascal, Hype) during the early to mid-nineties
Liquid funk = calmer moods and ambient samples, often with big basslines
Intelligent dnb = very calm, ambient drum and bass; easy listening
Neurofunk = heavy breaks, cold atmosphere and synth stabs
Techstep = Influenced by techno, it's another cold style pioneered by Ed Ruch & Optical and Trace
Darkstep = Long, ominous ambient pads that lead to violent, erratic breakbeats like the Amen. Check out 'Timeline' Evol Intent
Breakcore = it's sort of a genre in its own right, the breakbeats are very fast and complex.

Clownstep styles:
Jazzstep = jazz with an 175bpm breakbeat. Double bass samples are usually used. Check out 'Tough At The Top' by E-Z Rollers
Sambass = 'Brazilian dnb'; Latin-American influenced
Trancestep = I have nooooo idea. From what i've heard, it's eurotrash, dnb and trance rolled into one
Raggacore = somewhere between ragga jungle and breakcore
Darkcore = similar to darkstep but with more horror movie samples
Techno dnb = jungle with an 808 drum machine. Check out 'Vessel' by Universal Project
Ragga jungle = Jamaican sample or vocals and more reggae influenced

As for the music today, I have to say that I think the following are some of the biggest leaders, and I recommend any and all of them. Though, a few of these I think are not DnB, and just electronic.

I'm kinda a techno noob as well, so this looks like a good place to find some artists. The only artists I've heard are the ones on Newgrounds. Lol.

I haven't really managed to enjoy any techno yet, but I like some ambient electronic music such as Global Communication and Aphex Twin, as well as Krautrock bands like Tangerine Dream... Repetition bores me easily though. :c

Hi. I'll introduce myself to this thread right quick. :)

basically Im practically obsessed with dnb lol (liquid & Neuro mostly. or anything that sounds funky. i mean really how could u not like liquid after listening to **** like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7cZXDrydpM )
some artists im feelin ATM include:

logistics
apex
Break
mutt
redeyes
alix perez
sabre
lynx
calibre
brooks brothers
spectrasoul (organiyza!)
mistabishi
lenzman
instra:mental

I listen to dubstep too but the only artists ive been feelin lately are Nero, and Caspa.

I usually dnt like the Jump-up clown style ish, or the super evil, dark stuff. it just gets mad boring after a while, unless its some original grooves or something like that.

I donno tho I think dnb is a lot different from other electronic genres like Techno, trance, house, etc. I like how most trance is based a lot on suspense, even moreso than dnb.

if anyone needs recommendations for good dnb hit me up though lol.

infected mushroom are sick, such a raw sound from the other genre in my opinion,i would classify this to be in electronic genre psychedelic trance (psythtrance)
seen them live and what a show honestly can say it was an experience i would never forget :chuckle:

Despite being French, and even leading the French House scene, Daft Punk is actually not French House style xD Its ironic, but the truth. Daft Punk is just House.

Little known fact, on their most listened to album Discovery only has 3 samples. The rest of the sounds are all recreated by them creating the sounds through synth. Believe me, that's some hard ****.

Just throwin stuff out there, since Infected Mushroom has some varied stuff, some noisey, some more traditional stuff with vocals. Maybe if you show me your favorite stuff by them I could help more. Is any of this stuff close to what you are looking for?

Teeth Mountain- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H76CB5m3Log
Venetian Snare's Horsey Noises- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIdWaFQ5ciY
Squarepusher- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnZVY7ksMr0
I appreciate giving me suggestions i have been busy lately and haven't had the chance to respond. I will give them a listen when I have some free time. (im at school atm, some websites are blocked)

as for favorites and their variety, id have to say any of their stuff with vocals are really kick *** (artillery, special place, becoming insane BASICALLY anything from the vicious delicious album)
also songs where theyll have a repetetive sound, and slowly make it louder, add things to it until its at the point where its really intense and built up. those are great

How can you not like electro tektonik dancing?......you can only do so much shuffling especially with electro music the bpm isent fast enough for hardstyle. If i went to an event strictly shufflers (and i have) there are always people standing around cuz there too tired to shuffle any more.....
so the best thing i would do is some electro dance XD then switch off to differnt music......beside its not all that bad is fun and it depend on the style that that person has some people are too beast XD....hardstyle is godly but tektonic is beastly too!!!!
