I'd feel pretty normal, I guess. Most parents who actually care about their children usually want them to put education as a top priority over entertainment.

I'd laugh in her face then crack open a beer.
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Seriously though, Ankoku is right... they just care about you doing well in school and giving education a high priority.

F8AL also brings up a good point... if your parents don't let you play games at all on weekdays, maybe you can compromise with them and say that you'll only play games after you're done with all your homework.

No. Dont let kids play video games weekdays. They should be outside playing sports, getting girls (or boys, whatever tickles your pickle), and staying fit.

I was like 300lbs at one time, and when i was like 16 i was like "*** this" and lost 100+lbs in a year =P then broke my ankle twice! rofl.. so im at like 195, almost to my 6pack again!

Anywho, seriously, dont let your young years pass u by with video games, go out and make out! The video games will be better when your older anywho...

ALSO, u get into good 'study habits' which will be very beneficial for u in college... TRUST ME... my rents cared about my older bro, and hes got like a 3.8 gpa at the uni... and less so on me, so i was out gettin hammered and playing sports during HS and its bitin me in the *** now, lol..

That's not viable for everyone. Take me for example, the only guys that play sports here are idiots who fight when someone questions their judgment. I don't know about you but it would be pretty hard for me to get an education when I'm in prison [one of my friends went to jail for hitting a guy in the head with a big rock] or lying in a hospital bed with a big gash in my head [like the guy that got hit].

Also, I don't see how using time to try to get a girl [they don't even know what they want at this age] is going to help him study [which is the reason he can't play his PSP, which is the reason he made this thread]. If his mom won't even let him play his PSP I doubt she's gonna let him leave the house [where he can play the PSP, mind you] just so he can chat up a girl or play sports.

@ Teeman: Maybe you can convince your mom to let you play when you finish your homework. Try to do it before it gets late when primetime starts or whatever. The earlier the better.

I've been under that jurisdiction before. It is beneficial to your school grades, but I personally believe you should be allowed to play video games whenever you have no work to work on (but don't lie or put it off, it leads to too much stress). Infact, I've been wanting to get Mario Strikers for weeks, but I've had to keep putting it off because of school. I just rented it tonight, and I'm sort of glad I didn't buy it. It's one of the better made games on the wii I'll admit, but the excitement just seems to not be there. (don't know how to explain it)

Red Exodus: Remember, just cuz you play sports with them doesnt mean you have to become them. I mean, im intelligent, i played football and track and whatnot.. and theres lots like me out there, people just assume that to do sports you need to be dumb... eh.

Also, the female part, theres many girls that know what they want, and the ones that dont, it was fun while it lasted, no? lol.. Plus, make out skills are ones that will never go away and your wife someday will very much appreciate! =P
Its also learning the beginnings of interpersonal communications and how females work in general ;-) which is helpful in college when u just wanna get laid, rofl, or even in making something u like last longer, even through harsh times.

I do, however, understand what your saying. Some just enjoy not doing that stuff, but i would definitely support doing SOMETHING outside and physical, just cuz so many people (including myself; who WAS) are being fat and/or lazy nowdays. hum!

Hence why a DS is a nice choice of game system ;)

I stayed awake through college courses at times thanks to being able to use the touch screen to play and games the didn't require me to pay strict attention to what I was doing (i.e., Phoenix Wright, Animal Crossing, and so on.)

Thread starter I feel for you. I've had this rule implemented since the day I was born (or since the day I discovered the wonderful thing called the computer), and is still in motion. I can slip a minute or so just to check updates, but playing games fullscreen and using photoshop are always a pain :(

It sucks even more when you have nothing to do when you "go outside" :ohwell:

What? :D Wireless headset, a wrong to be 'Wrighted', a fish to catch, and I'm content. Just don't try it with Nintendogs... Professors get suspicious when you say, "Awww, cute lil' pooky dum-dums" in the middle of class....

No Internet?!?
Everyone has different relationships with their parents. Some people love them and think they're awesome, other people just want to get as far away from them as possible, and never want to see them again.

I believe everyone should have their own chance at relaxation. School and personal life should be kept separate. You go to school for 6 (and a half, it depends) hours a day, for 40 weeks a year.

By the age of 15, that adds up to about 10 years non-stop school, (Including those first 4 years of your life). Do your homework quickly after school, then say that the rest of the night is yours to choose, if you want to play video games, so be it.

