Just a few quick thoughts... Would love to hear your reactions and answers.

  1. When Wind Waker gets added, it will probably be given Wind Waker and Wind Waker HD sections. I don't remember any difference in soundtrack like Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 64 DS have.
  2. Similarly, when Twilight Princess gets added, it will be our first game (and maybe only game) to be on three systems: GameCube, Wii and Wii U.
  3. While we know Wind Waker will eventually end the drought for the Gamecube, we still don't have any new additions for the NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance. We also still don't have anything for the 3DS.
  4. What games do you think will break the drought for those four systems. Why do you think those four systems haven't received anything since launch?
  5. What will be the Wii U's first non port addition? I think Splatoon, Nintendoland and Star Fox Zero could be possible additions.

1. Apparently the Wind Waker HD soundtrack is different, not music wise, but sound quality wise. Since it’s a matter of quality, perhaps we’ll still get both counted as one.
2. On the topic of Twilight Princess, I wonder if they’ll include the two orchestral pieces. One of them was featured in the Nintendo Power CD, the other was on the website.
3 and 4. The games I think will break the draught for NES, Game Boy, GBA, and 3DS are as follows:
NES: Either Mario 3, a Zelda game, or Kirby’s Adventure.
Game Boy: Alleyway
Game Boy Advance: Wario Ware Inc. Mega Microgames. Actually I want all the Wario Ware games here.
3DS: Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus Uprising, Cose Name S.T.E.A.M., Ever Oasis, System Music
5. For original Wii U games, here's what I would want:
Nintendo Land, Pushmo World, NES Remix 2 (the majority of the soundtrack is recycled from NES Remix 1, but there are a few remixes of NES songs included such as a snowy remix of the Mario Ground theme), System Music (would also include music for the Wii to Wii U system transfer, and the music for the Wii U to Wii U system transfer (if they do the later, Nintendo needs to explain who the not-Pikmin doing the transfer are)).

I actually thought Wind Waker HD was orchestrated. I can tell the difference anyway, I think the miniboss theme is where it's most notable

So uh...

The update seems to be late.

Perhaps they're taking a break for the holidays?

Now that 2024 is wrapped up, I have a fun little hypothetical to gage people's opinion of the current selection of songs.

You're going on a super long road trip (or plane ride/cruise/whatever you prefer) for a couple of days, and you can only pick one of these two to bring with you for music. Everything currently on the Nintendo Music App as of the beginning of 2025, or the entirely of Smash Ultimate's soundtrack. Which would you choose?

I'd pick Smash Ultimate's soundtrack for my choice.

Man, it sucks that the app is locked behind an NSO subscription (which I'm not doing), because I'd love it so much... I just took a glimpse at its library and it is impressive, although a bit... inconsistent? Like, Kirby only has Dream Land and Star Allies, two games which, while having good soundtracks, are a bit lackluster compared to, say, Forgotten Land, Planet Robobot, Super Star, or Return to Dream Land.
With that being said, I'd be so tempted to pay an NSO subscription IF they added more Fire Emblem soundtracks. Awakening, Shadows of Valentia, and Genealogy of the Holy War in particular are three gems that come immediately to my mind.

On the brighter side of things, they have Scarlet & Violet and they are, in my opinion at least, the games in the Pokemon series with EASILY the best soundtrack, so for the time being the lineup is solid to say the least. Man, I'd REALLY love for this damn app to be available outside of NSO...

Currently I'd also choose Ultimate's soundtrack. I already listen to it while driving. The app does make a nice companion piece though and it has let me rediscover soundtracks.

Thankfully it's at least tied to the cheaper subscription (at least I think it is). I wouldn't recommend getting NSO just for the app, but it does make the package a little bit sweeter.

Speaking of Pokemon, how do you expect them to handle certain Pokemon titles? Like, so many Pokemon games have updated versions with the exact same soundtrack with additions. For example. Pokemon Crystal has all the tracks from Gold and Silver and then some. Would we be getting Gold and Silver as one "available titles" while linking to Pokemon Crystal with it's complete soundtrack?

Good work Swamp for guessing the game.
I've cracked the code.

Next week will actually be Wind Waker! We just needed every other game to be done to finally get it!

Don’t forget Super Mario World.

Plus Nintendo loves curveballs so we could get games not in the trailer, which is basically everything but Wind Waker and Mario World at this point.

Yeah, but surely they won't add two SNES tracks back to back, right?

Hey we now have special playlists for Cranky, Funky and Wrinkly Kong.

When we got Super Mario 64, we finally got Peach, Toad, Boo and Piranha Plant as playlists.

It's strange that we have a playlist for Wrinkly Kong, but not DK, Dixie or Diddy Kong Diddy Kong

Peach didn't have a playlist when the app launched? Even Rosalina did

I mean Mario and Luigi still don't have playlists for some reason. Neither do Link, Samus, Olimar, or any main characters.

I've noticed when I access the character playlists section of the app, it always loads a random assortment of 30 playlists, but I can't seem to be able to access a page with ALL of them. Not sure why it's designed like that, or if I'm missing something. It would be like only listing 30 randomly chosen games in the app but not allowing anyone to see a page with all of them.

Nope. The character playlists are very strange. As stated above, Boo has a playlist, but no Metroid character has any. Carmine from Pokemon has one, but Olimar (the Pikmin have one). Sheik has a playlist that is only two minutes long. It just has every Ocarina song she teaches you, and her theme.

Hmm... this gives me a fun idea for the OP. We aren't going to have upcoming releases for much longer.

It seems to cycle each day, but... yeah I dunno what they're doing. I assume the intent is to suggest new things to listen to each day but... like... who cares? I wanna see all of them at once, please.

Thankfully, you can click a game, scroll down and see any playlist associated with it.

DKC3 being the very first game of 2025, clearly that means Dixie is coming to the next Smash. (And home console Mario Kart).

Yeah, it would be nice to give people an option to just purchase the App without an NSO subscription for like, a couple bucks or so. I still pay for the regular $20 just for Splatoon and Smash (and the NES/SNES/GB games are nice as well). Thankfully, it's only tied to the cheaper option and not the expansion pass, while I do like N64/GBA, $50 is a little too much for me, I only tried it once annually and let it run out later. (If it included Gamecube/DS/Wii I might have reconsidered.)
