There will NOT be a downloadable Brawl Demo!

So I've seen some threads concerning demos pop recently. I even saw a "petition" get put up. Honestly, putting up a petition to get a playable demo of Brawl(or any other game for that matter) is like putting up a petition to release a White Tiger back into the ocean... Think about that for a second; it won't work. And here's why:

You guys clearly don't know the storage capacity of the Wii. It's said that the Wii's storage capacity is 512 megabytes. That's ridiculously small, especially for a Demo. And the worst part is, you can only use 400 out of that 512mbs.

I've seen you guys compare N64 Virtual consoles games with possible Wii demos and somehow reached the conclusion that both will take up an equal amount of space. We're talking two generations of gaming back here; of course N64 Virtual Console game will fit into the Wii's storage space! You think technology hasn't progressed long enough to surpassed such an obstacle?!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_64
The size of an N64 cartridge is 8 Megabytes. 16 for the later ones. Do you guys know much 8 megabytes is? That's the size of 2 mp3s files. But do you think a Wii Game Demo is going to be worth that little? Wake up! You're dreaming. For the PS3 and Xbox360, the average size of trailers and other videos that you can download on the their respective hard drives is about 200 megabytes. That's half the usable Wii's storage capability. Again, these are TRAILERS. And demos for the PS3 and Xbox360 average at about 500 megabytes. If Nintendo ever does release any demos, they'd probably be half their size, but it's still ridiculously large amount of space taken up. Imagine the Hard drive for your computer. Now imagine 75% of that hard drive occupied by a single computer game. That's absolutely absurd... Want that on your Wii? You shouldn't.

Now let's move on to Gamecube and Wii discs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube_Game_Disc
Gamecube Discs: 1.5 gigabytes(2.5 times the size of the Wii's flashdrive[including the space you can't use])
Wii Discs: 4.7 gigabytes(Nearly 8 times the size of the Wii's flashdrive[including the space you can't use])

You want a demo of the of a Wii game? Do the math yourself. Keep in mind that it'll be a fraction of the actual game. And that even 1/8 the size of a Wii game will exceed the Wii's storage capacity. 1/16th of a Wii game will take up half the total usable storage capacity of the Wii assuming they aren't already filled with stuff like channels, settings, etc. But like I said: even that's unforgivable.

The best and most logical approach to satisfy demands for demos is by simply producing them on discs.

/Rant

Edit: Oh, and before you guys make other comparisons, like WiiWare games with Demos, bare in mind that some WiiWare games are $10; the same price as N64 Virtual Console games. And I just went through N64 Virtual Console games and their size so I'd rather not repeat myself. Oh and look at these screenshots of an upcoming Pokemon WiiWare game and decide for yourself whether or they're truly impressive:

I think anyone with any intelligence knows a downloadable demo isn't likely. That's why a demo disc would be a much better choice. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping a demo disc gets released, either with another upcoming Wii title or Nintendo Power. I'd gladly buy a ****ty game to be able to play the demo.

1 Stage, 2mins match Character menu theres: Link, Pikachu and Sonic is enough for me.
Thats like 1/1000 part of the game. SO they could edit the demo a bit like that and put it to the WiiWare.

And the Final Smashes ofcourse.

Disc is the only way for a demo.... Problem is that how they may distribute it to the public. If it's NP only, many will miss out.

ATTENTION EVERYONE:

Stop making threads that rival other threads, and just post in the PRE-EXISTING threads! I mean seriously, I have to look on the third or fourth page for the threads I was interested in that used to be on the first.

______Thank...You....So...Much.

You have said what I have been thinking ever since someone suggested that, it's simply not likely, and barely possible. The wii's memory is so small it makes me a little sad. Other consoles have huge (comparativly) Harddrives. Now, I wonder if the wii's harddrive could be expanded, there IS a USB port on the back, I know for a fact that my computer has 50% of its data on various USB port hardrives.

Well, we can always hope for that, in the meantime, lets make a "don't even look at these worthless petitions" petition.

Nintendo's eventually going to have to realize that they'll need to allow for external-harddrive support with Wii. Only at that point will considerations for demos like this be made.

This is what I've been saying, Wii doesn't have the storage capacity to handle a demo, they would have to bundle the demo with a game like Super Mario Galaxy [this would probably make SMG sell WAY better than it could on it's own].

For months I've been wondering why there still isn't a hard drive and all I hear is "you can use SD cards". Cards don't cut it.

It's not like Nintendo has never released a Demo disk before... I'm hoping for some kind of release through Gamestop for those who reserved. I don't know the chances, and I'm not holding my breath, but I do hope they find some way to get a demo to the people to hold us over... Other systems get these opportunities, and Nintendo shouldn't be any different...

Oh man, that would be genius. I know Nintendo's already going to make a killing with SMG, but packing it in with a Smash Bros. demo would easily make it the best-selling game this year, no doubt.

A demo-disk would make-up for the Smash delay and would also guarantee instant success for Nintendo with SMG. There are more reasons to pack it in than not to.

GameStop... Demo disc in the mail with every reservation paid in full. That's how I see it in the US. Maybe NP but i doubt it.

I was pretty sure it wouldn't be there before hand, but this is a kick in the crotch :/

I personally hope Nintendo does one of the following:

-Sells it as a 'preview' version for £5-10 or $5-10

-Packages it with another game (SMG etc)

-Gives it out with a magazine (Nintendo Power for America / Whatever the UK one is called nowdays I forget)

My main concern is that they DO bring out a demo, and DO bring it out outside the US, it's bad enough not having a release date.

What in the world makes you think that games take up the entire disc? SSBM took up 1 GB of the 1.5 GB GCN discs could hold. Anyway, the Wii has 512 MB of on board storage. An HD demo takes up the amount of space you said it does on Xbox Live. I've seen HD demos around 300 MB - 400 MB. We could easily get a 200 MB or so demo of SSBB on the VC.

Is it doable? Yes.
Will it be done? No.

The No is not due to technological constraints, it's due to Nintendo not wanting to do it.

Here's hoping that they'll do make a demo disc, you know. From what I heard, the Wii can't hold that much megabites. Besides, only way you could download the game is on a SD Card. They can hold up to 2GB.

But yeah, its pointless to get ya hopes up on a downloadable demo.
