The use of Sheiks Dair

I really find Sheiks Dair to be not as bad as you all say it is..

sure it is punishable, but only punishable if you spam it and be really predictable with it.

one of sheik's major problems is her priority, and although Dair's priority is still pretty bad, i believe there is a property some of you are overlooking.

It comes from the top, and many move's hitboxes do not extend that high, and if they do the priority is usually weakened. I find it the only way to actually approach some characters, usually as a surprise.

_______

I suggest using dair as an approach, after a normal hop (don;t go too high). it seems to be the only solution against some attacks.

LEts say you are approaching a Cfalcon who is spamming his AAA.

we all know the priority on this attack is surprisingly high and out ranges sheiks attacks. it is possible to dash>sheild but that is too perdictable. it is possible to throw a needle, but there is too much lag time afterwards, and you cannot really follow up.

just dashing, maybe a little dash dance, then doing a full hop and using dair actually hits your oppoenet, especially if it is a move like falcon's AAA where it takes some time for the move to end. you end the spam, and you cannot be punished because your opponent just got hit. (not at low percentages)

A lot of criticism to her Dair is the landing lag, but i find that is negated if you hit with the Dair. The hitstun/distance your opponent suffers is enough to recover from the Dair.

______

So is Dair being overlooked? or am I just playing bad smashers who do not know how to sheild a Dair well enough?

Oh.

Well, if there was no landing and starting lag, would Dair be a good approach? I am just speaking theorectically here, mostly questioning Dair's priority rather than actual use.

Is it just me, or is dair one of sheiks higher priority attacks?

It's decent priority. I find myself using dair in situations when I need to do something from the ledge, because the pause in the air throws off the timing of several ledge pressure attempts.

From what I've experience it does have a decent amount of priority and the range of the attack it self can out range a fair number of attacks so at times it can be used as aggressive means to protect yourself from below attackers. Although it can do this is shouldn’t be spam as the landing lag of the attack it self is so great missing can mean getting hit by a smash attack.

and yes the Dair could of been good like back in Melee since it had no extreme start up lag and with L canceling it could even be rarely used to combo.

This is greatly shown in the combo video "Glitch" at 4:15

Although outside of that it has always been Sheik most useless aerial.

USE IT TO RECOVER and if you're floating and against snake, for god sakes use it to get back on stage or else he's got his little toys set everywhere in the time your floating like mary poppins.

If you're in the top right or left part of the screen then it can give you an extra boost towards the ledge.
