Most likely for Brawl's arrival we will be seeing some familiar faces, obviously, but also we will be seeing much more new, fresh competitors for Brawl. Veteran pros will of course rejoin the fight but there is many others who have already made up their minds saying they want to go pro for brawl. Maybe because they are late bloomers for the melee universe or just the fact that they didn't have anyone to play with. Most likely this will change incredibly with online gameplay. Since I am one of these that wish to go big for brawl I wanted to know openly who else was in it with me and for the pros to wish us the best of luck. Well?

Online play won't change the tournament sceen that much. Tournaments that requier physical prescense will be of the upmost importance because of the fact that lag will severely effect online playing. Smash is a very frame dependant game, as minor screw ups can alter the tide of battle. Don't expect to become famous with online play. Becoming a famous player and gaining recognition isn't something that can come at onces convenience.

Besides, I love to travel to tournaments and meet new people. It's one of the best experiances that couldn't be replaced.

I'm with ya, Z. I, too, will try to strive for the famed 'Pro' status in Brawl. Not just through online, but hopefully I'll be able to cross Europe in my travels to the top.

Oh no no no, I mean the fact that online play is a way of practice for those who can't get it. Tournament wise is what I meant for becoming pro. Simply enough you got a great point, especially the way they are going to make it. Hopefully (or in other words most likely) there will be many tournaments for brawl for us to go to. The fact that there is a new line for the smash series will add on more competitive players to the table, possibly this will be more competitive than melee.

Flying Dutchman, I hope you get that wish of yours, hope all of us do.

I'll try for Pro online and hold the title as the Relusive Pro Smasher... :D

Awesome titles and bad jokes aside, I'd like to try my hand at Pro status, see how far it takes me. Granted, the lack of wavedashing may make it a tad bit easier, but I predict my own demise if I take it too simply. I'll strive to be one of the best in the Atlantic East

While you are right about the Tournaments that require physical presence being the most important not only because of the frame issues, but also because you don't really get "pro" fame while online, the tournament scene might actually change a bit (though probably not much) given the many changes that have been made (namely making it "easier" without the AT's) but also because the online mode will greatly help good players that don't feel confident enough to travel to a tournament, specially when they're from foreign countries.

Many people (there are always exceptions) would not spend loads of money to travel to a tournament if they don't know whether they have a chance of winning at all even if they're very good, since they may think that they're not good enough or that the other players are far better than them. With online mode, not only you can practice with other good players, but you can also compare your skill more easily with other good players or even pro's (which I'm sure a lot of people will be doing in these boards). As I said in another post, a new door has been opened to many great players that may have potential to become pro's. I hope to be one of those, eventually. :p

Those aren't pro Brawlers, those are pro Melee players. Brawl is a new game and on a whole different level. Ground zero, pl0x.

Some friends, people I met playing Melee, and I are planning to start a Brawl crew here in NY. I started playing competitively late with Melee, but since Brawl has different mechanics, everyone will have an equal chance of going pro if you are willing to travel. =) Also, I was 10 when Melee came out. ;_;

Well I'll wish you luck, even though I'm not pro, which doesn't really matter, but ya I hope to see a lot of competition with this game and a lot of people becoming very good at it.

He wasn't entirely serious I'm sure. But he and the others were the first pros to play Brawl. In a sense they are the first pro Brawlers. And Brawl is a new game yes but don't expect to be on equal footing with a pro simply because you think advanced techniques will be gone ... Its not on a whole different level as a lot of skill will carry over. But it will have different advanced techniques and play styles to learn

On topic, I also think Brawl will be a chance for scrubs and casuals to get into the competitive arena. All the people that cried foul at Melee's advanced play styles will have a second chance to put up or shut up when Brawl is released. Lets just hope that we have more people willing to accept and work for pro status rather than give up and bash it.

And yea online play will probably help to spark interest in advanced play for people who get whooped by a character they though wasn't good or when they see people doing wierd things (L-canceling lag heavy moves, wave landing effectively rather than at random times, dash dancing etc). It'll be fun watching this game evolve.

Hopefully the online problem becomes better then we hope for and lag won't be an issue. Still it's going to be freakin' amazing!

The main reason I didn't go pro with Melee was I had no one to practice against.
Hopefully online will be good enough that I can can become at least somewhat good.
That's one of the reasons I joined this board.

I'll try my hand at improving since fighting level 1 CPs isn't gonna get me anywhere. As long as you guys are willing to play someone over 2500miles away it's all good.

I'm going to try my hand at advanced techniques in Brawl. I used them every once in a while in Melee but never seriously or extensively. I've only used them for fun.

I won't be going to tournaments though. I have neither the time, patience, nor ability to do that.

online will rock, i plan on practicing with it as well as with friends in rl
I'll play you and anyone else that wants to play. I'm coming for you, Eternal pheonix Fire and you too, Dylan _Tnga. About the topic: there will be new players and a world champion to come with it. However, the people that think that just because wavedashing is gone means they're going to be able to beat the pros are being very foolish.

^^ Double true. I'll only use online for people that are ridiculously out of the way for friendlies or when I need someone slightly better than a computer to train with O.o

EDIT: the double true was for dylan tnga.

That's what I'm thinking now ;)

I came late into the Melee scene... too late for it to be worth even making an entrance, but Brawl is a fresh start. It's gonna be fun.

I fully intend to join the tournament scene, provided I have enough free time in the coming months to master the game as fully as I would like to. I'd have to pick a main, though, and that is becoming increasingly hard with each new character. I love the looks of so many of them, and some of the ones I liked in Melee (but had trouble mastering because of their limitations) have improved in the areas that I hated.

I guess it'll just take a while to discover my new favorites, and then I'll start working on my mindgames and whatever new advanced techniques work their way into the game after a couple of weeks of playing around with a full character roster.

i was only 5 when SSB64 came out and i started practicing against my brothers who were bout 14 at the time. i would always lose, then melee came out and i had just turned 8. By tht time i was already kicking my brothers and their friends' ***** lol. but i play almost any chance i get since the day i got melee. brawl is going to be completely different so i hope i can get really known by becoming a pro, but tht isnt going to be easy at all :ohwell:

Well, you can never tell if you're gonna reach pro status. I really got into Melee about 14 months ago, so I got in the scene pretty late in the game. With Brawl, I have a lot of training and practice under my belt already and I'm here at the start of Brawl.

Plus, now I'm 15 and I can actually go to tournaments. Combined with online, I have bright looks towad the future. I just hope Brawl is great competitively....

Melee pros will most likely stick to eachother as far as online goes.
I just hope to high hel* that Melee sticks it out a little longer competitively.
Online tournaments just won't be the same. And if that is not the case, I hope Brawl tournaments actually happen offline.

I have a feeling the really good melee players will still be amazingly good in brawl, but maybe a LITTLE easier to beat than in melee. hahha. ... *hope*

 You know that you're gonna get four stocked by Azen, Dylan. There's no avoiding it!

This is actually a pretty cool thread.

I suppose I should call myself a "late bloomer" to the competitive Melee scene. I don't plan on slouching for Brawl, though. I plan on attending as many tourneys as I can, both online and off.

I definately started playing melee competetively late. I started playing competetively a year ago, but I have only started going to tournaments frequently last summer. But when Brawl comes out, I will be able to start fresh and start going to tournaments at the very start.
