As written above it's rough, as WFT is on par in ground mobility(faster really but not by much) than the Pits, but has puts on way more damage per combo, punishes like a heavy and out zones you. That said, as long as a Robin player understands the majority of kit interactions it's winnable. Otherwise you'll feel pretty helpless as WFT punish game can be pretty absurd.

So, the basics you should already know:
  • you outrange her easy. Dtilts, jabs and SH retreating fairs(using Levin sword here is fine as the down time is minuscule and having a sword or book in hand is fantastic) are good for discouraging her from dashing in and all have good space control and recovery. Fair only when she lacks a full charge or you'll get bopped on whiff. If she's above you, bait the airdodge and then uair, she's got nothing reasonable to challenge you with.
  • She can duck everything you have on approach that isn't dash attack and a grounded nosferatu, but if she isn't approaching you should be charging to arcthunder or thoron in kill range. If you must approach don't be afraid to walk up so you keept dtilt and dsmash as options.
  • Robin is combo food and if you're not conservative with your zoning you'll be eating a stupid combos that DI does nothing against, or dying. These are mistakes you can afford to make when DB usmash kills you at like 60% with no rage and combos from nair.
  • Your zoning range and micro charge are worse but you get more utility out of your charges so if she tries to keep throwing things at you from fullscreen, powershield and keep moving to arcthunder or thoron.
  • Her recovery is better but is just as linear. Look to spike it with Elwind if you see her use her jump.
  • Your recovery suffers tremendously against her spikes as they cover the 1 frame ledge vulnerability effortlessly. Try to save your jump to ruin her timing with uair challenges as your air mobility is decent, and if she jumps out to challenge you fair is pretty good option. Be ok with going high and taking the damage if you can't deal with her edgeguard. You'll die a lot sooner to header spikes over and over than you will to uair or whatever basic punish she uses.
  • Her uthrow with DB and rage is a kill throw around 140%. Your bthrow is a kill at about 140% from the ledge RAW you have the upperhand here so abuse it when available.

You guys should already have basic stuff like arcfire spacing against ledge options down, but just so you know, it prevents her from playing on ledge as it'll body block header. Forcing her to use a ledge option which you can cover.

Now for the important stuff you need to know to make sure you're not consistently giving away neutral.

Mid charge sun will eat everything but arcthunder, and arcfire trading in your favor with Thoron. Full charge sun will eat everything but Thoron and trade in her favor (kb wise only). So don't play zoning wars with her using half charges and arcfires.

WFT's Dair will clank with arcfire(the hitbox will remain active but she won't get hurt if the hitboxes collide) letting her jump in laglessly for free.

WFT's Nair will clank out jab 3 putting you at a small disadvantage. Multihit jab will never clank but runs Elwind out so be wary.

Books will beat fully charged SS and bounce back letting you regrab. Swords will be eaten.

WFT is really tall and landing with nosferatu can be a good mixup as it will catch her high and pull her off the ground into it. Using nosferatu in general to give yourself a book is really good.

Soccerballs can be hit back but are probably better off being shielded.

Outside of this, both characters have relatively poor neutrals, but can capitalize really well. Even if WFT gets more in general from advantage, if you play conservative and keep kit interactions in mind you only have to deal with her burst options which are only slightly faster than Pits with much less range.

Customs are much worse. Weighted header fills in the holes for her kit and lets her open you up much easier while jumbo hoops simplifies edgeguarding and opens up new traps and option coverage. Depending on the type of player you're up against you'll want to opt for 3111 (keep her out and rely on arcfire confirms and juggles for kills) or 2111 (challenge her in neutral with an aggressive Robin by asserting your superior range and kill her around 80 to keep up with her edgeguard prowess).

When you run up against a good one it'll start a little rough, but it's nothing a good tactician can't come out on top of. My partner mains Robin so this is one of my favorite matchups to play. Good luck.

By all accounts, Wii Fit Trainer appears to be a rough matchup for Robin.

Next up is...
"Hah, checkmate!" – 1.1.0 Open Discussion

The most recent patch has brought numerous buffs to the tacticians - but just how much of an advantage does Robin gain? This week, you're welcome to share your thoughts on any of the matchups that have been discussed already, and any to come, and give some initial impressions on what's changed - in future, we'll go back and discuss them again in more detail.

I feel like WiiFit got a lot more buffs than robin. Idk it's p worse. Most of wiifit's moves either got a range buff or a KB both. Some moves got both. Now header cancelling is a very good mix up and gives her a projectile for all angles. This is looking p bad for Robin.

In all honesty Robin mains should take a few weeks to focus on the new changes to their kits and reanalyze how much better your neutral is now. It doesn't take much effort to see your advantage is much stronger, but as a main for a character with much stronger setups, take our advice in that it doesn't mean anything if you can't consistently get it while holding your own in neutral.

Robin's neutral didnt actually become much better

his punish game got better

If your noticing a much better "neutral" its probably either placebo or your opponent is scared of robins new punishes so they cant yolo all over you

The reduction in end lag on Thunder (el and arc, in particular) is actually a huge boon to our neutral game, imo, as landing an arcthunder is essentially a free grab, which leads to dthrow, which puts us into advantage time. Also, fair (one of our stronger tools in the neutral) does more damage now, making it a little bit more threatening.

Only downside is we lost KB on our Back Throw, meaning we can't kill at 120 like we usually could(unless close enough to the blast zone. Can't BThrow kill people from the edge of BF now unless like 130-140). Fun thing is, DThrow->UAir/UTilt is a thing. Checkmate(credit to Raziek Raziek ) can kill people at certain percents with Levin UAir, so we have a finisher when we get a DThrow->UAir at certain high percentiles.

Back throw didn't get nerfed.

As for input on Wii Fit, I have no real opinion on this match-up. I honestly think there isn't much point in discussing it terribly in-depth until either Dath or myself gets a chance to play John#'s.

When will we be moving on to the next character, or do we need more time to discuss the new buffs and such?

I'd love to have a formal schedule for discussing MU's! Maybe one or two MU's a week like we do on the Doggy forums, discussing how to deal with characters that are harder or give us trouble, doing MU scores, the works! Here's our thread, we vote on and talk about 2 MU's a week and invite other boards to chat with us! If we have a small amount of Robins, one MU a week to start is good.

That's probably something we can do, but considering this thread feels kinda dead, I'm not sure how much we can get out of it.

That's... disturbing to see Klein like this. XD
Well, not if I at least consider this isn't Klein anymore... x)
