Am I the only one who buys three cheap pairs at a time, and just swaps them out when they break? Why spend $50 on a brand name pair of headphones when they're all victim to the one speaker crapping out?
you buy cheap headphones because you like poopy sound quality...nothing wrong with that...You just haven't been tainted with having listened to a higher quality headphone. Once you listen to something that sounds nice, you wont want to go back. It's kind of like a curse and a blessing.

the headphones i want to get next are the sony mdr X10's
anyone own these?
Those were some other ones I was thinking of getting, because they are Simon Cowell's headphones that were supposed to rival the Beats.

They sounded really good, but they're very heavy and it felt like they were squeezing my ears. When I took them off my ears were all red... D:

The overall quality of them was great, but they just weren't comfortable. If they had an over ear version I'd snatch them up!

i've read that they can get kinda uncomfy after a while...also, they don't isolate very well right? I would like to listen to a pair sometime. I know they are open, but I really don't like hearing any kind of outside noise when listening to music.
it hurts your jaw the same way chewing gum for a long time does- when they're new. this goes away over a couple months and isn't even a problem as long as you spend less than 2 hours at a time with headphones on. i've had mine for ~3 years now and i can wear them indefinitely without any problems.

i used to like noise-canceling headphones but these are much better. you hear the music like it's just ambient sound that's not coming from the headphones. the result is that you just hear normally but the sound quality of the music is still amazing. the amount of utility gained by avoiding the actual amount of time one spends immersed in unwelcome sounds is not justified by being functionally deaf as the alternative, IMO.

these are not gaming headphones so i don't think they really appeal to the age group of this forum in general. gaming headphones tend to be noise canceling so they pull for this demographic. the grado headphones are for people that want to know what their music is supposed to sound like.

i have tried them and
they are one of the most comfortable headphones ive ever worn
not as much bass as beats studios hd but still solid
but the highs and mids are some of the best
if you can find them for < 200 there are a very good deal

Ok I REALLY love this blue, but do you think it might be too girly vs the darker blue? D: I like the white on it better also :S

Edit: Lol just realized my font color is the same color O.o

I've seen the light blue in real life...it is a little feminine...but if you like the color, go for it. I personally don't like the white earcups-blue headband pairing. Dark Blue is definitley more masculine.

You're really going to associate color with gender?

you don't have too....but he asked if light blue headphones were "girly", and because I've seen them in real life, I'd say so. I don't want to get into an argument about colors but let's be honest now, pink is more traditionally feminine. Ultimately, he can obviously do whatever he wants. If you like the color, go for it.

I personally don't care because there's really no such thing as gender specific colors anymore. I can just picture my dad going "Why'd you get those girly headphones?" e.e He's one of those "manly" dads, lol.

I looked at the user submitted pics on beats (http://color.beatsbydre.com/gallery/) and there's a lot of guys that have the lighter blue so... who cares??? >.>

"rival the beats" HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

By "rival" you mean mediocre over-priced marketing ploy #2?

If you want something aesthetically pleasing like the beats, just get noontec zoro. Runs about $100, very comfortable, neutral sound, very trendy.

So I modded my Koss Pro DJ-100 to have a removable cable. **** spending an extra $80 on the DJ-200.

Found the tony benett edition at a thrift store for $50. HNNNNGH bought that so fast. Sold it for $80. c:

Gonna get my Hisoundaudio Golden Crystal repaired soon~

Hey white mage, buy these http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-...31030&sr=8-1&keywords=audio+technica+ath+t400 they're EXTREMELY light, and sound freaking amazing. About par with the ATH M50, but more comfortable, less bass, more mid/treble for an overall more balanced sound.

Pretty much, lol.

Oh i tried those on at the studio store, they sounded pretty nice... but they looked funky on me. D:

What do you think of these? They're fully customizable and virtually indestructable. ._.

