Hey guys, in Berlin we just had a discussion about using the claw / clawing.

First things first:
Clawing describes the technique where you hold the controller in a way, that you have your index finger on X/Y to jump and use the c-stick with your thumb.

This was pretty popular in Melee (Esp. Fox) from what I know. I'm not sure if many people in Brawl still use it, due to the possibility of achieving the same effect with putting Jump on L/R/Z.

But nevertheless I still felt like asking, because I find this a very interesting topic.

Especially I would love to know, if/which top players use the claw. Does anyone know if japanese players use the claw?

I personally use the claw like 50% of the match (This depends on the situations and of course and my character too), and I know a Fox player in Berlin who uses it almost the entire match, especially to do SHTL.

What about you? Do you use claw? Do you think it's good? Or is it unnecessary?

Whoops, is there a way to change your vote? XD
I should have chosen the 4th one.

I have X and R set to jump, B and L set to shield, A set to attack, Y set to special and Z set to grab. I never claw and can't think of an input that would be significantly easier with claw given my controls.

Maybe if I tried to do that whole "powershield-cancelling" thing (quotes because that's a misnomer) and I was trying to like PS --> jab/utilt nado with ZSS, I would have my index on B and my middle finger on A. But I never go for that.

It never felt natural to me, it's not an arcade stick it's a controller, but I do tricky AT's that are recommended to use the claw with such as Fox's tripple lasering and Rob's pivot Robo-Burner, I just practiced going from jump to b quickly and now I'm so used to it that I doubt I'll ever need to use the claw technique.
