Hmm...if a sports moveset is unoriginal for Daisy, then what kind of moveset would be good for her?
Daisy is best defined by her sports prowess (hence her spin-off career) and would seem like the only thing for her, at the moment; unless you wanna incorporate her flower powers into her moveset to better differentiate herself from other characters like Peach, and Wii Fit Trainer.
Sakurai and the Smash Development Team are creative, and with that said, I'm pretty sure ANY character has moveset potential. They could even give a rock a moveset as far as I'm concerned, much less, Daisy and Waluigi. And I wouldn't mind if Daisy has a sports moveset that would actually define her character, instead of being just another vanilla character with a vanilla moveset, and furthermore, Daisy with a sports moveset would probably be as original as Lucina and Dark Pit.
One reason I wouldn't like Daisy having a sports-based moveset is that I don't want the idea perpetuated that Daisy only belongs in the spin-offs. I think most (if not all) Daisy fans truly want her to shine in either a game in which she's the star, or in a mainline Mario game. She's been a handy and fun regular in the spin-offs, but she really has so much more potential.
So what would her moveset be like if not sports-based?
Personally, I think she would work great as a semi-clone of Peach, akin to the way Luigi is to Mario. The reasons for this are fairly clear: Daisy was first introduced as another damsel in distress, replacing Peach in that context. When she was brought back for Mario Tennis, she was portrayed as Peach's partner, just like Mario and Luigi are partners. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, her first Mario Kart appearance, she was again Peach's partner and they both have the same weight and use the same special item, as well as sharing kart designs. They both have been depicted with parasols. The list goes on and on...of course she's not a carbon copy of Peach, just like Luigi (no longer) is of Mario, but that doesn't mean she's not similar enough to be a semi-clone.
What does make her stand apart from Peach is her more competitive and energetic personality, though as someone pointed out earlier, all of the Mario characters are (extremely) athletic so you can't really say she's more athletic than Peach. Also her affinity for flowers is noteworthy. Combining these differences with maybe some inspiration from Super Mario Land, her debut game, and MAYBE some sports references, Daisy would make an easy semi-clone.
Oh, I might as well give an example:
Standard Attacks:
Here are the ones that could definitely be different, but overall her movements are less 'girly' and more aggressive/acrobatic: Side Smash: Similar to Peach's swings, but Daisy swings a bat instead of a frying pan. Down Smash: Instead of using her dress, Daisy performs a sweeping kick. Dash Attack: Daisy's dash attack is a more physical attack Up Tilt: At least make this a flower effect instead of the hearts
Special Attacks: Neutral Special: Super Ball - similar to Mario's fireball, except she tosses a solid-looking ball that bounces a few times off of anything; this originates from the Super Flower power-up from Super Mario Land Side Special: Daisy Strike - similar to Peach Bomber, Daisy twirls and lunges forward, but it would actually look more similar to Little Mac's Jolt Haymaker, because she would rise a little and punch, like she did in Mario Strikers. (Alternatively, this move could just be Peach's custom move "Flower Bomber", because flowers) Up Special: Daisy Parasol - functions similarly to Peach's custom move "Light Parasol", granting more horizontal recovery--this is especially because Daisy cannot float like Peach can Down Special: (Some flower-based move) - I can't decide what exactly. Take your pick. Alternatively, she could throw a Bombshell Koopa, which would have a delayed explosion.
Final Smash: Could either be a giant flower-based attack, or the Crystal Smash from Mario Strikers, or maybe she flies around in the Sky Pop and fires missiles at fighters.
Taunts:
Up Taunt: waves and says "Hi I'm Daisy!"
Side Taunt: does some fist pumping and says something like "Yeah yeah yeah!" or "All right!"
Down Taunt: does the "Hot Stuff" sizzle thing from Mario Strikers
Overall, Daisy would be slightly faster and harder-hitting than Peach, losing some of Peach's defensive options.

