Hey, what's up guys?

This is the Marth Edge guard Thread. Below is a list of the characters and the suggested strategies to keep that piece of crap off the stage. :)

Note-If you have any advice or any strategy that you find works well I will edit this post and quote you and stuff, sound good?

Doctor Mario-Doctor Mario is one of the easier people to edge guard. Often Docs will try to get the Down B spin move going so that they can get more elevation to pull off a better chance to make it back.

Options:

1-Patiently wait for Doc to use his upB and execute either a well timed Fsmash or a nice Dtilt.
2-Chase him off the stage and use a non sweet spotted fair to keep him off.

Mario-This is pretty much the same thing as Doc except for the fact that you need to remember that Marios forward B gives him more elevation. See Doc. Mario for how to edge guard him.

Peach-Peach is one of the hardest people to edge guard....because you really can not. You basically have to get lucky here.

Options:
1-If Peach is above you remain patient and wait for her to make the first move. Most Peaches will try to play with your head with her floating and multiple cancel upB parasol. Be patient (REALLY patient) and watch what she does. When she makes the first move get ready to spam fairs.
2-If Peach is approaching back to the stage below you plan for a fsmash or d tilt...prefably a fsmash because you do not want her to come back and Peach is the hardest to kill in the game.

BowserBowser is extremely easy to edge guard at low levels of competitive play but moderately hard at high levels. Edge guarding DJ Nintendo's Bowser is not as easy as fsmash.

Options:

1-Get as close to the ledge as possible if hes above you and use either a ftilt, fsmash, or jab even. A nice jab should set you up for a good fsmash because Bowser is obviously going to use his upB as soon as you hit him with any attack regardless of what it is.
2-If he is below you try to space yourself from the ledge and plan on getting a dtilt off...if that fails regrab bowser when he comes back to the stage, fthrow and spam fair.

Link/Young Link-These two can be a pain in the butt but if you can do it if you have good timing.

Options:

1-If the YL/L player uses the hookshot: when they come up to the stage....d tilt
2-if they up B wait until Link's head is above the stage (crouch cancel the upB) and then follow up with a fsmash or d tilt.

Captain Falcon/Ganondorf-
These two are EXTREMELY fun to edge guard but make sure you keep your cool though and still pay attention.

Options:

All you need to do is fsmash or d tilt if they are coming from below and spam fair or bair if they are coming from above you. If you want to be fancy smancy you could edge hog followed by a c stick dair spike back to the stage. It looks nice. :)

Roy-Roy is actually not that bad once you know what to do.

Options:

1-Just counter. (I have not tested this but I bet it would be extremely effective seeing as most Roy's do not sweet spot.) Who plays Roy seriously anyway?

Mr. Game and Watch-Piece of cake to edge guard. Get really close to the edge every time you edge guard him.

Options:

1-If GAW is trying to hit you upon using his Up B-Counter, d tilt, or forward smash.
2-If he is trying to sweet spot (Hardest character to sweet spot with...wont happen often) try to get a quick d tilt off. A fsmash would be much too hard to time because of how weird his recovery is.

Fox/Falco-Falco is really easy while Fox CAN BE a pain in the ***.

For Fox/Falco-If they try to sweet spot the ledge with an illusion-d tilt works great (sweet spotted or not.) If they DO NOt try to sweet spot the ledge-Jab or F tilt.

Fire Fox-If they do it below you-Counter or a well timed fsmash. (If you use the counter-Foolow up with either a gimped non tipped fair or wait for him to upB again and either repeat or Fsmash.)

If they do it above you-Chances are they are either

A-Trying to sweet spot the ledge
B-Trying to attack you

A-Try to edge hog quickly. (Really good players will try to sweet spot the ledge usually)
B-Wavedash backwards if you think you can space it properly and than fsmash or counter again and go back to square one.

Also-If the Bird is literally DIRECTLY under the ledge they may try rise above the ledge and then land back down. In this case-Edge hog.

