well smash community i am i need of help yet again and you havent failed me yet but this is a tough one. ok so whenever im playing fox it seems like the other player puts so much pressure on me with mindgames and whatnot and im always on the defensive. like take when i play falco's for example their mindgames totally kill me because of the lasers and im not talking about alittle shl here and there my friends approach like beasts and if they dont feel that im open they just run away with reverse lasers and its really frustrating. i honestly dont even know how to describe my problem i think i did a pretty bad job because it kinda turned into a i hate lasers rant. ok well bottom line im constantly either scared of the other player or being torn apart by mindgames so yeah my mindgames suck and i need help.

Turn the pressure around. HAVE NO FEAR, BOY.

With Fox it's very important that you make your opponent feel the heat. Start learning how to powershield those lasers, or at least get around them well enough to make Falco sweat.

yeah i know but its not just with falco its against everybody it just so happens that its the worst with falco. ive got a couple ideas that im going to try later one of which is not play so fast and try to think more. i always play as fast as i possibly can so im going to try to slow it down and think more and see what happens.

i just found the words to describe my problem. it always feels like im running out of stage to play on its like they are everywhere and im on alittle platform of mindgames haha. yeah thats about right.

it's understandable how you could have problem dictating the pace against falco, but you should be able to control the pace against anyone else. that doesn't mean you have to constantly be attacking, but you should be able to force them to react to you. what specific problems are you having (other than shl)?

i dont think i really have a specific problem with any certain character i just fall for mindgames constantly haha. my friends and I have been even in smash skill for a year until recently when they started improving faster than me mostly in mindgames and such. the only thing ive got on them is speed im by far the fastest in the group but that doesnt mean anything when they play smarter than me.

I agree with FF. Yea I understand Falco's usualy play pretty aggresive and can rly mess you up, but you have to learn ways get around it. Start playing around with platforms, stay evasive to make SHL less dependable, try approaching with a waveshine (Shine laser > wavedash forward out of shine) I like doing that.. Vs. characters as fast as me, or aggresive as me, I usualy try to mindgame them into thinkin im vulnerable, (Start fox trotting away from em, blah blah) then all of sudden just turning the tables. It's a pretty good tactic actually. Ooooooooor... I just ram into em full force and show em who has the better offense =p. Read that one guide.. um lemme get the link.. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=60570 Uhh, read the Offensive/Defensive part, I didn't re read it but I think it has something about Vsin other Offensive or Defensive players. Um, Yea, and dont forget to Taunt.

I know EXACTLY what you're going through on this so maybe I can shed some light on the subject.

Ever since I started maining marth in my area, other players have picked up on him as well either as a main or a secondary. I'm also the fastest and most technical marth in the group, yet I find myself losing to basic things and basic mindgames/pressure even in dittos.

My advice....slow the game down. Think before you act. A smart (but not GOOD player) knows he can't beat you at your game so he won't fight it. Get the game back to the pace where YOU have the advantage. Get back to edgeguarding basics, shieldgrabbing, etc. Mix up your game a lil more instead of doing stuff that works against other players. Do what works against THIS particular player/character.

I know you know what you're doing in this game as I've read your posts, particularly in the Marth section. It just sounds like you're beating yourself right now and losing confidence in your game.

There are times when you must play cheap! Run around! Shoot the gun and then escape. When you pull off your opponent's focus cap, jump on that naked head and slap it. (I knew it! My metaphors suck)

Someone spamming too much lasers? Use the reflector!

I once had your EXACT problem. Just stop freaking out and realize you have more room to move than you think. You're probably being more intimidated by speed than mindgames. Just realize that if you don't challenge their movement, then you'll be restricting your movement by a TON.

Same as above. Remember that Fox can move a lot faster than almost any body else. Hop around, Short hop>FireFox into the ground toward him, that one usually takes my opponents by surprise, because it comes to them pretty fast if you can land a smash as soon as you finish bouncing towards them, from hitting the ground. I don't know if Fox can duck beneath a stream of SHL from a Falco, but you can try it. I know that whenever I play Kirby against a Falco, their lasers are useless because Kirby is about an inch high when he ducks. Might work for Fox *shrugs*

Also remember that full jumping with Fox can solve a lot of his matchup problems, especially against a Falco.

amigo, u are fox so, u have to be at the offensive, and try to select platform stages, and dont let him shine u, thats all, i know its pretty hard fight vs a falco but that doesnt matter, if he is far from u, shine, normaly, when he comes, just shortjump, and nair, thats what i do, and its pretty well for me, it works almost everytime XD.

This is extremely punishable. I wouldn't recommend making a routine out of it.

yeah... that sounds like a sure (why do i always want to spell sure "shure"? vista spell check ftw.) way to get yourself killed. every time. in fact, more than every time. sometimes you'll get killed twice. how would you like to lose 2 stocks becuase you used 1 move? that's right. i didn't think so.

i never really thought i could improve so much in the span of 2 days from reading a thread and a guide but i played like never before. i went from losing most of the time with a win here and there to total domination the likes of which ive never seen just by changing my playstyle. i guess i can blame it on my upbringing of GO REALLY FAST AND LOOK TECH ALL THE TIME LOLS ZELGADIS! but now i see the light and hopefully now i can really start to improve my skill. i cant thank you guys enough my gratitude cant be explained in words.

It's just so easy to get caught up in tech skill when you're on the verge of really mastering it for your character and then get beat by n00bish stuff. It's just a matter of application as I'm sure you found out in your recent games. Congrats on the comeback.

I say everytime you play a falco and he does a shl, do a shl split second before he does so you both get hit, and that will mess him up, ull get such replys as:

*why are you doin this?!*
*quit it!!!*
--- the occasional --- *Zomg*
and
*i am gonna SD now*

<(X_X)> = your opponents look after you done what i said

full jumping a nair against falco will catch him off guard and usually miss his lasers against a falco, cc shine can work to turn a match your way as well. (props to ff for knowing all this stuff and still posting to help less experienced players out)

EDIT: watch your opponent more, if theyre super aggressive look more closely into spotting patterns, counter attackng etc.

If you watch matches of zelgadis, he hardly looks like his combo vids, he actually plays a pretty stander agro fox.

and his shine spikes aren't as good in game, he just gets lucky alot. If you watch some vids, he actually times firefox spikes badly alot.

Also, try shorthopping falco's lasers, and if its high enough to hit short hop, duck it. If they try to nair or shfflc you after lasering, your shine if timed right can hit them before they hit you (thats what I've practiced anyway)

try to get lots of grabs in. Falco's done for if fox grabs him. Get close possibly DD to behind for a jc grab or something. just get one. Uthrow>usmash, uthrow>fsmash, uthrow>shine, uthrow>uthrow. it owns falco.

Play Falco a bit diffrent as you've done and he isin't half... quarter.. he isint .. wow, hes still hard but yea =p. CG as scotu said cuz it rly ownz falco. Knock em off the edge and own his lame recovery, sometimes a quick Sex Kick and a edgehog and Falco is done.. Dmash has pretty good trajectory combined with his Fast Fallin speed so that could be a good Edgeguardin setup as well. Gratz on yur performance, now up yur game and challenge Pc Chris =-p. Omg, and plz dont forget to Taunt, such a flaw in ppl's game nowadays..

you can substitue something too flashy to be used in gameplay for the taunt, if you feel it too difficult/ risky to taunt (or you just want to mix it up to mindgames your opponent).
