I was genuinely thrilled to have Ike 'spoiled' for me. I like knowing up front what I'm going to get in the things I buy, so early info suits me better. In fact, knowing for certain ahead of time that Ike is going to be in has basically ensured my pre-order will stand; I was wavering on it a little. The news excited me that much.

I'm 99.99999% sure I would've bought Brawl anyway. Sakurai has just ensured I absolutely, positively will (and basically already have, via pre-order).

Don't look, don't whine.

Some of us like finding this stuff out. You don't, okay, then don't look.

Was annoying enough having to write everything in spoilers when Twilight Princess came out.

I agree with you, but its not like he is going to show us every single character before the launch, so some of the game will still be a surprise. In fact, I am fairly confident that he will only reveal a few of the characters, not all of them!

You guys are f ucking d ouchebags. I don't understand why you have such a problem with people who like surprises. You don't even try to see things from another person's perspective for a second. That'll do you well in life.

I'm very good at seeing things from another person's perspective. However, I have a difficult time seeing things from the perspective of someone with a peanut allergy who just ran into a Planters (tm) factory.

Seriously... don't take this the wrong way, but here is a few words of wisdom;

What to do if you like surprises on SSBB: Just dig your head inside of a hole (not literally....), and don't come out until December 3rd. You will be guaranteed surprises by the truck load.

What NOT to do if you like surprises on SSBB: Do NOT go read the official website which has Daily Updates of SSBB content, both NEW, OLD, and REMADE. Do NOT go to fan based forums which are directly talking about SSBB either. These are both excellent sources of News, Rumors, Gossip, and other Information, and are guaranteed to give you LESS Surprises by December 3rd.

And you most certainly should not complain that you are being spoiled because you have absolutely no will-power to avert your eyes from smashbros.com and smashboards.com. It is not as if someone came to you, pointed a gun at your head, stretched your eye lids with clamps, and made you view these websites. The only one here to blame is yourself. You reap what you sew.

Did you read any of my posts? All of your points are addressed in them. If you had read them, there would not have been a need for your post.

And haha almightypancake yeah I have the same problem.

Anyway, I won't be coming back here or to the Dojo cuz I don't want more spoilers (as I stated many times before and was not paid attention to apparently), but man it was fun to see how riled up people can get over something like this. Since I knew I wouldn't be coming back, I wanted to leave with a good laugh, and man have I been laughing at this thread. This board's a little uptight, huh? I know I'm being a jerk but everyone's gotta be a jerk from time to time. Thanks for the arguments, it was good practice. And good luck to all in having their favorite characters being in the game. :)

Actually, I don't know what my opinion is either. Before, items and stages weren't a problem for me, but now I'm think, EVERY piece of info on the site is a spoiler. Stuff like Delfino Plaza, the Foot Stool jump, the banana and the bumper...characters...

I really don't know which side of the line I stand on anymore. Part of me really wants to know what the update is every single day, and another part of me doesn't.
Heck, I don't even know if I'll be getting the game in December.

Man, I am one confused s.o.b.

nevermind. it's not worth explaining anything to those with tunnel vision
I agree whole-heartedly with you, so since you're not saying anything, I'll at least share my own feelings.

I, personally, understand the fact that going to the Dojo is my decision. I WANT to know things about the game. That doesn't mean I want to know EVERYTHING, and no, there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't know, for sure, that Ike is a secret character—it just seems like he is. And if that's the case, then I think Sakurai was wrong in updating with him. I can understand him letting us know about Snake because he generated so much hype being third-party, but for the most part SECRETS SHOULD REMAIN SECRETS.

Sure, I could make SURE that I don't see anything else by just not visiting the dojo or this forum. . . but I truly don't believe I should have to. I like coming here and discussing things about the game that have been revealed, but I consider those things that will be readily available when I get the game. Revealing hidden characters defeats the purpose of them being hidden. It's like posting all the major plotlines of the last Harry Potter book online before it comes out (which people did).

Sure, I'll still enjoy playing the game, but I won't get the feeling of surprise by unlocking the characters. I still enjoy Melee to this day, but Melee was the most fun in the beginning for me, when I was still discovering things about it. I don't see why I should have to isolate myself from this forum for the next 4 months to make sure that part isn't taken away from me with Brawl. I think it'd be much better if Sakurai just kept the lid on about all the hidden stuff.

Is it just me or do most threads turn into flame wars by the 3rd or 4th page. Anyway, I like surprises and don't like them being spoiled. However my will power isn't that great regarding secrets so I look anyway. I definitely can't blame anyone but myself so I just have to deal with it. Oh well, there are worse things I guess.

Is that really what you people look forward to? You want to unlock characters and be surprised at who they are? I have not unlocked a character in over five years, but I like the game way more now than I ever did. Unlocking characters is a one-time thrill that does nothing to increase the longevity of the game. The only conclusion I can derive at this point is that you are extremely casual smashers. As for those of you still upset at all the spoilers, you can believe whatever you want about how the forums should be. The fact remains: everyone (obviously excluding those who have made themselves known in this thread) will stay on the forefront of Brawl news, spew them out here, and analyze them to no end. If something spoils the game for you, you have no one to blame but yourself.

