This is how you can easily grab the ledge by pivoting

This is an old brawl trick, but could be useful for the PM crowd, since I've never seen anyone do it.

How to do easy pivots:
Hold the attack button
Walk forward
Flick the C-stick diagonally upwards and backwards
- If you flick too low, you will charge a fsmash backwards
- If you flick too high, you will begin dashing
If you succeed, you will pivot, and then immediately begin walking forwards again because you are holding forward

Now just do this right before you are about to walk off the stage.
Gain style points.
Pretty handy if you hate killing yourself with accidental airdodges when trying to wavedash to the ledge.
You can also bair before you grab the ledge (Ivy too stronk)
Holding the attack input is tricky while flicking the c-stick if you don't have custom controls with attack on a trigger. I personally claw.

A rar wd risks suicide. It's quite easy for players who have an attack button mapped to a trigger (or Y if you claw) so you can go directly from shffling an aerial to hit your opponent offstage, hold attack as you land, casually walk towards the edge as your opponent wonders why you're being so free, then outta nowhere you ninja the ledge from them.

I just randomly switch to claw during matches and press and hold A when I land from something, even during the standard four frame empty landing, then use it to pull off stylish perfect moonwalks, pivot walking, infinite length dash dances, and other cool stuff. easily my favorite mechanic from brawl.

You could just RAR sans wavedash. Fast enough in 90% of situations.

Do people forget that's a thing?

Just what is a "RAR WD" anyways?

RAR stands for Reverse Aerial Rush, where you dash, then immediately hit the control stick in the opposite direction with a quick jump, press an aerial forward (which is now a Bair from the quick turn around).

WD stands for wavedash.

So, together, you dash, hit the control stick backwards really fast and jump, and then waveland towards wherever.

That would be more like a RAR waveland, RAR WD only involves leaving the ground for the single frame (I think it's actually two in P:M due to 1 frame physics delay) required for a wavedash.

also, for more slidey characters (luigi, lucas, squirtle, etc.) you can just dash towards the edge, cancel the dash with a crouch and turn around all in one motion. it's literally just a quick half circle of the joystick from towards the ledge to away. pretty much any member of the cast can do it, except maybe characters with very unique crouches and extreme friction with the stage. Even R.O.B. can do it when it's done at the very last second. I agree with the other posters that RAR WD to grab the ledge is very risky. This alleviates that risk somewhat, as if you fail it, you don't go into special fall and die.

You could do this for a ledgedrop in Melee.

In general, there's a lot more ledge-snapping option in P:M. It'll be interesting to see where the game goes with all of them.

How do you do all this?

I'd really like to know, never played Brawl much and I have attack mapped to R

it sounds an awful lot like this:

i use it as peach sometimes when holding a stitch or something for surprise smashes. might mess with your wd oos game though if anyone who doesn't have this set up with r=attack. it also makes for easy moonwalks, even with peach and other characters. doesn't give moonwalks for every character though, but its still semi-useful for smashing with an item regardless of who you use.
