I'm sure those of us who like animation all know that traditionally animated movies hit an all time low in the early 00s in terms of quality, and then came rise to CGI movies. I personally think that it was the result of animated movies pretty much burning themselves out after an excellent run throughout the nineties. Now, as for which film was the nail in the coffin does vary from person to person, but regardless they did briefly die off. During this period of time, CGI movies ruled animated movie land while traditionally animated movies sank deep within the earth. Which style is better though... well, I prefer traditional animated over CGI any day.

Which ever you prefer is all up to you, but there's just some things in traditionally animated movies that don't really show up these days. For instance, I really like musicals when done well. Yeah, yeah, say whatever you'd like about musicals being "weird" or "kiddie" but if you can advance the plot or characterize/develop a character or two with a catchy song and great visuals then I'll gladly be entertained by it. And that's not really anything you see in animated films these days, unless the song in question is some annoying pop song that they payed the artist in question a lot to put into their movie (then again, that's been around forever). Now, I don't hate CGI, I actually really enjoy the style. I just prefer traditional animation over it. Maybe it's because I play a lot of video games....

Yeah, sorry for the poor quality in this blog. Just something I was thinking about and thought I might share.

I don't know what the difference is.
Do you mean like Disney, first being cartoon-style (Aladdin, Lion King) and then turning into "3d" animations (Wall-E, Monsters & co. I KNOW ITS NOT DISNEY B*TCH)?

Tradional animation, 2D cartoons (think Aladdin, Lion King, ect.)

CGI, Computer generated images, Kung Fu Panda, Wall-E.

I liked a lot of the old animated stuff instead of the CGI. I think some things can't be replaced. To clarify, I would hate for Alladin to be remade in 3d. CGI is cartoony in its own way. Call me old school, but I like the animated stuff better. I feel like they focused a bit more on the story instead of just the flashiness of CGI. Same goes with games. You have old pixellated games that focused on story and now games are just trying to vamp up the graphics. There's a lot of hit and miss with that - more miss unfortunately.

It might just be more expensive to hire artists to make a traditional movie rather an to render images instead.

It's actually more expensive to do CG animation than hand drawn animation. I just think that the pipleline for work and the amount of people trained to work in CG are more numerous and convenient to use versus hand drawn. Plus, the production schedule for a hand drawn animation is probably longer than a CG one (depending though), and hand drawn animated movies, as of late, aren't as big of hits as CG ones have been.

Personally, I choose traditional animation over CGI.

Love both of them though.
Oh, and no love for stop-motion animation? That's also really fun.
