Thinking of starting NYC events for local Melee Tourny's

As the title shows. I was thinking of stock piling on Wii's and starting events with cash prizes at the end and such. Maybe if Melee is a success I would branch into Brawl as well. Right now I am just trying to get feedback from everyone. I don't mind becoming an event coordinator and trying to set everything up. So here is the question:

How likely would the gaming community feel if there was a monthly melee (possible Brawl) tourny with entrance fee and cash prizes?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

There are a couple of NY monthlies already, but location and timing is major. When, what day of the week, where?

I work a 9-5, m-f so it would be after that.

I would find a venue somewhere in manhatten as that is central to all the boroughs, Sat/Sun probably every first weekend of the month.

To be honest, you don't sound all that familiar with NY's smash scene. I've never been to NY, but I know about the monthlies in Nanuet and NYC. Also judging by your post count (bad indicator I know...), you haven't done a ton with your community yet. The fact is, you're in a crowded market. What can you offer that they don't already have?

^ how can you discourage someone from trying to hold fest/monthlies/bi-weeklies? Evn if your region has 10 monthly events, an 11th one only sounds better

Strippers would most certainly distinguish you lol.

Just be sure to have a finger on your community's pulse. Get a feel for what's needed, but definitely be mindful of what you already have. I guess that's what I meant by my original post.

I'd recommend talking with Alex Strife, Alukard, D1, Warrior of Zarona, etc. just to get in touch with the other TOs in the region. Don't want to step on anyone's toes.

do it up, honestly nyc is what everyone needs and could bring everyone together. all the trains get there. most "ny" tourneys are either in the middle of no where or places people legit would never step foot in otherwise.

i'd have said do it but Alex Strife is starting a new series at Mage Gaming on 31st street very soon. there's pretty much already a tournament every week for tristate and with this new series it's only gonna get more packed. No Johns is every month, Sudden Death is every month, and now this series is gonna be every month.

your best bet might actually be friday nights, like the good old web2zone days. that would be pretty hype actually

When is the Mage Series supposed to start up again? I saw that a brawl one is set for April 13th and it got me worried that they were just gonna do brawl ones instead
