The Gentleman

this was a trick shown to me by the SKYPAL guys, and though ive seen it mentioned around here, i think it deserves its own topic

The Gentleman(dont ask me who named it) is a trick with Capt. Falcon's nuetral a punches in which the third hit(the powerful one) goes off, but falcon doesnt enter the rapid punch that takes a few seconds to get out of

this is helpful because the third hit of falcons punches has a good amount of knockback, but often is not used to its full potential because A) the person is caught in the rest of the punches and they do not experience the knockback, or B) they will be knocked back, but you cannot recover fast enough to react(follow up with an aerial or edgeguarding)

using the gentleman, you can use nuetral a punches to their full potential, it sets up well for edgegaurding and can sometimes even be followed up by a knee or another aerial of choice

the secret to the gentleman is timing, when you first learn it, it is quite difficult and you will only do it every once in a while, but after practice its pretty easy

the only timing involved is the time between the second and third punch, you must do the third punch right before the punch combo times out(meaning that if you pressed it any later, the punches would reset and you would do the first punch)
so, if you try and you end up going into the rapid punch, you pressed too early, but if you restart at the first punch, you waited too long, you know you did it right when falcon does the third punch(its more of an elbow) and pulls it back instead of continuing to punch

i wish i had a vid to show the timing(if someone would wanna make one thatd be great, but its not that hard to know the timing, just getting it down), but you will just have to fool around with it, and even though the timing between the first two punches doesnt matter, i HIGHLY suggest that you try and even out the timing(like first...second...third)when you start to learn, and try to make the first two faster once you master it(Isai's gentleman is more of a tap, tap...tap instead of a tap...tap...tap)

now for those of you saying "when would i use the tap A punches anyways?", there is many good uses for it, if your opponent is not fast with shieldgrabbing, its a great way to come out of an l-canceled aerial that was shielded, and if you try and use it, youll find a lot of places to incorporate it into your gameplay

the gentleman is far from a vital tactic, but its a nice way to mix things up and its another trick up your sleeve, and should atleast be known to all the Falcon players out there

I like how I stumbled upon this myself by pure accident - the CPU Falcon did it to me once. I agree that this is useful though since rapid fire punches tend to suck hard for Captain Falcon.

You can also do this with Z. (Pressing L/R with the same timing as well)

A A A
....Z

Or something like that anyway.

One thing to note though, there's a difference in the PAL and NTSC versions where the rapid punch comes out automatically without one of these two techniques, while in PAL three taps of A gives you three punches.

YEah, it's really easy in PAL.

I use it for a quick knockback thingie.

Almost like reflector >_>

I actually use this maybe too often, I also discovered it by accident, and it took me awhile to figure out how to perform it correctly. But, there is a match video of me doing it twice in a row against a peach on DC++. Either I have it or SuperDoodleMan has it, it's called:
SDM (Peach) vs DarkRoom (Falcon) Yoshi's Story.wmv

Be careful as there are two others named very similar to this one only they have numbers on the end.
So feel free to check it out for the timing. This was my second tourney ever, so don't expect it as a resource for even half-good Falcon play.
