"Dark", you say? Perhaps even... Eternal Darkness? And with that, all promised games have been given.
We are now completely in the dark.
I didn't even realize just how many snes tracks we've gotten this year so far. Here's hoping for a Wii, Wii U, or DS track next week.Mario World is nice and all but I hope they cool it with the SNES tracks for a while. Of the five soundtracks we got this year, three of them were SNES tracks.
Also 3DS which has nothingI didn't even realize just how many snes tracks we've gotten this year so far. Here's hoping for a Wii, Wii U, or DS track next week.
Aha! I predicted it all the way back in December! Are Nintendo Music updates happening a day earlier now?
Because Golden Sun was just added.
Edit: Tomorrow is National Foundation Day in Japan so Nintendo likely added the track early to accommodate the holiday.
Now we can debate next week’s track!
Praise me for the prophet that I am!!!In that case, new game for the thread: give a new game for each system that hasn't gotten a new one yet:
- Um... okay, I'm gonna have to skip NES. I can't remember if Punch-Out was that or SNES.
- GB: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
- GBA: Golden Sun
- Gamecube: Luigi's Mansion
- Wii U: Star Fox Zero
- 3DS: Fire Emblem Awakening
I'll admit, a lot of these were kinda random...
well that answers the question I was about to askEdit: Tomorrow is National Foundation Day in Japan so Nintendo likely added the track early to accommodate the holiday.

The fact they always add it to stuff like this shows they DO still care for it, even if the series is dead. Don't give up hope for a new game.By the way, can I just say I find it oddly funny and joyful that of all people... Saturos and Mernardi have a character playlist.
Like, you have all these iconic characters like Bowser, Zelda and the Pikmin and then there's just these two. It's nice that even if Golden Sun isn't in a great spot, Nintendo still puts some effort into remembering it.
I havent played games one and two but i do remember game 3 endinding in a huuge cliffhanger! The fact they always add it to stuff like this shows they DO still care for it, even if the series is dead. Don't give up hope for a new game.
that is an excellent question but I’m afraid I can’t think of a reason that seems plausible. best I can think of is for some reason the 3DS sound files are incompatible with the app which just doesn’t seem likelySo why do you think we haven't gotten any 3DS tracks?
Good question, not sure I have an answer. The best I can think of is that it might have to do with which games they wanna add when, and as a result 3DS has been sidelined. So why do you think we haven't gotten any 3DS tracks?
3DS OSTs are just kind of tricky. Barely any of them have prior releases they can take from, and most of the ones that do are from franchises that involve other companies and have thus far barely been included (namely Fire Emblem, Kirby and Pokémon). So why do you think we haven't gotten any 3DS tracks?
Do you know which soundtracks needed new masters?3DS OSTs are just kind of tricky. Barely any of them have prior releases they can take from, and most of the ones that do are from franchises that involve other companies and have thus far barely been included (namely Fire Emblem, Kirby and Pokémon).
In terms of creating new masters like they've done for about 1/3 of the OSTs on the service thus far, it's also a lot more difficult than systems like the SNES because the sound files included in 3DS games aren't really of an acceptable quality. So to make a rip of say, Super Mario 3D Land, they'd need to get higher quality versions (or like the source masters or whatnot) of the tracks which can likely be a tricky and time consuming process even before getting to the mastering part (which in itself probably takes a lot of time).
Additionally, many 3DS OSTs are pretty large in size, but larger OSTs on Nintendo Music are both added less frequently and have heavily trended towards OSTs that have had prior releases as mentioned before simply because those save a major amount of work.
From what I can tell, the following were not based on a previous OST release:Do you know which soundtracks needed new masters?
It's definitely some kind of mandate from The Pokémon Company International. Who can really say why, but TPCi is notoriously protective of their IP, even well above Nintendo (at least by themselves), so I can't really say it's surprising. And for some reason, there aren't extended tracks for the Pokémon games. What's Game Freak got against that?
I'll be shocked if the first Wii U game isn't Splatoon (has OST releases + majorly popular, especially in Japan). I guess they could do 3D World but realistically thanks to Bowser's Fury that'll be considered a Switch game I think. Now that Golden Sun has given the GBA something, the only consoles available at launch that still haven't gotten anything are the NES and the Game Boy. I expect one of those to be next.
The 3DS' absence was already discussed, but now that the Wii U was added I'm expecting it to receive something soon. What game do you think will be included? I'm expecting a dual release. If we get say... Super Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, we'd probably get both the Wii U and the Switch versions together. As far as I'm aware, there are no soundtrack differences between those two versions. One version just had more tracks.
Wait, I thought Nintendo owned Game Freak? How are they higher than Nintendo? It's definitely some kind of mandate from The Pokémon Company International. TPC is a separate company from Game Freak and they’re all independent of each other.Wait, I thought Nintendo owned Game Freak? How are they higher than Nintendo?
Game Freak is their own independent company. They even make stuff that never appears on Nintendo consoles.Wait, I thought Nintendo owned Game Freak? How are they higher than Nintendo?
As far as I know thus far only Japanese gets unique screenshots for certain tracks (and even then not many, StreetPass Mii Plaza has just 4 and that's on the higher end).I can confirm that the tracks in the UK version have the localised names. however the thumbnail for certain songs still have the US name
you and me bothMan, I miss Street Pass. Sometimes I do wish they could bring back Puzzle Swap and Find Mii and the other games for the Switch
How many altogether?Interesting little fun fact: By my count, the addition of StreetPass Mii Plaza made for 999 tracks added to the service since launch.
I counted them all. Overall, Nintendo Music has 3,210 songs on it.How many altogether?
