To brawl that is, In melee I used yoshi quite a few times being my favorite character. Though i mained as shiek/zelda in melee. I know how hard tournament play is, albeit i live in a small community, never went to any BIG tournaments.

I Am just curious to as what should i do with Yoshi, I really don't have any technique in any of my characters other than my (secondary) lucario (which use too be my main).

I know about DR, and Ive got that down pat, I know edge guarding, and using the egg's to recover, but what more would you advise i look into as someone new to brawl in itself I really dont feel like embarrasing myself in any upcoming tournaments.

IDK, get the advanced techniques of yoshi mastered, and learn some damage racking combos.

A good way is to get an idea through watching other yoshis play and then developing your own style from the basic strategy that most yoshis use. We all have our individual styles that define our gameplay. Check out the video thread.

Edit: As a side note, practicing alot is key to being good with any character. You should feel comfortable and have an idea of what your next move is no matter what the situation. That comes from hours of gameplay of just getting used to yoshi.

Thanks for the helpful posts, yea i learned about DR from a video in a topic here Its quite helpful though. I do watch alot of those videos and I think to myself of how baddly i dont want to be bad at my favorite character. I really never saw any yoshi's in Tournaments in melee in my town, so imma grab at any chance i get to get good/better with him.

Again, Thank you for your help and time.

Yoshi has a great grab game, utilize his pivot grab and you'll have to rework your spacing if you mained Lucario before. Bair approach and spam your eggs when your opponent is distant. YOU control the stage with them.

Lol tips from someone completely new and then he goes on to say he perfect the DR. Come on you aren't new if you got that down.

Just learn not to SD and use your Dair, and Fair to gimp whenever possible. Or use Bair to send them further away from the stage. Don't use Butt slam that much unless theres a slope, so much lag on it. if you do use it, only use it online.

learn how to take Yoshi's small advantages he has over some characters and focus on those.

learn to use his super armor frames efectivly and know what attacks break through it (super armor ends at 150%).
learn all of the chain grabs.
DRs ok but still kinda hard to find a use for it in the midst of battle.
get used to using b-airs, they've saved my life more times than i can count.
you said edge-guarding right?...yeah do that, Yoshi's an excelent edge-guarder.
mix approaches up and keep them guessing.
throw in a nifty egg lay to throw them off.
pivot grab...
blah blah blah.

and most importantly, have fun lol.

That was the first thing i really knew, I wouldent say 100% i still have my messups here and there. But i can, and do use it ^-^.

The challenge for me is grabbing, I can really never manage it :\.

noooooo no computers! They make you develope baaaad habits, like really. Don't get too comfy with them. Better to lose to a person and learn than win against a computer with tactics that don't work on anything with a controller in its hands.