I was thinking up special: Flowerbud Return and side special: Torpedo Strike (she starts in a similar way to Peach but charges with her knee, if it hits she'll then perform a upwards kick that has high knockback, but moderate ending lag).
Whoops, haven't been here in a while. For some reason I stopped getting notifications and my mind registered that as "no one is posting" instead of telling me to check... Oh well!
For starters I think that the K. Rool costume doesn't mean much. It doesn't totally de-confirm him but at the same time it's not exactly a great sign or anything, yknow? Personally I'm glad it happened; I like the costume and I think it reminds everyone that anything can happen in the ballot. I really want to be surprised by the winners and as much as I'd like K. Rool (Or any DK rep, preferably Dixie) I wasn't rooting for him because I thought it would be a pretty boring result... Now if he wins I think I'll appreciate him more!
In regards to Daisy I don't think the mii hat that's currently in smash means literally anything. A lot of those hats are just ones from streetpass, including the Daisy one. There could totally be a Daisy costume (though I don't personally think there will be), and if there was one I really think they'd figure out a way to make the dress work. I just think there's no way they'd use her other outfits if it was a mii costume. After all, I think she's most iconic in the dress.
Most people also want her to be really sports and spin-off related, which of course I understand but don't entirely agree with. Having some nods to those series would be cool but I wouldn't want her to use them exclusively. I think she could have some cool new unique moves! I also want to say that I actually really really dislike peach's smash design? I know it's super popular but I just prefer her normal design. It's just so simple and cartoon-y and I just adore it! Especially the big puffy dress! I don't like how smash changed that and tries to make it look more real, even if it is necessary for whatever reason. I'll always prefer her simple, regular design.
Daisy semi-clone moveset?
I agree Daisy as a Mage (slow but powerful) with flower attributes or as a sports equipment carrier wouldn't work.
An athletic or almost cheerleader-like version of Peach's moveset with flower attributes would be a great compromis.
I'll show what I mean, beginning with aerials:
Neutral Aerial:
Peach's is a multihit twirl.
Daisy's would be a burst of energy by stretching her arms diagonally upwards while spinning once.
Forward Aerial:
Peach's is a slap with a crown
Daisy's would be an outright slam dunk with her crown (look at Mii Brawler's Head-Ache Maker for an idea)
Back Aerial:
Peach's is the Butt Bump
Daisy's would be a mix of this and Lightning Kick.
Maybe add a Flower Effect here.
Up Aerial:
Peach's is the Rainbow Swipe
Daisy's would be a blast of flower energy or a double punch that spreads out in a rainbow-pattern (but no actual rainbow)
Though a clap would work too.
Down Aerial:
Peach's is a multihit kick.
Daisy's would be a single meteor smash kick
I believe Specials would be unique.
Maybe clone the Parasol and give Daisy a Flower Glider.
I'd give her these Specials:
Neutral B
Side B:
Our resident Spin-Off reference, Daisy jumps forwards, hitting opponents and nullifying projectiles with a tennis racket.
Flowers appear where she lands.
Up B:
Flower Glider
Down B:
Smashes can mostly be cloned, with tweaks:
Forward Smash:
Wonder Flower's Tennis Racket Smash, different knockback angles depending on Petal Color.
Up Smash:
One big explosion of Flower Magic
Down Smash:
Zelda's DSmash
Normals are relatively easy
Jab:
Punches
Forward Tilt:
Roundhouse kick
Up Tilt:
Uppercuts as if it was a cheerleader trick, facing the camera
"so why isnt she in brawl yet??" Based on the comment it's probably sometime before "Super Smash Bros for 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros for WiiU".
((I was arguing whether to write sm4sh or smash4 and then I as just like "let's just go balls to the wall crazy and write the whole thing!" Remember, sometimes you have to live life on the edge.))

I am the odd one out when choosing which outfit I want Daisy to wear for Smash. Everyone really wants Daisy in her sports outfit, her golf dress, or her striker armor, but i mostly want her in the dress.
After seeing how beautiful and flowy Peach and Rosalina look in their Smash dresses, I really want to see Daisy in her ballgown as well. It looks pretty and I really like the Daisy coloration of Peach's dress. Imagine if it was the real Daisy in that dress. Gorgeous! And besides, it's her main outfit.
But then again, she does look quite stylish and agile in her sports outfit, her golf dress, and her striker armor as well.
Anyway, as long as she gets int!
Oh and I am sooo happy about Daisy's recent trademarking in the Virtual Console Mario Tennis 64 listing on the Nintendo website (fyi it was released on July 9, 2015 which is pretty damn recent). I didn't think trademarkings meant much, but when King K. Rool's recent trademarking caused quite a hullabaloo, I guess that means Daisy's recent trademarking is significant as well.

