Up and down the produce aisle!

This is where to talk about all the odd and wonderful characters that dont really fit into the mold of the actual quest line. These are the everyday heroes of Zelda that live their lives outside of the limitations of the three main characters! People like the Syrup the witch, smiling windmill man, Fyer the ****** sad clown, Hand that lives in the toilet, and yes even Tingle (I know that Tingle had his own game, but since only one person in SWF has ever played it, he only really counts as a normal character.)

I noticed that things in the "Things that you love/hate about Zelda" thread was being bombarded with discussions about certain characters (Mostly Tingle) and felt as if it would be better for that thread and the forum to just have one big thread about the middle men and women.

I suppose there isnt much to talk about when it comes to most of the characters in Zelda due to there being little reason for them to even be around, but it would be interesting to see what people say about their favorite characters.

Yeah... We definitely talked about some characters in the "Things that you love/hate about Zelda" thread.

That's a good thread, but I don't know if Skyler Ocon will lock this (I hope he doesn't lock this).

Well, talking about the other characters...
I thought the Ilia's story a little bit weird. I didn't understand almost everything between Illia and Link and when she recovers her memory, she still remains at Renado's House for some reason.

Nice Idea dude. ;)

Yeah, I've always wondered why she never leaves back to Ordon. I guess she can't without a horse and cart, but why doesn't Link just carry her home on Epona? It never explains if they're just close friends or if they're in love or not, either.

Well, when is it ever NOT confusing? The only "Love" intrests in any Zelda games have been through Anju and Kaffe and Telma and the Shaman (This is more like a creepy lusty thing than anything, but it still counts.) They have always enticed the masses by making us "Believe" Link has a sweet heart, but it always ends in a sickly disappointing outcome.

Ilia was only there as a catalyst for Link to start the quest. It is more of a question of did he set out to save Ilia or save the kids.

I think that question can be answered - he set out to save both Ilia and the kids.

I really didn't like the situation with the kids and Ilia and all that junk. They all felt so insignificant in the game, even Ilia. Throughout my first playthrough, I forgot she existed, and it was only when the plot would go back to her and her lost memory that I too realized that I had lost my memory of her. I was like, "oh yeah, she's still a focal point... this sucks." The kids didn't both me as much, especially Malo. He's a very memorable and interesting character. I'd love to see a game based some 40 years after TP where he's an entrepeneuer in Hyrule and has his own chain of shops where you can buy useful items at high prices.

I started discussion about Falbi and Fyer in the other thread regarding what we like/dislike in the series, but I don't think much more can be said about them other than they, along with Purlo, are obvious nods to Tingle.

The obscure characters like them, the Happy Mask Salesman, Guru-Guru, the bald, pale punk under the tree in Kakariko, and Tingle himself are incredible additions to the series. I couldn't play the games happily without the weirdos.

That's a good thought.

I tried to talk with her father (The Mayor of Ordon) and nothing happened.

I tried many things to get some clues about that.

About Love...
When I played the game for the first time, I always thought that Link and Ilia had something special among them. It's kinda confusing.

Alright, I can base this huge theory on this agenda really quick.

First off, the kids are apparent in the tutorial parts of the level, but what essentially they become are an agenda for Link to look after. He's grown up with these kids for most of his life, so there's a strong connection to be the figure for them to become. The fact they are ignored is because Link has a greater sense of duty. Once he knows he's become the next heroic figure set to save Hyrule, his duties lie elsewhere. BUT, and this is a biggie, the story to set him off on his heroic adventure was to save the friends he grew up with. That's why he set off out of Ordon and why he was willing to follow Midna in everything she asked him to do (if you remember the first cutscene with Midna, where she transforms into Ilia and Colin to get his attention set on trusting her to get out).

Upon entering Kakariko Village, his duty was to protect the children first. As soon as Epona was his, and Colin was taken away, he made sure he rescued Colin. So it's not essentially they were a small bit role. In fact, each kid set him up on a greater journey. If it wasn't for them, he would not of known the monkeys and they would not of helped him in the Forest Temple. If it wasn't for the kids, then the feud between the Gorons and the shaman would of been ever present because Link would not of known if they were not found. If it wasn't for Ilia losing her memory, Link would of never met the Zoras, never would of gotten the Zora Tunic upon escorting them to Kakariko Village, and therefore Link would of never gotten any of the Fused Shadow. Plus, without the loss of Ilia's memory, the Hidden Village would still be hidden away, and the Dominion Rod would never have been awakened again. Along with this, Rusl might never of set out to try and find them, to work with his old group, and Link would not of been able to access the Temple of Time in the Lost Woods. Despite what seems like a small part, the children played a bigger role than we thought, getting Link access to more than half the dungeons.

