And really you just need to consult the official wanted poll for characters, Ridley is top 5, Waluigi isn't even near him.

I find it kind of hard to believe that the only unlockables we're ever getting in the game are almost every other veteran we haven't seen yet, some obscure character that's infamous for being hated, a character from a franchise with more than enough characters, and a pair of clones/semi clones.

Then again, that's exactly what Sakurai did for Brawl. /

Waluigi is in almost every Mario spinoff, including Mario Kart which outsold Metroid as a whole.

Waluigi is in pretty much every Mario spin-off.
Mario Kart itself has sold more than the entire Metroid franchise.

Mega Man 2 is on 3DS and Wii U Virtual Console. Other M is only on Wii.
Waluigi is way more popular than Ridley. He's one of the most famous Mario characters, and Mario is waaaay more popular than Metroid.

Ridley would be unique and a good candidate even if he wasn't as highly requested for Smash, and Metroid is in much needed love for a new rep, all we have at the moment is Samus and Samus without her armour. I know I said to ignore you but this is my last response.

No it's not everything, but it's something. Smash Bros wise Ridley is one of the most highly requested characters here in America. That can't be denied. We've already gotten several highly requested characters confirmed already. So fan demand IS a thing. Again, I'm not talking about worldwide popularity because since Waluigi is from Mario of course people will know him. Mario is much more known than Metroid, and Mario caters to many more gamers in general. I'm talking about SMASH popularity. Sure, not everyone gets in, and hell, Ridley is in the game in one way or another. Metroid is in need of another rep. All we have is Samus, and Ridley is the only other choice at this point. You can argue Ridley is as important to Metroid as Samus, since Ridley is what created Samus.

I can understand Mario spin off game can out sold most of ninteno franchise in general, but Mario got too many content already. Remember Smash should be a game to know each franchise in nintendo and its history? Mario franchise is getting too much content that we can call Super Mario smash brothers rather than Super Smash Brothers.

I have numbers. The Metroid series has sold around 20m units, Mario Kart has sold over 100m units, and Mario Party has sold around 40m units.

According to Wikipedia the Mario Party franchise has sold 32 million games, Metroid has sold 17.44 million games.

It's still Wikipedia to don't take it as a solid number but yeah it appears Mario Party is more commercially successful compared to Metroid. I should also point out that other franchises more successful than Metroid include Midnight Club, J.B. Harold, Petz and Ubisoft's Imagine series.

Don't bother, Mario Kart is nintendos most popular franchise, it sells better than smash, mario or zelda.

The way I see it ridley does have smash popularity going for him, which has worked out for other characters who have been included in smash 4. However he has relevance working against him which is prob more important, and of course it's been hinted at that he's a boss

I cant wait for the Shulk Mario Kart expansion pack. If hes in smash, I guess its a requirement hes also im Mario Kart. Because afterall, no character that isnt in Mario Kart is in smash. Im already feeling it.

All-star mode can be played anytime and not everyone is unlocked. (Once the lock icon is gone you unlocked every character in the game.)

Popularity counts for a lot for getting franchises into Smash, but for getting characters in, they need to be important to thier franchise and they need to be good representations of their franchise.
