I'd like to share lots more Kasha stuff that me and my friend drew but I wouldn't want to veer too far off topic.

Just for the heck of it here's one final one. Can you tell what's going on here?

It is Shantae!

I guess she got tangled in Kasha's tail somehow and it spooked her good so now she's running around dragging her behind.

Well, it seems that Lip, just like Mike Jones, is relevant again.

While Mike Jones is relevant outside Japan thanks to the inclusion of StarTropics in NES Classic Edition, Lip is relevant in Japan thanks to the inclusion of Panel de Pon in Super Famicom Mini.

I'm really glad they decided PDP was worthy of being on the Super Famicom Mini, though it would have been even better if it was translated for the SNES Mini too.
Still, it's something and I'll take what I can get of PDP relevancy.

One thing I've heard recently is that Sakurai might not be directing the next Smash game.

It seems he has a "bad hand" or something that might keep him from working on it. I've heard rumblings that Katsuhiro Harada, director of the Tekken franchise, is being considered as director for the next game.

If true, this may actually prove beneficial for Lip's chances, because anyone who knows Harada knows that he is a fan of cute moé girls. He is a big proponent of idolm@ster, and he also pushed for the inclusion of a new character named Chloe in Tekken 7 who was designed to appeal to his moé fascination. So Lip might have a better chance with him at the wheel.

I'm very hesitant at any old straight man with an interest in moé girls to direct Smash, and Chloe's design doesn't really inspire confidence. That sort of stuff can go from cute to creepy real fast.
Still, I'll happily eat my words if she gets in under his supervision and there's no weird stuff goin on. It would also increase Isabelle's and Ashley's chances of being playable too.

Ashley I don't care so much about. Harada tends to come out of left field with his choices.

I don't think he'd pick two lolis. I think he'd pick one loli (Lip) and then pick a sexier mature girl, like say, Mona from Warioware. He doesn't always leave things up to democracy.

Man, I would hope for PdP to be released on the SNES Mini, but I guess I'm just glad that PdP is being re-released for it at all.

BTW, Mike Jones is THAT relevant again? Neat, but did I miss that or something?

Wait, for real? Where exactly did you hear this? I'm just curious is all. I'd actually like to see how Harada handles a Smash gmae, and if he alone is a likely reason for Lip to appear, I'm for it...

Still, I'll happily eat my words if she gets in under his supervision and there's no weird stuff going on. It would also increase Isabelle's and Ashley's chances of being playable too.
Yeah, if nothing..."weird" is happening behind the scenes, then I'm for it. Especially for Isabelle.

You pretty much summed up how I would feel about the situation. I don't hate Ashley, but personally, I VASTLY prefer Mona over her.

Well, Mike Jones is only temporarily relevant. At least Nintendo remembered StarTropics enough to include it in the international version.

Well, that makes sense. Still, I wish ST was added to the Famicom Mini, and PdP to the SNES Mini. You know, give both games more exposure.

Yeah, I think that having no region-exclusive games would be ideal.

Well I have some bad news. My laptop is officially dead. The GPU is starting to overheat badly and there's no way to fix it without replacing the entire motherboard, so it would be cheaper and easier to just get a completely new computer. I'm afraid that means I won't be able to work on anything Panel de Pon for a while (I'm writing this from my phone) - at least not digitally - but I'll at least be able to post about it in here. Sorry guys!

Anyway, yeah, that's where I've been. Back on topic.

I'm not happy with Nintendo putting Panel de Pon on the SFC Mini at all, honestly. I like that it's there, but I hate the reason why they did it. This constant rereleasing of the first game is doing nothing except renewing the trademark they own so they can continue to sit on the rights and do nothing with them. Not to mention the fact that N's international branches are still convinced games with cute female leads (no matter how badass that female lead may be) don't sell if they're not named Splatoon and think we'd prefer to play Kirby's Dream Course instead. Hahaha, get out of here.

I've mentioned my thoughts on Sakurai not directing the next Smash game already. I'm not certain if that means good things for Lip or not, but since Sakurai has already expressed fondness for the series and there's no guarantee his successor will have the same feelings, or even know what the game even is...

