Hi, I'm Pigzooka and I'm just not that great at Smash. If I win one game in an hour of playing, I usually call it a day because it won't happen again. I think I mostly just need more practice - one of my big problems is that the game currently feels like it moves faster than my brain, so I'm about one level above button mashing. Most of my characters that I've played extensively are at <70K GSP. Why is my perspective valuable? Because I represent a huge proportion of the playerbase. Most of the commenters on here seem to be in Elite Smash, but that can only be 10% of the playerbase. Most of us aren't that good, and have different problems than, say, it being a pain that you have to get to Elite Smash individually on each different character. So what's shaking at the very bottom of the Smash ladder?
- The skill matchups vary wildly. You can run into players who are mashing buttons and have no idea what they're doing, but also players who do know what they're doing, are pulling out their short hop aerials, hitting attacks like nobody's business, and could probably place better than last in a tournament setting, which is far above what the rest of us are capable of.
- There are awful, awful rulesets. I had 2 separate games in an hour yesterday which were 3 minutes 3 stock with assist trophies, smash balls, and poke balls on normal maps. These are made by players who have no clue what they are doing, but for those of us who want to get better it's frustrating to feel like you have no way to control what happens. Have you ever had to fight Bayonetta in the hallways of Luigi's Mansion? Horrible.
- Some characters are just better than others, but it's a different tier list than at higher levels. For example, Little Mac is probably an A-tier down here, because he can hit so hard and there's so little that can be done by unskilled players to get around and counter him. But Peach? Pikachu? Fox? These characters, good as they might be, see little success, which could end up hurting people in the long term as they pick characters that won't really serve them as they improve.
So that's my perspective. Some of this is probably the same at higher levels. I'm just reporting what I see.
