It’s a step in the right direction, but the fact that you need to locally connect to share and swap games, and only being able to do it one at a time per console, makes it feel like that step also had a Lego piece under their foot.

That Nintendo Switch Direct...

The only things that I really got excited for were Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A and Tomodachi Life.

Direct thoughts

• I’m probably the only person who thinks these dragon quest remakes look awful. They look like those sprite dioramas you can buy.
• A game about AI is NOT gonna go over well anymore lol.
• Raidou remastered? That’s pretty cool. I’m picking that up.
• Oh that weird PAC-Man thing. It’s interesting. I might have to pick that up.
• wait isn’t Patapon a Sony property? That’s neat.
• A new Story of Seasons remaster? Can’t wait for the PBG video.
• Glad for people who like the idea of first person Metroid with even less player guidance than super but it’s not for me. The story looks weird though. I predict this game being a Metroid timeline split.
• Disney villain pokemon cafe? Why?
• Harry Potter shaped a generation of kids into thinking that magic school was actually a cool idea. It is not. Please stop.
• Ooo I’m getting the eternal life of goldman just for the art.
• Gradius. Not the arcade games I was hoping for. But still cool.
• necrodancer guitar hero? Ok. Celeste pack is cool though.
• Tamagotchi game? Neat. As long as my switch doesn’t demand I feed them at midnight or they die.
• Oh. Surprised to see any ZA stuff here. Still don’t know how I feel about a Pokemon game set entirely in a city. And still no gym challenge plot line. Just a weird tournament subplot.
• Is this Rhythm Heaven? Oh that’s cool. Finally getting that on here.
• Ok the virtual game card system feels like an overly complicated version of a system we already have. Like we can download any game we want already if we sign into our account. This is already a thing we can do. So why are we doing this now? Will I suddenly not be able to have all the games I already have installed installed? What is this changing?
• Saga remaster is cool. Always welcome more remasters and ports.
• Monument Valley… this is for someone but that someone isn’t me.
• Wait that’s TWO obscure Sony properties on Switch now. Everybody’s Golf is a first party Sony thing. WTF is going on!?!
• A marvel retro beat em up. I guess that makes sense, they actually had games like this back then, but I was really hoping for a DC version of this concept. Still want that. Marvel isn’t really my thing anymore.
• Tomodachi Life. They dun done it. Glad they finally did it. Oh it’s a sequel. Makes sense. That Mii wants to be stepped on.
• Ooo Miyamoto. His English vo still sounds like Artsy Omni.
• Nintendo news app… guess I gotta get this. Kinda weird. Guess they’re gonna be using this instead of Twitter now.
• Really, no NSO games

7/10 direct.

Looking forward to the Marvel version of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. They mentioned that there were 15 playable characters, so I'm curious to see who they are. (I've gotten back into ripping sprites recently, and I'm willing to try getting back into MUGEN again)

Going by the trailer, I saw Nova (Richard), Captain America (Steve), Quasar (Phyla-Vell), Spider-Man (Peter), Wolverine (Logan), Venom (Eddie?), and Storm, so that's about half of the playable roster. I'm hoping that at least one member of the Fantastic Four is in there.

(I'm not sure if it's taking inspiration from Annihilation or not; if it is, then I feel like Star-Lord, Rocket, Gamora, and/or Drax will be playable. I'd be surprised if Iron Man isn't playable)

Well, they showed Prime 4 and I got a new Marvel game I wanted to exist but didn't think it would. Curious who else will be in it. You'd think Hulk and Iron Man are locks, but I dunno. There's also Cyclops, Magneto, Black Panther Blade, A TON of options. Maybe Scarlet Witch or Psylocke too.