Yeah, I guess it would further increase her impression as a so-called "Peach clone" and also won't fully show off her tomboyish nature. And also it might be a bit confusing to distinguish Peach in her Daisy colors from Daisy when fighting in the same match. But then again, one has blatantly longer hair than the other so maybe it won't be too difficult.

To be honest that would make distinguishing a bit hard as well since both are blonde and both would have pink dresses but like I said, Daisy has shorter hair.
And besides, I think Daisy would look totally funny and cute in her Peach palette. I'd main both her regular color and Peach color.

Oy... We had months to discuss all of this prior to the final charts being made way prior to Smash 3DS's launch. Midna and Daisy were each not put on the chart for reasons of not enough support and/or too much detraction to seem feasible. Again, months of debate from various users decided this.
Come around again for Smash 5. There might be grounds to argue for putting them on the chart by then.
Well that seems pretty dumb, but it's hard to argue against it when I had no involvement whatsoever. Still, I wonder why she's so much more popular now? Maybe it's because of other Daisy fans campaigning? I know that I wasn't a Daisy supporter pre-launch. Back then when I was making dream rosters, sometimes I'd put Daisy down as a "why not, I wouldn't mind, I like her." in order to flesh it out. It wasn't until DLC ballot that I was like full team Daisy.
Thanks! It's a picture I found on Tumblr where Dais's Mario Party 8 artwork is redrawn to resemble a Mario Party 10 artwork.

Nonexistent or minimal, mostly because we were at the point where not another Mario character after Rosalina would happen with the game's launch coming near. Once we saw the ESRB Leak with Junior and heard about the Alph and Koopaling outfits, we would settle on an alt since we thought DLC wasn't a guarantee.
My idea (with picture):
1) Regular yellow
2) Peach pink
3) Turquoise (bluish green)
4) Mocha or brownish
5) Wedding white
6) Fire Flower
7) Gameboy throwback
8) Black n' gold

Now that I take a look into the Fantendo Smash ideas, many of the rosters seem to avoid Daisy altogether. Either it's because of her lack of importance or they feel that Waluigi would do a better job at repping the Mario spinoffs (I do like WAAAAAAA though). One idea in particular Super 5mash Bros 5 gives her the "Chrom treatment" with Captain Toad as the only Mario newcomer (plus Yoshi's Kamek).
Super Smash Bros Universe (One by our favorite neighborhood @Thatkidwiththeafro) and Jake's Super Smash Bros. are the few game ideas that even have her from what I've seen.

I know that it's a matter of personal opinion, but I can't help but feel that they don't think outside the box with Daisy, just as they do think outside the box with Wally.

Because of the same reasons why they feel he's a better choice, he's the Mr. Mario Sportsman unlike Daisy. And some might say there's not much that can be done with her that's different other than using outdated Super Mario Land references (which is something I highly disagree with).
Then there's the crowd who feels that Lip would be a better idea of a flower mage since she's "the Flower Fairy" after all. Overall, Fantendo has some pretty mixed opinions on her being in Smash.

I don't get why Waluigi gets so much attention tbh. I mean I like Waluigi but Daisy is just as good as him. Also, I'm sorry but it really annoys me when people label Waluigi as apart of the Wario series. He has like (and correct me if I'm wrong here) literally never appeared in a Wario game. Saying he's a wario character is like saying Birdo is a Yoshi character. They may go as a pair but they only ever appear together in Mario spin off games! (Birdo's probably more of a Wario character as well, she's appeared in Wario's Woods)
Anyway, ignoring that irrelevant train of though; I still think Daisy is just as interesting as Waluigi. (well actually more interesting but whatevs) The logic behind Lip fans makes sense in that Lip would be an obvious flower mage choice but at the same time Daisy is literally all about flowers as well. Lip might be a "flower fairy" but Daisy's name is literally a flower? Their logic applies to Daisy just as well. On top of that Daisy has plenty of options, nobody said she HAD to use flower mage-like moves, and EVEN THEN it's not like smash already has like a million sword fighters or anything.
The sad thing is, Daisy is more relevant than Waluigi yet she hasn't even shown up in Smash at all. I'm just going to hope that means Nintendo has bigger plans for her than an assist trophy

The reason some want Wally in the Wario series is because he is the only character who he has any real connection to, not including his rivalry with Luigi( and that "crush" on Daisy doesn't count), and as for the swordsman argument people are gonna go: "But they are all unique and relevant! Daisy is not!" (Looks at Lucina, Toon Link and to a lesser extent Roy..).