Ay, and also try appealing to them with games like Brain Age and Big Brain Academy, or any games you may have that could be viewed as beneficial to your mental or physical state.

Then, once they go lenient, bust out Dead Rising after you've finished your calculus.

Arken, I guess I have an angel watching over me. I'm lazy too [did martial arts for about 3 years, and quit 2 years ago] but for some reason no matter how much junk I eat, how often I eat etc. I never gain weight. Ever ever ever ever ever. Ever.

I guess you're right about girls. Some are more mature than others, and girls can stress you out [depending on what kind of girl you have] but in the end it must be worth it, unless you get an STD or something =/

Arken I'm sorry but girls is NOT the solution. If you want good grades then worrying about the opposite sex is the absolute worst thing you can do. I would know I had like two years where that's all I cared about and did awful, then last year I did okay but I'm already slipping again. My grades have taken a huge hit.

Also I feel for you TC. My friend was only allotted an hour a day for a long time. I moved away and about the time he had hit 14 he finally just let himself do as he want and quit letting his family control that aspect. There's not much you can do. Sports are a great outlet though Arken is right about that.

If you play football then that should take up a lot of your time anyways plus only leaves you enough time to do your homework.

Last year I was a freshmen and i played a lot of smash and other online games causing me not to do all my homework some days which isn't always good when you take all honor classes, but this year I'm playing sports joined some clubs taking up all my time other than that 1-2 hours a day that I leave for homework. On Fridays I take a break and don't do any work once I get home then Saturday I finish my homework and that gives me another day of rest on Sunday which makes me ready for school on Monday keeping me very organized when I'm not the most organized person in the world. Getting to blow stuff up in Chemistry every couple of days doesn't hurt either.

Also, if your school has a space for it or if you can try playing smash during your lunch/free periods. That helps get a lot of stress out of your head.

That sucks. I've had that rule enforced on me since third grade. It helps with grades and all but when I have nothing to do, I really want to turn on my Wii/DS.

I've been limited not only from playing games on weekdays, but there was a cap of 2 hours per weekend as well. In addition, I can't use the computer for anything non-school related.

Luckily that's not the situation anymore. However, it happens, and what can you do? Parents impose such restrictions, hoping you would instead spend your energy and time in schoolwork or other activities. Video games have this reputation of being time-wasters, and they can be.

Unfortunately, I'm guessing most of the time this won't work out, because the kids will get angry, instead. You can try changing your mother's mind. This can be done by calmly reasoning it with her (arguing heatedly really doesn't help), and generally presenting yourself as a mature, responsible adult who knows enough to make sound decisions.

Of course, if that fails, you have some extra time on your hands. If your schoolwork isn't good, that should be number one. Take whatever time you need to properly deal with school, and worry about other stuff after dealing with schoolwork. And with your extra time, you might as well go out and get a job, read something interesting (trust me there is a lot of good stuff to read. unfortunately, high school fails to introduce students to it. you'll have to find them on your own), or pick up a hobby. For example, ever though that lockpicking and safecracking were really cool? Buy a couple books, a couple locks, and learn how to do it! That applies to programming/web design/electronic engineering/etc.
There's actually a lot of interesting little things a person can teach himself, but most ppl don't. :\.

Trust me, games during school is no good. In college, I can't relax unless I play some game then I get wrapped into it an ignore work on weekends. Thankfully I can control this during the week by not turning my gaming computer on and just leaving my PS3 off, but other than that, it's a struggle.

I gotta admit, I wonder how old the people whos parents are enforcing these rules are
cause if your young, it makes sence
they want you to get into good habits
if your in high school...
I don't see why, by now you should know, if not, you'll figure out a good routine, and your parents SHOULD see your good for it
unless your not doing good in school

but that is my opinion

Hehe. Some of my friends's parents does that. My parents don't...they are like lazy and spoiled me, my brother, and sister..I hate being spoiled but I can't help it. Education isn't a problem to recently. I'm in my Junior year of High school and the other 2 years were EASY. The classes I took were general and like hardly any HW and never STUDIED at all. Till now. One AP class is kicking my butt. Most of my friends are taking 4.

So yeah..I need to learn some study skills and stop playing video games constantly when I get home.

Btw there's nothing to do outside in this town unless you have a car and even that is boring because of the lame mall we got. Fun social things here are under age drinking(which I don't do seriously) and football games.(Sorry if this is off topic >_<!)
