Then you can jump away, fast fall air dodge to the ground away from the tank and go to the edge or something.

Right, but if it was simply an item like the rest, then the update would be placed under the items tab as opposed as "How to Play."
Final Smash is placed under Smash 101. If anything, this simply denotes that the Final Smash is an element of the game, if anything, like the necessity of recovering. It's not even listed under techniques.

Within the element of Final Smashes, the Smash Ball is an item that pertains to them in an intimate way, such that without the item, the Final Smash would not exist. Stop rationalizing this path of reasoning into a statement that Smash Balls are a technique.

The fact is. The Smash Ball is an item. Just because it hasn't shown up in the items section doesn't mean it's not. It acts like any item, and thus it will be treated like any item by the game.

True.

See? Its not so difficult to avoid FS's. Unless you were really big and/or slow. Then the tank could shoot you or run you over before you get to the edge. But if you are playing a big and/or slow character against Fox, you were probably going to lose anyway. It wouldn't be easy, at least.

So who wants to make Brawl Melee 2.0? :p

Final Smashes are what make Brawl, Brawl. Turning the them off would make it a Melee 2.0. Saying otherwise makes you a tournament junkie who would rather ruin the fun for all because you in a minority for which is very, very sad.

I've only ever played in a few tournaments, and they were never for any big prizes, and were never that competitive. I've never won. Mostly I just play with friends.

I want the ability to turn Smash Balls off.

Huh! Guess I'm a tournament junkie after all.

Christ on a cracker. Who is ruining YOUR fun? Honestly. If people wanna turn all of the items off, what is it to you? All I ever see out of your bloody posts is a lame-*** complaint about tourney-goers. If you wanna play with items and ****, go ahead. Don't go around and ***** about how people prefer to play a game.

At any rate, how would turning all of the items off make it Melee 2.0? In case you haven't read Gimpy's impressions of the E 4 All demo, Brawl is already radically different from both Melee and SSB64 mechanics-wise. So, in essence, Brawl is not Melee 2.0 simply because of that fact alone.

So it's you again is it? Turning them off wouldn't make it Melee 2.0. It would remove one possibly unbalancing aspect of the game. The game is too different to make it Melee 2.0 already. The fact that the whole air dodge mechanic has changed already took care of that.

I agree.

The way I'm going to play Brawl is traditional tourney rules, but with Smash balls. Even if tourneys end up cutting Smash balls out. I don't care, I don't want to lose such awesome attacks. 4 stock, 8 minutes, no items, smash balls, certain stages banned. It shall be glorious.

Pit, Meta Knight, Pokemon Trainer, Snake, Zero Suit Samus, King Dedede, Diddy Kong, Ike, Lucas, Wario, and Sonic are in the game too. So no, even with Smash balls off, it wouldn't be "Melee 2.0".

It would be somewhat familiar. Notice I used SOMEWHAT. Seriously, Final Smashes are what make Brawl special and unique to all the other smash bros games. To take it away would destroy that individuality.

But you can turn that off. So it's got an auto-inviduality-self-destruct switch built right in. Cool huh?

Oh, yes. And you are the voice of nonconformity everywhere. GTFO.

There's plenty of uniqueness to go around, whether you play with items or you don't play with items. You just choose to filter out one half of the equation---WHICH IS FINE, if I may add. I just don't think it's fair that you poke fun of the tourney-goers at every turn.

Play the game however the hell you want to. Nobody is stopping you. Just don't step on somebody's toes while doing it.

No. Its not. I am suspecting you can't even turn them off anyways.
I think Final Smashes are a cool addition to the game. However, due to the fact that they are items, I beleive they will have the option of being turned off. That, and not everyone will want to play with them all the time.

Yeah, but that's just one out of like 10, 15? Something like that. Not a good ratio.
QFT.

Now, let's compare FS's shall we?

Sakurai said that this was a "modest" transformation, am I right? Now, tell me how a "modest" transformation stacks up against something like...

I dunno...

...this?!

Let's face it, kiddies. Fat dudes in spandex do not beat out ultra-powerful psychics that can rain energy down from the sky.

If I had to bet as to which FS would be more useful in a pinch, I'd bet my bottom dollar on Lucas's.

Wario's FS is really making the case for the new FS tourney format. It's pretty much all skill and not alot of OMG the ownage lasers are coming.
Your right. You know, I never thought of the FS as a technique...but it's kind of starting to make sense. Think about DK's. From what we've heard, it sucks pretty bad. I would assume that you could make it good, though.

But I think it's agreed that some do own pretty bad.

dude, your logic is epic fail. Even if it isn't in the item switch(which granted, it may not be) it will be a seperate option, like stck vs. time mode. Sakurai is not an idiot, he dosen't follow your crappy+flawed+******** methods.

HOWEVER this is not to say FSs will be for sure turned off in tournaments, we will ahve to test their balance ourselves, though many will just go straight to turning them off; which is unfortunate.

Its a MONTAGE!!!!
i agree that the smash ball would make things more interesting however froma competitive stand point i dont think it would be included, its just to random from were it appears, how it moves acrross the stage, to who does what.... so no i dont see the smash bll in competitve play... and yes there has to be a way to turn it off just like the regular items... i dont see any possible reason why to leave tht option out financially or other wise

1. We already have enough topics on FS', inclusing this sort of discussion.

2. Sakurai himself said it is an Item, and therefor, until it is proved otherwise, it is classed as an item. It's similar to the Super Mushroom or Star as item types would go, but it is still an item.
