To clarify, I'm classifying Wind ******, ,Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, The Minish Cap and the 4 Swords games as toon Zelda Games.

Basically, I'm considering getting more into this sub-series and wanted to get discussion on the quality of the games. I loved WW, so much so that after completing and I'm now trying to put myself into a small group of people who completed the gallery on a green tunic file. I played a bit of PH and liked the game but got turned off by the controls.

I'd just like to know how people rank the games and which ones are worth buying.

Wind Waker is definitely the best out of all of them. Then I'd say 4 Swords because of the multiplayer. I liked Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass was alright, but I didn't really like Spirit Tracks.

So, I'd recommend Wind Waker 4 Swords and Minish Cap.

The handheld Toon Link games are all equal in fun to me. WW is definitely the best so I guess you should try all of them. But if you didn't like PH's controls then you might not like ST because it has the same controls so you should try one of the gba titles.

I fooled around with PH again and I found the controls pretty fun. What turned me off this time was the Temple of the Ocean King. What made it even worse is that I hadn't touched the game in over a year so I couldn't remember what I had to do to get up to the new part of the temple.

Minish Cap just strikes me as a solid game but having nothing really memorable about it. I could be worng though.

I noticed ST seems to get a lot of stick? Why is this?

By stiick do you mean hate? I never really noticed that much hate for the game. Maybe it's because they brought back the controls of PH which many people did not like, so that could be part of it. Also, they brought back the temple of the ocean king type dungeon in ST which a lot of people hated includng myself. It's a good game and it's worth getting if you liked PH.

One of my complaints with the game is that while the Train is an interesting idea, transportation is a little bit slower and more annoying since your restricted to train tracks and enemys are harder to avoids while in PH you can go in any direction at all while avoiding enemys more easily

Yeah stick means criticism. That could just be an Australian term.

At least with the OT in ST there's no time limit, and it looks more fun than the PH one.

The Temple of the Ocean King was terrible. Why would Nintendo even think about doing that? It was literally the bane of my existence.

They might of thought we would like it because it's challenging. Although, most people usually don't like time limits so that's why we hate it.

i never in my life played a toon link game is it fun?
IMO, they all are very fun especially WW. But it Depends on which type your talking about. The WW console game is great if you enjoyed any of the 3d console Zelda's and you will enjoy any of the Game boy advance Toon Link titles if you enjoyed past gameboy titles I guess lol(or probably Zelda 1 or ALTTP since they have the same style of gameplay basically. The DS games are fun too but they got old for me after I beat them once.

It's funny how everyone forgets that Four Swords Adventures is a Cube game.

It was the most repetitive thing ever though. They should have done it the ST way and let you go to different levels and do different puzzles.

Ok cool.

Does the GBA have connectivity to the DS when you play GBA games on it?

WW isn't a bad game. Anyone who bashes it because of the art style doesn't know the difference between objectively bad design and subjective preference.

Really the only serious design flaw is the triforce quest and maybe the low difficulty.

Not to mention tedious sailing

:phone:
I see this as a preference thing to be honest. It was really a love or hate thing. I felt that it was designed quite well actually, with the rotatable camera to compliment the great scenery and there was a decent amount of content when making trips with things such as enemies and treasures etc.

Once you were able to teleport sailing didn't take that long, and you don't really need to do that much sailing if you're not interested in sidequests.

But that's a preference thing. I don't really like the art style of the other console Zeldas apart from MM but I know it's still good scenery. They really nailed the cel shading though. It was very colourful and vibrant, the special effects looked cool and the animations were smooth too. Whether you like it or not you can't deny that they did it well.

Also, I find that fooling around in this game is really fun. Things like gliding around the Forsaken Fortress when it's empty during the day or messing around with ice arrows are really cool. I also feel that a lot of objects/spaces are accessible that aren't accesible in other Zeldas (like the tops of houses, downed ships, rock formations surrounding islands etc.). The freestyle cam does allow for some really cool views too.

Fooling around doing non-sidequest activities obviously isn't that important because most people just stick to the main adventure and the sidequests, but I thought it was still cool nonetheless.

I love MM too, but I only find it particularly special if I'm thinking about it while I'm playing, if that makes sense.

MM is really cool in concept, unique plot, good character development, rich cultures, dark art and themes, emphasis on sidequests rather than the main adventure, it's exactly the kind of thing I like. However, When I'm actually playing it, the controls are clunky, and doing things like defeating enemies and solving puzzles by moving blocks don't feel as fun because of the poor controls. I also feel things like the sound effects from killing something aren't as gratifying as they are in WW.

I think WW is better in those aspects, but MM obviously has a better plot and characterisation. Those aspects seem small but I think they contribute a lot to how much we enjoy the game without us really realising it.

Apart from the controls, the only other criticism I have of MM was the lack of interaction with the main villain.

At least it wasn't Ganon! I was so disappointed when they shoe-horned him into TP haha

And yeah, MM controls are sad face. I remember I was stuck on this part in Snowpeak where I had to Goron roll across a thin platform just because of the controls.

The villian was cool but he didn't get enough screen time.

To be fair though that would have been hard to implement because he didn't kidnap anyone and you keep restarting time.

Besides the 3-day concept and the moon were a good enough draw for the plot so they didn't really need to develop the villain like they did in WW (somewhat).
