Remember back in December 2018 when Joker/Ren was announced for Smash Ultimate DLC? Joker/Ren is from Persona, which is part of the Megami Tensei franchise. However, although he originates from a videogame, the videogame he originates from isn't from a franchise that started out as a videogame. Megami Tensei actually started out as a novel series called Digital Devil Story.
Back in Brawl and Smash 4, non-videogame characters and fancharacters were automatically deconfirmed as playable characters. They couldn't even have any place at all. But could Joker/Ren joining Smash lead to something even more dramatic?
So, does this mean that non-videogame franchises can now be in Smash? Are non-videogame characters no longer deconfirmed? However, fancharacters, are still deconfirmed.
PS: In my opinion, non-videogame franchises should only be represented if they have had significant videogame history. And it should be limited to assist trophies and spirits.