Sheik-
I actually find Sheik to be extremely easy. A Sheik will ALWAYS try to sweet spot the ledge. MAKE SURE you try to stay at a low percent when edge guarding her. It makes it much easier.

Options:

1-Your one and only option. When Sheik goes off the stage quickly edge hog so you force her to land on the stage. When she is about to land on the stage hit L or R to roll back to the stage (Why you should be at a low percent....you will get up faster!) and right when she lands fsmash her. If you're a bit slow and your opponent starts to spot dodge your Fsmashes....wait for them to spot dodge and then punish. If you're on Dreamland.....well...you should not be!!! It's Marth's second worst stage. (Kongo Jungle is the worst.)

i find jumping offstage and bairing sheik often kills her.
Marth-Your ditto. Hmmm

Options:

1-If Marth is below you he is trying to sweet spot. Get a well timed Fsmash ready and try to tipper it.

2-If he is above you while recovering-Spam fairs or land a sweet spotted well timed bair to keep him off.

Note-The GRAB GAME IS CRUCIAL in a Marth ditto!!!!!!

Ice Climbers-The Iceys are actually pretty fun to edge guard too. You really need good spacing to get them though. They have two forms of recovery....the upB and the SideB

Options:

1-If they use the SideB they will be approaching from above you...watch the iceys closely and watch where they land and get your fsmash ready. Non tipped will work fine....just do not make it close for the low knockback.
2-If they upB below the stage gimp whatever one you want to kill. Remembeer that Nana pops up first to knock you around before you have a chance to kill your opponent. I personally like to go for nana....and just worry about the one Ice climber. Know your opponent though...some icey players feel more comfortable with one ice climber.

Donkey Kong-Edge guarding DK is pretty much almost the exact same as Bowser.

Options:

1-Pretty much your one and only. DK is not much of a floater so chances are he will be attempting his up b to help get back to the stage. If you are 100% sure you land the fsmash to keep him off, do it. Otherwise, spamming non tipped fairs work great too. D tilt may also be very nice too if DK approached the stage from below.

Zelda-Use the same strategy as you would use with Sheik but be aware that she travels a further distance so you need to get used to the distance that she can cover with it.

Pikachu/Pichu-These two are very hard to edge guard. Thank god for the fact that they are very light. Whew.

1-Do not go right up to the ledge....back off and try catch them with either a well timed f smash or spam fairs off the stage before they do their upB. If they come from above you dont bother with the F smash idea.

(Will edit/finish later.)

Please post thoughts, advice, and your own personal thoughts/strategies. Thanks!

What makes you think

A-This was aimed towards YOU?
B-You need to be so cocky about how good you are for no reason?

Stop.

I find well spaced dtilts to be really reliable especially against Falco and Marth.
A D tilt works well at mid to high percents but in a Marth ditto there are way to many Fsmashes being exchanged. You're better off learning to time the fsmash from the edge guard as opposed to the d tilt.

i find jumping offstage and bairing sheik often kills her.
This works well too. I'll update the post.

mmmmmmmmmmmm

against ganon when he goes high i like bairing him with the heart. usually they di bad and di into marth (survival di) so it's real easy to spike or up+b reverse afterward and it's pretty gay. if they go low just ledgehop spike or f-smash or ledgehop bair or d-tilt or whatever. ganon's recovery is terrible.

against ic just spike them whenever you can. it kills them pretty badly.

on that note, ledgehopped bair defeats pretty much anyone who recovers low except like sheik, pika, pichu, puff, gaw (kind of), mewtwo, peach (kind of). but against peach you can just wait for her to come close and stalk her with f-smash or just a generic launcher/aerial and keep her from getting her jump/float back and that screws her.

pikachu either ledgehop a spike or time an f-smash through his up+b.

You can counter tether recoveries, especially if they're stupid about it and airdodge first. I think it's a pretty good idea to edgehog against Falcon or Ganon, 'cause it limits their options and they can't hit you on the edge unless they double jump uair you.

Speaking of which, you might want to add peoples' options to hit you when you're trying to edgeguard, like Sheik's fair or whatever.
