64 tournament? No. They're only side events at big tournaments. I think the last legit "64 tournament" happened in Nor Cal and that was quite a while back. But yeah, check out your region for big tournaments and see if they're hosting a 64 side event.

apex? tacna? and that's not counting regional stuff which is fairly common especially at universities

I would suggest just going to nearby smash events or just smashfests, it's likely that local 64 players have been at one point or another and that you'd find melee or brawl players who can put you in contact with them, if not the players themselves.

By legit, I meant a tournament where 64 was the main event and wasn't some side event, lol. You're right about Tacna, though. I forgot about that.

I didn't actually. I just didn't think it was relevant since it's not NA. That's why I mentioned the one in Nor Cal because it's in NA. Tacna was the one I did forget about but it falls under the same situation as the Japanese tournaments.

it's pretty strange though to dismiss apex, a 64 person tournament, because it was a "side event". Who cares that there happened to be another tournament being run at the same time?

I think you're looking into it too much. It was a quick comment in my part that legit 64 tournaments don't happen too often in NA. Though I'm not sure where you saw that I dismissed Apex nor do I see somewhere where I said that 64 tournaments as side events was a bad thing.

we had a tourney in Atlanta a couple months back. theres a few good players there but i think it's mostly dead in terms of smash 64 tourneys.
