Between The Big House 6 and Smash Summit 3, it's safe to say this autumn has been the season for Super Smash Bros. Melee doubles play. However, the excitement doesn't end there, as this weekend's UGC Smash Open (December 2-4) will feature a $5,000 pot bonus and a plethora of Melee's top teams. Here are the major storylines and viewing information for the UGC Smash Open's Melee doubles tournament.

Melee at the UGC Smash Open will be streamed on two channels: UGC as the main stream and MeleeEveryday as the secondary stream, on Saturday/Sunday only. The powerhouse commentator lineup at UGC includes Brandon “HomeMadeWaffles” Collier, Phil DeBerry, D'Ron “D1” Maingrette, Arian “The Crimson Blur” Fathieh, Michael “Webs” Weber and Josh “Fendrick Lamar” Fendrick.

The Teams
With their big win at The Big House 6, Kevin "PewPewU" Toy and Zac "SFAT" Cordoni of PewFat are arguably the frontrunners to take the entire tournament. Although they fell short of a win at Smash Summit 3, losing to Armada/Mew2King in the end, PewFat's record against the rest of the competition at UGC is nothing to scoff at. They finally brought it all together to win a supermajor at The Big House 6, where they went undefeated beating Team UGS and Mew2King/Hbox. Without Armada/Mew2King to stop them, PewFat may very well strengthen their argument for best team in the world this weekend.
Brothers Adam "Armada" Lindgren and Andreas "Android" Lindgren are hungry for a win at UGC after they recently made their state-side return at The Big House 6, where they fell short to PewFat. Making up for their difference in individual skill with some of the best synergy in the game, Team UGS clearly still has the potential to take big tournaments as evidenced by their The Big House 5 win last year. Can they overcome their close rivals and take their first American major of the year?
2016 has been a different look for Melee gods Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma and Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman. Aside from their win at CEO 2016, they have failed to match their 2015 dominance, most recently finishing at an underwhelming 5th place at The Big House 6. With teams such as PewFat seeming to have caught up to Mew2King/Hungrybox this year, the ball is now in their court to re-evaluate their game plan. The skill is clearly there -- Mew2King and Hungrybox's teams resume speaks loudly enough -- so be sure not to count them out too soon.
Competing in the US for the first time since Apex 2015, William "Leffen" Hjelte and Mustafa "Ice" Akcakaya will be looking to show that they can still play with the very best. Despite their low attendance, Leffen and Ice have the potential to go far at UGC, boasting multiple wins over Team UGS this year and placing at an impressive 3rd at Apex 2015 nearly 2 years ago, where they beat PewFat. Additionally, Leffen and Ice's overall improvement since Apex 2015 and their deadly double Fox combo could give them what it takes to take their first major team title at UGC.

- Colin "Colbol" Green and Kyle "Dizzkidboogie" Athayde, who made top 8 at The Big House 6 by beating many notable teams such as Lucky/Reno, Frootloop/Darkatma and Swedish Delight/DruggedFox
- Jeffrey "Axe" Williamson and James "Swedish Delight" Liu, two top teams players who often go under the radar
- DaJuan "Shroomed" McDaniel and Johnny "S2J" Kim, who got 4th at Smash Summit 1 the last time they partnered up
- McCain "MacD" LaVelle and Sami "DruggedFox" Muhanna, two of the best doubles players who have had success with each other's characters
- Ryan "The Moon" Coker-Welch/Edgard "n0ne" Shelby, James "Duck" Ma/Abhishek "Prince Abu" Prabhu, Aaron "Professor Pro" Thomas/Daniel "ChuDat" Rodriguez and more
