I'm going to ask you a few things... What does Smash 4 NEED to be better than Super Smash Bros. 64, Melee or Brawl? What characters, items, stages, music, changes to movesets, revivals, stadium games, EVERYTHING, do you guys want? Below, I ask you to list the most important things you want in Smash 4. It can be something likely, like you want Little Mac to be a newcomer, or something wacky which you really want, but is very unlikely, like Wreck-it-Ralph dueling with King Harkinian on a Tetris stage? Voice out what you want, what you think will happen, what you hope doesn't happen and what you dream will happen. I'll keep track of everything below.

PREDICTIONS:

WANTS:
-Better gameplay and balance over anything (4)
-Better online (2)
-Plenty of stages (2)
-De-cloning/ Luigifying characters (2)
-A well-rounded, nice character roster (2)

DREAMS:

NOT A CHANCE:

A really nice character roster
Balance
Better online
a lot of stages
NO CLONES (or at least lugifies them)
If it has all of that, it should be amazing

Just a balanced game would be nice.
Both Melee and Brawl have their merits, Melee is more hype overall but Brawl's still a great game that's held back by really bad balancing (like aside from MK, the top tiers are all extremely polar characters with really detrimental weaknesses but stupidly strong strengths, which is interesting but it means there's less room for creativity, then there's characters like ZSS who for some reason has a malfunctioning jab, and Ness who has a ****ty grounded grab release for no apparent reason, and Peach who lacks an air-dodge, it begs the question of what the creators were smoking when they made those design decisions)

So far it seems like we're getting a game with melee fall speed and brawl air-dodge...which means juggling won't be a thing, ever (like try to juggle D3, it's really hard when he can air-dodge past everything to the ground), so I'm not too hopeful for the game yet.

8) Great online
9) Bring back Mewtwo

Did I mention that they need to bring back Mewtwo?

It seems to be faster than Brawl so gameplay-wise I think it's already looking promising. In terms of the roster, I think the most important thing is to make sure each character brings something unqiue to the game. That means no characters in the vein of Falco, or Wolf, or Toon Link. Not to say I have anything against those characters personally or that I don't want to see any of them return, but in terms of feeling like individual characters they definitely fell flat for me.

1.- Ditching ridiculous balance over number of characters.
2.- More hazardous stages for real players...not Fox-abusing tourneywimps.
3.- Sonic, Ridley, Layton and Dillon.
4.- Storymode bosses with scenarios from the actual games.
5.- Enormous music collection.
6.- Overpower all Final Smashes instead of downpowering the powerful ones.
7.- More Assist Trophies.
8.- Stable online mode.
9.- Patching to fix broken chars.
10.- Beautiful CGI cutscenes.
11.- Fully-playable Masterpieces.

Fun customization.
More franchises revived/translated due to inclusion.
Remove edge guarding mechanic.
No hitstun. (Am I on the other end of the spectrum?)
Making Final Smashes integrated into gameplay, not completely removeable via item switch.
Dedicated online.
Really fun game modes.

DEEZ BE MY DEZIREZ!!!
likely: balancing, better stage builder
sakurai's choice: bring back board the platforms, race to the finish, and for the love of all that is holy, mewtwo. make more enemies from series appear, and more often than before in matches
meh, MAAYYYBE: integrate something like my smash boost idea (i have a thread about it, if anyone wants to check it out)
im dreaming: put it marina from mischief makers as a playable character (great moveset potential, by the way...)

In order of importance:

1. Fluid, fast, and non floaty gameplay. Even as a filthy casual buying Brawl, I could tell it was a lot different than Melee. Took some getting used to.
2. Robust online play and features. Brawl was terrible when it came to this.
3. A strong roster. The rest of the newcomers need to be serious such as Mewtwo, K. Rool, Waluigi, Ridley, etc. No more Wii Fit trainers.
4. No more clone movesets, Final Smashes, or anything else.
5. Custom events, modes, and gameplay. Halo was hailed for letting the community make up fun games outside of the old TDM, Capture the Flag, etc.
6. Strong music function.

DREAMS:

1. Reggie. Nothing else.

Remove edge guarding mechanic.
No hitstun. (Am I on the other end of the spectrum?)

Are you sure about these? Because edgeguarding was even including in the Smash training video by Nintendo. And it'd be pretty hard to "remove" edgeguarding or prevent exploitation of such a removal.

As for hitstun, how do you suppose it works out if characters won't react to a jab? That seems like an exploitable function favoring heavyweights who could instantly counter.

I dream of there being an online lobby, where you can view and download user created replays, stages and snapshots.
A lobby for sharing content.

Actually make that a want, not a dream. There's already a thread dedicated to smash bros dreams.

1 bring back mewtwo
2 bring back board the platform
3 bring back race to the finish
4 better online mode
5 making the customization hint moveset changes (just a dream but doubtful of happening)
6 balance the characters from brawl luigi meta knight pikachu and ROB
7 a better version of Melee story mode (I mean better than the Melee one not like SSE)

And a dream outside the game and here at smash boards
Please end the Ridley is a Harzard or playable or boss argument

Edgeguarding has been an essential part of the gameplay, but I've never personally liked it. Distracts from the actual fighting and knocking out of the arena in place of a "grab it before he does or die" rush.

It's the lag in the hitstun; that hitting a character will make your attack hitbox last longer, rather than shorter. I get a lot of great kills on it with Ganondorf but again it's not something I like.

I don't know many Nintendo characters so the roster is moot to me.

1) I'd prefer a Battle Track for a stage instead of a Race Track if any Mario Kart stage is made, like...I forget the name but the roulette one, 'Chomp Chomp Casino' rings a bell for some reason.
2) Better custom stage building and character customization. I know the latter is suggested but I'm hoping that you can actually create new characters into your roster instead of just adding Miis.
3) Bigger library of masterpieces. Brawl opened up other games I would have otherwise never heard of before.

