I never owned a GameCube. I had Brawl since the Japanese version was released (although I couldn't understand a word) and I've been playing with the Wiimote & Nunchuck ever since.

Because of the akward position of the C trigger on the nunchuck, I learned how to jump and shorthop very well with the Analog Stick Tap Jump. I also used the D-Pad on the Wiimote as a sort of Smash C-Stick. Although I have no problem using Luigi with this setup, I decided to get a Classic Controller for my secondary character Lucas (to B-Stick with the Right Analog).

Now that I have the Classic, I might as well use Luigi with it too. Now that I have a Right Analog Stick, I have the option of using it for Smashes (like I'm used to with the Wiimote) or for Tilts (which I normally have a difficulty performing without Smashing). I've started practicing recently and found out that I can crouch cancel better with the Tilt Stick than with the A button. But I've also found that down tilting at the wrong times can make you accidently jump for no apparent reason.

What do the pro Luigi mainers use with the C-Stick? Do they Smash with it or Tilt with it?

Most pros will be using the GC controller, I highly recommend you getting one and becoming good with it. In my opinion it's the best controller ever made for any system.

Most guys on the tourney scene use gamecube controllers, but i geuss its preferences. Though i think no matter how well you use a controller, you will have some inherent disadvantages with it vs a gc one.

there is no reason to have tilts as a cstick move. cstick typically adds speed to an attack because the input is shorter, but luigi can't really spam his moves except maybe dtilt to trip or utilt to rack up hits. But the difference is minute enough that cstick should be on attack, as it speeds up ground smashes AND aerials, which i find more important that two tilt moves IMO. But hey, i am just used to how the game was played in melee so i might be a little biased.

Maybe not classic controller, but i geuss guys who have played melee since day one (like I have), just don't want to change the controller, so in their mind its "better". nunchuk and regular wiimote are inferior though, but i could see myself using classic.

If Luigi's DAir is a spike (in Melee it was, I'm not too sure about Brawl), then I would definitely recommend you putting the C-stick to tilt. Otherwise, it is very hard to try and perform DAirs after the peak of your jump without auto-fastfalling. If you have your C-stick set to tilts, then you won't auto-fastfall with DAir when you C-stick your DAirs, letting you go out and spiking opponents farther from the stage than before. If Luigi's DAir isn't a spike, then I guess it would just be personal preference.

the c stick peels off...? what do you mean?
Probably the Yellow Cover on it peels off...

The Gamecube controller is usually the one that has the AT's discovered in, The Classic controller can do anything the Gamecube one can(Better C-Stick, Faster Button Input) but the Classic controller has a PlayStation controller style more than a nintendo one(Analog sticks in the bottom, 4 buttons forming a square, etc.) so IMO if you liked the GC controller more than PS2(or 1) use the GC Controller, if you like the PS1/2/3 one use the Classic. :)

It's a hard to hit spike, Luigi doesn't have to worry about fast falling it though.

It would be very dumb to have it set to tilts as Luigi because of the importance of a quick up tilted forward smash.

This really isn't so much about which controller is better. But I suppose I have to defend my choice of controller.

I prefer the Wiimote & Nunchuck over the CG Controller. With the exception of the Dash Cancel and Lucas' Wavebounced Zap Jump (both Wavebouncing and Zap Jumping at the same time), I can do every AT with the Wiimote & Nunchuck. Having my Smashes (D-Pad) so close to the A button is worth not being able to Dash Cancel with Luigi. It makes aerial combat, combos, and ATs easier to perform since the heel of my thumb is always on the A and the tip of my thumb always on the D-Pad.

I only got the Classic to help my perform ATs with Lucas, since B-Sticking makes Wavebouncing easier, Zap Jumping easier, and Wavebounce Zap Jumping possible. Now that I am using the Classic, I may as well learn how to use it on Luigi too.

Each controller has it's pros and cons. It really turns into "the one YOU can use the best, IS the best for you." So let's not get into this too deep.

What's really important in this topic is about what is better for a Luigi mainer... C-Stick to Smash or Tilt?

Smash indefinitely. His Smashes will benefit you waaaay more than his tilts unlike other characters. FTilt should only be used for spacing, DTilt is only good occasionally for the rare chance, And USmash outdoes UTilt in almost the same startup. UTilt's only used for low % juggling, anyway. <_< DSmash can be a godsend defensive tool also.

Good points SparkEd.

And metroid, you're right, Smash C-Stick makes Luigi Fast Fall when using dAir, while Tilt C-Stick does not.

EDIT: ALiAs, I believe Aerials come out just as fast with a Tilt C-Stick than they do with a Smash C-Stick.

I still wouldn't use c tilts though, luigi's tilt don't benefit from the speed bonus. and if they did, its too small to notice. Smashes need to come out fast.

Yeah, I think you're right ALiAs. I'll stick with the Smash; with the pun heavily intended.

Once in a while, I'll play a game or two with Tilt Stick just to see if I find any new tactics or hopefully any ATs (there has to be something in that unintentional jump with dTilt while dTilting or landing). But yeah, other than that, I'll Smash Stick all the way. Thank you guys for the discussion.

The real reason why cstick tilt sucks. Random jumps. Press it twice in a row and you jump, that's lame as hell.