Now, with the so-said "love interest" between Ilia and Link. I think, no matter who you are, if you grew up with someone for the majority of your life, you are bound to develop a very close bond with them. And considering they are of opposite genders, then OF COURSE there's gonna be a connection, especially with them being at the height of their teenage years, ripe with...well, you know. But when Link set out, I think upon meeting the Princess, he probably felt they had another close bond, but one based upon the Triforce and their past versions of themselves. So in a sense, Link had a connection with more than one person in the game, both on a personal level and a historical level.

Lastly, to comment, the children never left Kakariko Village because Hyrule Field was swarming with monsters, and without any sort of protection, they had no chance in getting back to Ordon Village, so it was up to Link to make it safe so they could.

Now you tell me they had no role in the game!

And I agree with bry. I bet, in some future game, Link and Zelda will develop a bond that will actually connect them to their feelings of love.

Now, as far as extra characters go, I like the wide variety we are given, both in human species and in the other denizens of Hyrule. I think my favorites are the six sages in Ocarina of Time, but all the denizens you help in Majora's Mask are also a fun way to waste time in the game.

Yeah.. the kids and Ilia didn't receive importance, except Malo. As you said, he's is a very memorable and interesting character. I liked a lot to help him with his plans to make his own shop in Hyrule Castle. It was really funny.

link can only love zelda!!!!!
The Game doesn't give importance to this Love, IMO.

In Twilight Princess, Link and Zelda found themselves 2 times. First Time, Link as Wolf (I don't count this as a real encounter) and the Second Time, Link as the true Hero in the final of the game.

In Ocarina of Time, Link and Zelda found themselves more frequently. I thought really interesting that Link and Zelda found themselves during childhood and later as adults. Also, Link found Sheik many times. The Love of them received importance.

The next LoZ could give much more importance about the love between Link and Zelda.

What's good about Malo is his importance is completely for side quests and not the actual game.

Man, Another thing that made me very sad is the fact that we can't fight the Gorons through Sumo Battles. Would be really nice if we could fight Darbus, The Patriarch and the Goron Elders.

I would really like to fight the Gor Liggs who is my favorite Goron. Would be nice if we could fight the Mayor of Ordon Village more times too.

That too was one of my pet peeves. There the Gorons sit high in their mountain, with their whole lifestyle now revolving around Sumo wrestling (The only room in the Goron "city" was a giant sumo ring!) And they dont even sumo?! What kind of lie are they living?

It would be great, like in MM where you can race as many times as you like in the Goron races... but no. No, they teach you all the rules of Sumo, and you only need to use it once and never again do you get the opportunity.

And it's a shame too, because I love Sumo wrestling. I watch it on ESPN 2 all the time.

I agree with you.

I thought really weird. You just learn the Sumo rules to acquire the Iron Boots and to gain acess to the Goron Mines.

So... Learn the Sumo rules is completely unecessary, Imo. But we have to learn to clear the game.

Would be really EPIC if Twilight Princess could have a Sumo Championship between Link and all Gorons.

I love ESPN too.:bee:

The king of red lions from the Wind Waker was a pretty awesome character imo.

I remember when I first saw him speak, I immediately thought "Ok some random talking boat... Whoopdie do." But once you learned of his significance, my thoughts completely changed about him.

The part at the end of the game where Link is underwater and he's reaching for the king to grab his hand was a sad moment for me to watch. I was also left with a very empty feeling when Link sails off w/ the pirate gang, but the boat's eyes were closed.

Yeah I know. When I think back on it it is really sad.

But the first time I saw it, I thought it was really amusing that Link was sailing around on the King's dead boat carcass.

Now it isnt funny anymore... :(

About Rusl, Shad, Auru and Ashei.

Where did they go after helping Link in Hyrule Castle ?
It's possible to find them in the Castle ?

Another thing,
The Ghosts that you see in the Hyrule Castle are the souls of the Soldiers who were killed by Zant ?

I loved how all the seemingly random characters in OoT had a much bigger role in MM. The Happy Mask Salesman was one of the main components of MM, but he played a minor role in OoT. The cucco lady in Kakariko Village turned out to be Anju in MM. Ruto played a big role in OoT and she kinda reappeared in MM as Lulu. Most of my favorite characters were in MM. I loved the random hand in the toilet. It was a major wtf moment for me. I also loved summoning Keaton. Gotta love those three-tailed foxes. I enjoyed shooting Tingle down and watching him remain suspended in midair for a few seconds before falling. The random characters that I love just added randomness, comedy, and spice to the Zelda games.
