Well, I finally got enough(ish) money to get a better TV(the one I have is 20 years old). I want it for my PS3, so what do you guys recommend for best performance for the lowest price. I'm getting HDMI cables and **** later. My price budget is limited to 1$grand or under(preferably under). And since I'm a complete blockhead when it comes to TVs and technology, I'm here asking you this question.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it's any different, but don't buy a plasma screen TV. If you pause a game, and leave the TV on, the pause screen could potentially get burned into the TV.

That's about all I know. HDTV's lag though. It's only a few frames but if you play competitively or are practicing whatever game, don't play it on an HDTV.

I disagree I have a 32" LCD HDTV and there is absolutely NO button lag whatsoever

But as for a TV suggestions Look at Vizio they have really nice HDTVs... and go for LCD because as Maniclysane said plasmas are bad, they burn images onto the screen and also emit toxic gases... so stay away from them and LEDs are just too expensive... I think a nice LCD will be perfect for you..

+ I play my PS3 on my tv all of the time and it's amazing... I also have HDMI cables too

Okay. So no Plasma. Plasma is bad. LCD is good. *Takes note*

I live in Kuwait. Never saw a Vizio brand TV before. There's sony, samsung... etc.
I wonder if a Sony TV is much more compatible with a ps3 than other brand tvs.

So, any specific TV anyone? Can anybody give me a name? :(

Well no matter how much I love Sony since they created the beautiful thing that is the PS3.
I must say everything else they make is SOOOOOOOOO expensive... Laptops, tvs, etc.
And since your on a tight budget (well for nice tvs anyways) you might want to stay clear from Sony...
So take some more notes :]

Hold it!

If you play Melee, you will need an Analog TV. Trust me. I know. @ my tourney, I brought my HDTV thinking that everyone would be cool with an extra, only to find out it lags. The lag can be minimized through a passthrough device, but even so, you will notice your button inputs lag by a few frames. Not enough for it to disrupt n00blets in Melee, but a seasoned player will pick up on it very quick.

However, Brawl should be okay for a HDTV. Be sure that you enable the right mode on your Wii, though.

Any other current gen system will be fine with a HDTV.

Melee lags, I don't think Brawl does. I'll double check on that though.

*Goes to double check*

Sony is a world known brand, they will sell their products for more than its worth. i'm not hating on sony, but that's how the world works these days. You can get other good TVs that work just as fine for a smaller price, sharp or LG i'm guessing.

Oh btw don't buy your HDMI cables from Best Buy, Target, Walmart etc. They sell them for $50-$70. You can get ahold of HDMI cables from $5-$15 if you look hard enough.

Not to sound condescending, but you're probably not keen enough to notice the lag. There definitely is lag in all HDTV's.

This.

There is definitely lag no matter which version of Smash you play on an HDTV. Some sets lag less than others, though. Some lag so little that you can't notice it, but it is still there regardless.

Actually, I am very sensitive to slight changes in the game and there is no difference in lag between my HDTV and ANY other tv I've played smash on...
You also must remember that you can't exactly play your Wii in "HD" as there is no HDMI port that a cable could be plugged into.
So when I play smash my nice big HDTV is only acting as a normal SD tv because it's on the AV channel and not the HDMI channel.

For gaming ,the first thing is that it must be a 1080p,so the 720p is out .To play for more fun,the larger ,the better.look at this one,Toshiba 32" 1080p Widescreen LCD HDTV ,it has 8ms response time, 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, three HDMI inputs, and VGA, component, and other video inputs.

-Get a good brand (Sony/Samsung/LG are my top picks)
-1080p or 720p you're choice (though a lot of games and content on systems are offering 1080p now)
-Go for the lowest delay/response time you can, it shouldn't be hard to find something thats 6ms or less
-Contrast ratio is up to you, but the higher the ratio is the better it will look
-Try to make sure your TV has a game mode

I just got a LG 32" 1080p TV like 2 weeks ago and it's nothing short of amazing. I really don't feel any lag at all while playing Brawl, though I haven't done the Melee test yet.