This'll never happen but another dream is to include Commander Keen, even as an assist trophy but preferably in the roster. I think he's a very very brief third or fourth party character for Nintendo.

Still up Peach's dress.
Honestly?

First wish: I'd want a huge roster. This game is played for the characters after all. Add as many characters as you can. Go nuts, seriously. Half the fun is watching so many characters beat the snot out of one another.

"But YoshiandToad, what about game balance?"

Second wish: Balance the game with Wii U updates as problems occur and become evident.

The Smash development team can then keep their jobs for longer rather than until the game gets released. It worked for Team Fortress, why the hell not do it for other popular games like Smash?

Third wish: If the above isn't possible, then make it smaller roster, and make sure it's balanced well.
Then add DLC so the Smash development team can keep their jobs for longer and make people happy who missed out on their favourite characters again. But then you'd need to balance everyone again, so it'd make more sense to do the first two wishes instead.

I just really want to see how customization for the 3DS works out. If it is super awesome, I will definitely get the Wii U version, but if it isn't how I wanted it, then I might not get the Wii U version. I just really want balanced characters and a lot of characters. As long as there are no clones either, I'm good. Oh yeah, and bring back Sonic.

- Balance (first of all)
- Very stable online mode. It means no combos that arn't true offline.
- A lot of competitive stages (no randomness) + return of foutain of dreams, dreamlands.
- Nice roster (doesn't mean "huge roster"). Please add Bowser.Jr that can transforms into Anti/Shadow Mario with down B.
- Faster gameplay than SSBB.

It would be awesome

Faster gameplay

I wouldn't necessarily say no clones, because there are some clones that, despite having very similar movesets, are still very differently played (Lucas, Wolf, Roy) from their stemming character. I'd say bring back the "clones" that are worth doing so. There are other clones (Dr. Mario, Pichu) that aren't necessary at all though. Ganondorf should be changed because his moveset doesn't match the character.

Even closer attention to the source material for movesets.

A good roster with the characters seen below.

Better faster gameplay the closer to melee the better
Balance,Character changes that make sense I don't mind clones due to they play different and feel different. Like chaning falco's down b in brawl was a bad change to me.
Great stages custom music would be welcomed
Great online+Voice chat
Everyone having a great time punishment for rage quits.

Hmmm to be better than Melee?

1) Balance-
This has been my one and only problem with Smash is the Balance issue. Coming from a melee perspective I greatly hated how some people could love their characters and not be rewarded at all for out playing an opponent because of their High Reward low Risk options. I believe Guilty Gear is one of the most balanced fighters I have ever played. An they have the Tournament results to prove it. I believe GG is so balanced because of the strong mechanics within the game. I believe Smash should also work on the game mechanics in combination with the Characters to give a really balanced fighter.

1.A. Teching/ Ukemi is a really good feature. I think it would be much better to make all character have a Tech animation, as well as traction when doing this relatively good. There can be a frame or two difference between everyone. It can also degrade with percent like getting up from the ledge.

1B.-D apply a similar trend line to the other mechanics like roll, spot dodge, air dodge. THey can still be unique to the character, But they need to still be viable and good options.

1.E Grab System- I believe the grab system can be greatly improved upon. I'm not saying it has to be like Guilty or any other fighter. But I do think Smash 4 should have a more concrete system than history has shown. I believe this was talked about in a thread before, but long story short the grab mechanics like rotating controller, hitting buttons. should be a lot stronger at lower percents. This would allow for a consistent way to break grabs. An when grabs are broken characters return back to neutral position should be thought of as well.

1.F Power Shielding- Why was this ever taken out. If an opponent sees and reacts to a persons projectile he should be rewarded for timing a block. It's still in for melee attacks. I believe the Project Reflection should be back in.

1.G Tether Recovery- This should be done with the Melee approach. Giving these characters more options than just the ledge will help them out immensely.

2) Character Roster- I love what I see so far from the roster. I hope they keep coming, and Yoshi better in there dogit lol. I'd also like to see squitle with his Water Brigade shades. and Bubble attack. I wouldn't mind seeing diddy kong again. Because I hated brawl so much, I never really got to enjoy some of the characters that I've always wanted to play with.

3) Online Gameplay- A solid online game play system would be lovely. Maybe have a sophisticated ranking system to allow players to play with other around and above their play skill. Online play could be never ending if done right. I"d love to see the ability for players to make Clans. This would be run similar to adventure mode in that a Clan could take up a spot in the realm of a characters world. They would make the obstacles / stages. There could be challenges and duels to to loose and gain territory. Doubles matches could actually have a purpose jk jk.

4) Aesthetic customization - KOF did a very good job of this. I think Smash 4 could really benefit from allowing users to have their own color scheme.

5) Move Customization - Maybe allow characters to make modifications to their characters hit boxes and vectors that they send opponents. Maybe a fox could tweak his up-smash to go at a 75 degree angle. This would make opponents have to seriously watch how they DI attacks. Oh and it looks like they've brought back a stronger knock-back on moves. I hope this continues.

In the end yeah, If there is balanced play, with Various options for combatants to choose and there is Yoshi who can eat projectiles, tether recover with his tongue, angle his neuterual b and throw eggs behind his back. Then I'll be a happy player of the new smash. They already took out tripping and sped up the fray a bit so I'm half Sold!

Well melee is amazing game the closer the better.
We want a different game, not the same game, but with more characters and HD graphics. If you like Melee, then you can always still go back and play it. People play different Smash's because they are different and have different mechanics, not because they are the same.

Smash 4 will have no tripping, and the speed will be in between Melee and Brawl. There might be canceling in it. Tell me how that is Brawl 2.0.