SSBB is not a deep single-player campaign with a storyline that can be experienced only once. It is a fighting game! There really is nothing being "spoiled" at all. I'll be honest: with Melee, I had the game guide sitting right there showing me all the available characters/stages and how to unlock them. Under normal circumstances, I never use a player guide the first time through, but seeing as how this is a competitive fighter, I have minimal interest in saying, "Ooooh, wow, look at this neat new character I unlocked!"

(not the best analogy but here goes) Alot of people like pizza; Some like pepperoni and some like deluxe, but both still like pizza. The point is not everyone has to like smash bros for the same reason. To some surprise are really important. But, everything you said was 100% true...,,,for yourself and people like you who don't care for surprises. Thats ok though because your just the pepperoni and mushroom type. Surprises don't go on your pizza.

Also, I did mention the part about only blaming myself so I hope that wasn't directed at me.

That was the best I could. Please no flaming if possible. Thank you.

LOL people who complain about spoilers are dumb. Suck it up. Basically, stay away from this site or ANY Smash-related forum or chat if you like surprises so ****ing much. People who don't like surprises like to discuss new characters, stages, items, etc. Don't come onto this ****ing board, knowing it's ABOUT SSBB, and go "OMFG WOW YOU ALL SPOILED THIS GAME FOR ME." Yeah, well, no **** sherlock, this is the SSBB board. It's your fault for coming here.

I get what you're saying, and I agree, but at the same time I can't help but think...that yeah...even though the excitement of discovering the new characters is a cool novelty for the first few weeks you have the game...after you're used to them...for the long term...it dosen't really matter at all.

Also, the excitement of playing the new game for the first time is far more intense for me than knowing who the characters are.

Yes. It's not all I look forward too, obviously. But it's part of what I love about it. I actually find it very odd that you don't. Touching back on my Harry Potter reference, it'd be like looking up all the characters who die in the last book before you read it. Sure, you can read it and enjoy yourself, but those moments where those characters go will be lost on you. For me, seeing all the secret characters before smash kills some of the excitement from unlocking new characters. I can still use them and have fun with them, but the act of getting them is terribly diluted.

I have not unlocked a character in over five years, but I like the game way more now than I ever did.
Fair enough. I don't. It's still fantastic, it was just even more fantastic when I had things to work for.

Unlocking characters is a one-time thrill that does nothing to increase the longevity of the game.
Who said anything about increasing longevity? I'll be playing Brawl for years regardless, I'm sure. That's not the point. It's more fun when I don't know EVERYTHING. Besides, that one-time thrill is still a thirll. It's worth looking forward to.

The only conclusion I can derive at this point is that you are extremely casual smashers.
I suppose I would consider myself a casual smasher; I don't go to tournaments. But "extremely casual" is a bit overboard. I still play the game, 6 years after it came out. And I still love it. I just also love the thrill of the unknown.

As for those of you still upset at all the spoilers, you can believe whatever you want about how the forums should be. The fact remains: everyone (obviously excluding those who have made themselves known in this thread) will stay on the forefront of Brawl news, spew them out here, and analyze them to no end. I don't really care about the forums specifically. I know that EVERYTHING that is mentioned on the Dojo will be discussed here—that is, afterall, the point. My main concern is that I just don't get why Sakurai and his teammates would reveal these kinds of things. I can see they're going to, and believe me, if I see one or two more secret character updates, I'm bolting. I just don't see the point. Why not leave any mystery at all?

SSBB is not a deep single-player campaign with a storyline that can be experienced only once.
No one said it was.

It is a fighting game!
No one said it wasn't.

There really is nothing being "spoiled" at all.
That's your opinion, and I very much disagree with it.

That's your prerogative. And if you want to, you should be able to do that.

But since something like a game guid will do that for you, I don't see why there can't be one source of information for Brawl that doesn't give away those secrets. I would think that if it were any site, it would be the official one. But, as we've stated that clearly isn't the case. I'm just expressing my disappointment over that.

how about we all take a step back and breathe a little. We are talking about a videogame, and people are giving themselves hypertension about it?

Dude doesn't like spoilers... whoop de doo. Some other people don't understand that... okay. Calling someone a baby, or an idiot, or a whiner because they stated that they disagree with the hype-building info releases is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

What this thread has turned into is absolutely ridiculous.

Ah well, so says this troll.

Alright, I've come to a conclusion that shoots my original topic in the FACE.

