Turning around in Midair?

I know that this is just a minor thing, and I'm really sorry if this has already been thought of before, but I was just thinking- What if you were able to turn around in midair? In Melee, pressing the opposite direction from which way you were facing on the control stick would cause you to DI backwards. So, what if you could, by smashing on the control stick, spin around in the air? It would improve aerial combat (something Sakurai already said he wants to do).

For instance, while edgehogging, you could ledge hop, turn around, throw out a nair on a recovering opponent, then turn back around and grab the edge. Just a thought, flame me if you see it fit.

It's called dancing blade or double edge dance...

Haha, but really, I'm kidding.

I think it sounds interesting to smash the stick to perform a turn, but I agree with Salaad, why would we need a bair? Aren't most characters' bairs... you know, backwards fairs anyway? xD

But then why would we have a Bair at all if you could just turn around and Fair?
well some bairs are better in certain situations than a fair with some characters =]

well for the characters i main (samus and jiggly) they're quite different =P. Yah but I agree with you that most characters' bairs and fairs are quite similar

What it would really become is people turning around to b-air, as most of the time it's better, and when it isn't (with characters such as C. Falcon) it still usually has it's own use that the other one can't cover.

In fact, the only character I can think of whose f-air and b-air are basically the same is Zelda.

I know characters can turn around using certain moves, but wouldn't it make more sense to be able to just turn around instead of using a move? It would be a real simple thing to include.

I do want mid air turns and I think it will happen in this game becase of all the characters can fly. It seems as though mid air turns will happen and I hope they do.

After all these years of playing Melee I still try to turn in mid-air lol!

I think this would be an amazing addition to the game and I'd be able to pwn even harder =D.

I like the way it is now, to be honest. While it would be nice to have a universal method of changing directions mid-air, the current system requires a degree of cunning to quickly spin around. For instance, I really liked DBR's crew combo video because it features some neat tricks: GERM throws Link's bombs to turn around, and Hella uses Peach's turnips to do the same thing. Ken uses Marth's back-air, a trick unique to the Fire Emblem duo. And, as mentioned already, basically every character can turn around using his or her forward special move. A predefined method might interfere with potential combos.

But who knows? Maybe Nintendo will concoct a handy, unique way of doing things. :)

Ehh, I think it would make it excessively hard to do bairs, so no for me.
True that.

The way I see it, being able to turn around in mid-air would just make it frusterating when I go for bair with Ness and accidently end up turning around and just palming my opponent in the face. I'd hate to be cheated out of a kill that way.

Makes the controls too complex, me thinks. I say nay.

If you're afraid of turning around during a bair, make it so you have to smash the stick to turn. Or use the c-stick. Frankly, I could really care less about turning around in mid air.