Now that a Splatoon anime--a Splat toon, if you will--has been officially announced, can Panel de Pon be next? P-please? It's begging for it to happen.

Hmm...If I'm being honest? I can't say I see a PdP anime happening (SOON), but I can say that I see either PdP getting an international release, or Lip appearing in Smash (in SOME capacity) sooner.

I don't know. I could see them using an anime to bring the series to the attention of a new, younger audience before bringing it back in full with a new game. As long as they don't use the characters and setting solely for the fanservice.

That's actually a legit worry I have, that a Panepon revival will look at the setting and the characters and see only the potential for fanservice. When your cast is 9/10 female, it's not an unfounded concern. The last thing I want to see is my girls coming back after so long only to be stuck in a game where all they do is scream and get their clothes torn off. It'd be, almost literally, like watching your kid do porn. And that's before you get into the uncomfortable situation of having a kid character like Lip in an ecchi game.

N. Onymous to be honest I'm kind of sick of you going on your ridiculous tangents about all these absurd disastrous outcomes you picture as bona-fide realistic scenarios to be concerned about.

Your conspiracy theories about Nintendo doing undesirable things with the Panel de Pon franchise practically exceeds tinfoil-hat levels of insanity. Nintendo isn't even in the market of doing ecchi software, they haven't done any such thing in their century-long history as a company, much less are they interested in taking one of their historic franchises to do such a thing with it. Add to it that the girls of Panel de Pon all have underage appearances, and you are now thinking of Nintendo catering to a demographic of lolicons, which wouldn't be even slightly within their business interests. Your logic for this being a possibility is not only far-reaching (like your arms are stretching from here to jupiter reaching for conclusions) but actually in of itself kind of unsettling, almost as if you want such a thing to happen. Because I can assure you, the thought of the PdP girls being in an ecchi series hasn't crossed ANYONE'S minds. You're the only one who brought it up.

The Senran Kagura games already exist for the ecchi game demographic, and you're boldly suggesting that PdP might one day be competing against this M-rated series, which not only contains heavy fanservice but also themes of death, foul language, substance abuse, assassination, horror imagery, childhood trauma and loss, and you base this on absolutely nothing. It's a completely unsolicited opinion. Why are you doing this? Keep in mind that you're the only one dragging up these garbage theories. In the continued interest of keeping this thread healthy I have to ask you to stop with this line of thinking immediately. You're really starting to get on my nerves with this. I doubt very much that I'm alone in that either.

I'm not trying to be mean, or judgmental. I'm just going to ask you to try to rope it in. Ask yourself how conducive you're being to the desired atmosphere of this thread. I know you love this series but you are going way off the deep end way too often.

All right, I'll keep the doomsday theories to myself. I know it's not something anyone wants to hear and it's hardly a realistic outcome. I have a very bad habit of always jumping to the worst case scenario and it's something I still have to work on. I'm sorry. I love this series and I don't want discussion of it to be uncomfortable for anyone.

I have to agree with PsychoJosh PsychoJosh there. I understand that you're pretty frustrated with PdP's treatment, but it's not exactly healthy to focus on the negative. Honestly, there is NO way Ninty would do to the cast of PdP what you described.

That being said, we understand your love and concern for the series. I mean, I (hopefully) doubt that Nintendo can just ignore the series forever. If Animal Crossing and the Super Famicom Mini are any indication, Nintendo seems to have NO intention of giving up on the series and/or let it die off. Of course, I DO hope that Nintendo/I.S. comes up with a new game and/or adds Lip to Smash, whether it be as a playable character, Assist Trophy, or Trophy.

