Important The Ridley for SSB4 Thread - End of an Era

The main issue people have with Ghirahim is he's made 1 appearance, 1!!. So having him over ANY other Zelda character wouldn't make sense, and it would be insulting to people who want Zelda reps who have more of a presence or importance in the games. Though this isn't the thread to be talking about him. Call me a hypocrite but I couldn't leave that straw man standing.

I have not played much Four Swords nor have I finished Minish Cap, yet I feel that Vaati is the second-most deserving Zelda newcomer.

I'm just glad that Metroid doesn't have this problem of too many potential characters.

Shiek had one appearance before her appearance in melee, I'm pretty sure.

She wasn't even as major a character in her game as Ghirahim was in skyward sword. (note that I haven't played either of those games so that opinion might not hold up)

I'll say she was a more integral character to the game than Sheik was. My argument only really works if you treat them as separate. Sheik specifically didn't have a huge impact on the game(from my admittedly limited knowledge).

Funny you should mention that, Ridley seems like evolution in reverse, some of the smaller Dinosaurs apparently started to evolve feathers over time which replaced their scales, as they had a tendency to jump between trees and the ones with the more feather like scales were more successful at breeding I assume. Going off topic again, but thanks for bringing that up, never thought about Ridley like that.

Yeah, I would doubt Ridley even exists in Smash if we had not seen the shadow in the Direct. Not a single frame of evidence outside that 11~ second clip! It's like having intestines removed!

Speaking of which, if this hasn't been brought up before, how would this thread currently hold up if Sakurai had never teased Ridley with his shadow, let alone that PotD reveal of Pyrosphere? I mean, it's brought a lot of speculation and life to this thread, no? I wonder if this thread would even be past 1,000 pages if Ridley wasn't shown or hinted this whole time.

Well, bosses may appear on the 3DS. It hasn't been counted out. We don't really know what the hell Dark Emperor is doing. We definitely don't know all the 3DS stages. But if Ridley were a boss, he'd be exclusive to the Pyrosphere, meaning he's unique to the Wii U version.

I still find it very odd how he always clears up the confusion surrounding characters but neglects doing so in Ridley's case. It's just so inconsistent.

He only disconfirmed gliding for Pit. We have yet to hear if Charizard will retain this mechanic, or if Meta Knight will return with it.

I wouldn't mind if the gliding mechanic was made exclusive for Ridley.

It depends on how the fly mechanic works, ey. I mean, if it's a special mechanic, it'll probably be activated one way or another, and unless this activation method is dashing Ridley will still need a running animation of some sort. A flying running animation could do, but I feel that might be a bit too fast for a character that is air-based and is supposed to be the Little Mac of the air.
Assuming Ridley will be that.

I'm getting the idea that gliding was removed to put the flying mechanic in its space, just to keep things consistent and avoid raising questions as to why Ridley doesn't have glide.

EDIT: then again, that creates a whole new consistency issue as to why other winged characters dont fly

Can't remember exactly where it was said but I remember Sakurai mentioning it, if it's going to be given to a certain purple space Dragon is another question.

This I doubt. Gliding is way too restrictive in terms of mobility for a character like Ridley.