Finally upgrading from a broken pair of headphones to a nice gaming headset with some decent audio

http://lazytechguys.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Sennheiser-PC-323D-Dolby-7_1-3.jpg

Sennheiser 323Ds
I needed a headset for gaming, live streaming art, and talking with friends/colleagues and a good replacement for a home set of headphones to my current pair (now my traveling pair; they're worn down but reliable)

Also the 323s make my dad feel like an NFL coach when he tested em for me and that kind of made my day. I have a feeling he will be borrowing them a lot

good choice.

Also as a general rule, consumer grade headphones sound like fart cannons. If you want anything even remotely decent, I recommend lower-end koss, audiotechnicas, creative labs, KRK, AKG, Superlux, Grado, Samson.

The T, A, AD, TAD, and AX series ATH headphones always look dorky. What matters is that they don't sound like butt.

apple earbuds sound tinny. too much treble/not enough much of anything else. the ath t400 is very close to my ideal sound. as is the sennheiser hd280.

I've found that they make me cringe unless I put the bass booster or treble reducer equalizer on >.<

They still sound pretty decent though, for free headphones anyway, lol. I'm just glad they don't leak AT ALL.

How loud did you have them? O.o I usually listen at around 1/2 of max volume and I can barely hear them when I take them off, and I asked my mom/sister if they could hear anything and they couldn't hear a thing.

ibuds leak like crazy. also if you have to use an equalizer, you probably shouldn't be listening to the headphones. EQing adds distortion. you should be happy with your headphones without any eqing.

They're meh. At the price you'll pay for them there are better alternatives. Soundmagic e30 immediately comes to mind.

I'm pretty sure they leak at decent volumes because they're earbuds...and earbuds are usually open, meaning that they do not isolate well and that they leak.

earpod is a half in-ear model, which is fine. it's not terrible, but it's not as good as the old ADDIEM, or Soundmagic E30, or the $30-$40 JVC models.

Got my beats! I went with the light blue ones and wore a shirt the same color as them. That seemed to keep my dad quiet because he gave them a funny look, then looked at my shirt and was like "Hey they match your shirt". xD

Loving them so far, everything is so clear and I love the extra bass without it making everything else foggy. I've noticed a bunch of things I didn't know were there before O.o lol

Eh, Beats go overboard with the bass, and ignore everything else. It makes the music sound so "hollow". I already mentioned here how I own the Audio Technica WS55. Advertised to have "super bass", and yet everything else doesn't sound so hollow. For 80 bucks, what a steal.

Far as portable bluetooth speakers go, I'd go with the JBL Flip or JBL Charge. JBL in general is a brand I like, and it sounds pretty good for a tiny portable speaker.

Personally I think the ws55 sounds like ass. Its super dark and congested.

I'm happy you're happy with your beats, white mage. Hope you eventually get exposed to something better to make you see the light.

Mizuki, what do you have to say about USB headsets? I like them because they have a built-in sound card, and they have a nice bass. Kind of unfortunate since I bought a pair of Sennheisers, and I noticed the bass wasn't as prominent like in my USB headset. That was the whole point that I can listen to music without lugging my huge laptop. XD
USB headsets usually are ass for music. Sound like fartcannons. Its usually kind of hard to be a good gaming headset, AND be good for music.

Skullcandy and Sennheiser are the only companies who have it right.

The slyr has very positive reviews on head-fi.

what headset do you have?

also personally i think a lot of senn's headphones are ass. The ones that stand out as good imho are the 5xx series, 6xx series, 7/800, hd 280, and the pc 350/360.

I got the 323D

I personally love the headset. Super comfy, nice design, sounds great
Wanted to go for a more expensive set, but alas, I have rent to pay. These still cost a pretty penny, but it was all worth it

Um, I really really LOOOOVE these headphones... but they hurt after about 30mins. ;-;

Will your ears eventually get used to them being there, or will this go on forever? If so, I may have to exchange them for the studios. :<