100% a supporter. one thing i will say needs to be done, is that Lip fans have to be more aggressive. i was supporting Shantae 2 years ago, and she went from being a nobody to being one of the top candidates for the Smash Ballot. Smash Bros could be Lip's chance for return because fan's voices do matter. if Lip makes it on the Smash Bros roster, she could skyrocket into popularity and her series could make a huge comeback. Metroid Prime 4 is now a reality due to constant begs and pleads from fans. now fans are moving on to F-Zero. but Panel de Pon is a lot less known so we have more work to do. i don't know where Lip fans are hiding but we need to draw attention to the series. with the recent release of Panel de Pon on the Super Famicon, now's the chance to let people know this game exists and needs a revival.

so whether it's through social media like FaceBook, Twitter, or Instagram or forum websites like Reddit, Gamefaqs, or Smash Baord, we as fans can't just hope silently. we have to hope vocally if we want anything accomplished. or Panel de Pon will just be another old great Nintendo series that fizzled out and died. but considering the Animal Crossing minigame and the rerelease on the Super Famicon, i have a feeling they aren't finished with this series yet. it's the fans job to support the series and show them we still care. since people on this board love Lip, we have to prove it. lets find some Lip fans in hiding and bring some newbies to the series. then maybe will start to see a spiral of support for our favorite fairy.

Somehow I doubt that Shantae is a "top candidate" but I still agree with your point.

i'm not like a professional advertiser or anything. but the best way to generate hype around a character is to make some hella good art for them and share it everywhere you can. and people LOVE Lip's design. along with her aggressive and tomboy personality. so, for future reference if you guys are serious about people joining the Lip hype train, find some great artists and request a little Lip action. and if anyone here is a dedicated artist, draw some good stuff and get it circulating. making Lip relevant isn't as hard as one may think when putting in some effort and creativity!

I've finally made my profile today and the first thing I want to do is to become a supporter! Lip is my number one all time most wanted character for Super Smash Brothers and I have been wanting to show that on here for a very long time. I'm probably the biggest fan and I have a big collection of stuff that has anything to do about Lip or the games.

I have been wanting to say this for a long time. A lot of people on here has mentioned the recent things that has happened with Lip and or the games. Such as Animal Crossing's addition of Puzzle League, Lip's costume in Animal Crossing, and the fact that the Super Famicom Classic will have the inclusion of Panel de Pon, but no one's mention this yet. In Nintendo Badge Arcade, one of the badges is of the Japanese version of the Gameboy version of Tetris Attack (Yoshi no Panepon).

Was wondering why the old thread didn't get more replies. Didn't realize their was a new one. Watching again. Might pop up on Smashboards once and a while to catch replies.

How do I post a pic on here?
Upload it to imgur, then click this button and paste the imgur URL into the field.

Alternatively, you can just take a screenshot, paste it in MSpaint, crop it with the select tool, cut it and paste it here.

Ahh, poor Lip.

Maybe she should go look for something to do instead of just moping around bored all day. Kasha's always down to play!

I've been working on finishing this model the entire weekend, trying to get it into a presentable state.

I'm a bit undecided, but I think I prefer the top one with the rounder face, as opposed to the bottom model which has a more elongated one. It's close to being done, only some slight texturing work is needed as well as the tip of the ponytail.

Unsure what to do with the model yet, though I guess it's good to have one ready, just in case something comes up.

The rounder face is probably better. She's a small girl so she'd still probably have a fair amount of baby fat in places.

Not much to show, just some touching up on the model and textures.
Made the head slightly rounder again, the flowers a slightly brighter pink and, most notably, changed the iris. I think the new eyes look better. They just need to be spaced out a bit more.

I think at this point, the only thing missing is her mouth and bracelets.

I think her eyes should be bigger.

And try to keep the eyes one eye-width apart, that's the general rule for all drawn characters whether they're stylized or not. Try to imagine an invisible third eye between the eyes and that's how far apart they should be.

That was pretty helpful advice, looking much better now, thanks. Will do the mouth later today and then I think the model's done? At least I don't think there anything missing anymore.

Possible, yes. But as I've said in the past, I'm no artist, so I won't be doing any fancy textures for her. I don't even know where my tablet is to begin with.

i think the original Lip had blush. you should add blush to the cheeks to give her that younger look. i also think the eye color is a little wrong. the majority of her eyes should be blue and the black pupil should be way smaller in the center of her eyes. other than that, it's looking pretty good.

Top Bottom
