Crappy Imitation

"Hm... login. Username... E..A..S..T. Pass..word Kumquat [obviously not my real password]"
As I pop onto the smashworld forums, I go through my daily routine of first checking the sheik boards.
"Wow, things really have picked up lately. Seems like everyone is suddenly interested in learning about the sheik and zelda match-ups. Hm... I wonder what they're talking about."
I eagerly click through and read the thread to catch up on what everyone's talking about. I finally come to a post and can't help but to smack my hand over my forehead... another noob posted in the thread. Making the moment short-lived I move over to the add reply button and start typing away, to address anything I feel is important and relevant.
As I click the post button and see my input flash up for all to see, it hits me. I can't believe it. I quickly pull up another board and see what someone else has posted there, and so on and so forth. The feeling is near enlightenment, and the result is a small grin and an added sense of satisfaction.
The point I'm getting at is Smash World forums as a whole. Whether it's posting in our favorite character thread, the tactical thread, debate hall, or wherever else every post made here adds a little bit more knowledge to the total compendium of the smash brothers competitive scene as a whole.
Just looking through the boards, there are match-up threads, with statistics and intense debates and discussion about characters. Tactical threads are aglow with random miscellaneous information regarding techniques and knowledge of the game as a whole. Even the General Discussion thread with talk of the "Show Me Your News" Podcast or Ken on Survivor or anything else.
There are over 6 million posts on the smashboards and with every post [even the ones that don't seem relevant, or are just made as jokes] there is a little something to be gained. It doesn't have to be a epiphany, I mean any tidbit of knowledge at all is helpful.
What astounds me most is the fact that over 100,000 people have come together from across the globe to simply play a game. Saying it like that almost seems to not even do what has been done here on smashboards justice. The members here are all motivated in forwarding an idea, an intangible thing we call a metagame.
It has evolved so far to the point where the game is taken to a whole new level of theory and mindset. My mind is blown at the effort and time that is put into conversing with others to better oneself and the community in which they inhabit. We have come together from innumerable walks of life, for a common purpose. And that is the underlying factor I want to get at. No matter all the bickering and arguing we do, all the debating and discussing we do, all the conversing and joking we do, we are a community.
That is something that I am damn proud of. And as a member of the community here, I hope it's something you take pride in too. So take a moment here to really appreciate Smash World Forums and all the things that everyone has done to help build it up to what it has become today. It's something we should all applaud ourselves for.