First I thought I'd not check smashbros if the update was a character, a stage, or a how to play or game mode. Then I'd ask a friend if there were any thread TITLES that gave the update away, and what threads not to go to.
This would be alot of work, but yes, it'd be worth it to not spoil the surprise. But then I had a thought: "What about SHOW ME YOUR NEWS?"
That would recap every update of everyday of the week. I'm a big fan of that and can't miss it, so I guess I'll have to spoil the surprises for myself.
I've also come to the conclusion that there will still be TONS of surprises in Brawl when it's released, and even though I know IKE is in the game, when and if it says "A CHALLENGER APPROACHES" I'll be JUST as stoked.

I'm assuming Sakurai is assuming that people are becoming impatient with his game. Due to the large amount of delays this game has gone through, Sakurai revealing that it will finally be released December 3rd poses somewhat of a problem. Of course, being part of the SSB series, this game gets hyped. Big time. Sakurai probably does not want to lose the hype for this game, so he starts posting interesting things; he posts updates he believes people will love to see. Thus, he posts character unlockables, saying "LOOK! THIS IS WHO YOU CAN UNLOCK! SERIOUSLY, BUY THIS GAME!" I don't know what his intentions are; this is only my guess as to why he's posting this.

Second of all, if you do not like spoilers, seriously, don't go to Dojo. None of the intelligent posters here need the whining **** about how your life was ruined due to the magnitude of an update.

Third of all, poster above me, you're basically addressing no one. The point here is not that people are flaming someone for liking surprises. The point is people come here and complain about surprises, but it's all their fault.

EDIT: Addressing Behemoth not you, Pyro.

I gotta admit, there's nothing like hearing the siren and seeing a silhouette and thinking "IS THAT WHO I THINK IT IS?!" only to crap yourself when the character is revealed in the following match.

At the same time...I really cannot wait to find out every thing I possibly can about this game.

Also, though, Ike might be a starter...so who knows if we're actually going to see any secret characters before release?

That is such an awesome feeling.

@Nothing Rhymes With Circus: So you feel the same way the I first did when creating this thread? That you don't like the BIG character spoilers? Btw, do you listen to the SHOW ME YOUR NEWS podcast?

AND AT EVERYONE ELSE: Stop posting worthless spam saying "If you don't like spoilers, don't go to The Dojo or forums" . If you're going to post here, atleast bring something else to the table besides the obvious.

...Um, this is the topic YOU created. This is the topic of the thread YOU created. Basically, no forum is going to stop discussing large updates because of the concerns of people like you. Instead of telling us to make conversation outside the obvious, try making threads without the answers to your topics being obvious.

I think people who avoid smash bros dojo and smash boards for the months leading up to the release of the game will feel pretty dumb when they see all the characters that were revealed on the Dojo site on the cover of the game / commercials for the game.

It's pointless.

You suggested that every forum stops posting updates, we've explained why that's not a possibility. What further insight can any of us give? Buzz said virtually the same thing the people who were "stating the obvious" said. Deal with the updates, or leave until the game's released. They won't spoil everything, and at this point you don't even know if anything unlockable has been given away yet, anyway.

And I've also said how the "EVERY FORUM SHOULD STOP" thing wouldn't work.
You know, it does say in the "Terms and Agreements" that you have to be able to read to become a member of this site.

ROFL. And they should also state "One must not be a complete ****ing moron to join this site." You posted a topic about too much information released on the Brawl site, and the fact that the only way one will be able to avoid the updates is for the forums to stop the discussions. We stated how that is not possible. In fact, many people in this topic have. This is what you should be expecting. Threads get flooded with answers until moderators deem it fair to close the topic. We did not spam your topic; we answered your topic validly and legitimately. If someone disagreed with us, we would once again post the reasoning and why the reasoning is correct.

Then don't browse the Dojo or the forums, you ignorant little piece of ****. You already answered your own question, and yet you continue to fill your own topic with meaningless posts.

Wow QFT my friend. That's exactly how I feel.
I didn't mind Wario and Snake being confirmed (I've never played MGS so I don't really care, and I knew Wario was in) , but IMO he should keep 99% of the new characters secret. I don't mind Metaknight and Pit either, but Sakurai should've stopped there.
So it comes down to what you want, and what you care about. Sakurai can't satisfy everyone, so take what you get.

Don't blame others for your own personal problem that can would not exist had you even had a scrap of self-discipline. Then you post some moronic comment about how "You know, it does say in the "Terms and Agreements" that you have to be able to read to become a member of this site." As someone else stated earlier, they should also have "Not a ****ing moron" as one of the requirements as well.

Self-control is a wonderful thing. Go get some.

Okay, let me all ask you something.

Who here still thinks these warning banners were spoiler warnings? Seriously, after all these hints, translations, whatever?

The solution is just so freaking obvious. Don't want spoilers? Don't read the Dojo, don't read the brawl rooms, and it's problem solved.

If you want to see what's going on with ample spoiler warnings, check out our Brawl Blog (www.smashbrawl.com) and the updates with new characters (and updates that have screens of new characters) will be tagged with the CHARACTER SPOILERS catagory.
