Smash Master
Realize this is my team for the "suspect" ladder that is going on, so please keep the following threats out of the "this will sweep you" rants:
-Garchomp
-Deoxys-s
Otherwise, sit back and enjoy~
@ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/232 Atk/16 Def/8 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
My starter for the team: he does very well in either eliminating the opposing lead, setting up Stealth Rock, or both. The EVs allow Metagross to take a single Choice Band EQ from Jolly Dugtrio and OHKO it back. The insane amount of attack is helpful for Yanmega and Azelf, while the speed helps beat other base 70s who don't put anything into speed.
But Metagross's biggest asset to the team is Explosion: this late-game allows me to blow a hole in the opponent's team, usually opening up a sweep from one of my five members.
@ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 80 Atk/176 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Brick Break
- Fire Blast
- Crunch
A very effective wall-breaker for the team. With Stealth Rock/ Sand Stream up, this easily breaks the constantly annoying CressSkarmBliss defensive combo. The EVs are meant to beat all base 90's not holding a scarf, maxed out Sp. Attack to maximize Draco Meteor's damage potential, with the rest in attack.
With stall teams all the rage at the moment, this does a very good job in breaking the opponent's defensive core. Intimidate also lessens the physical blows dealt by physical sweepers, possibly allowing the remaining members of my team to take it down.
@ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP/252 Atk/8 Def/8 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Tail
- Double-edge
- Focus Punch
- Aqua Jet
This is, without a doubt, my favorite pokemon in the the entire game. With STAB, Huge Power, and a Choice Band, Aqua Jet does a surprising amount of damage to multiple opponents, and can be used to "lock" them late game: forcing them to sacrifice a pokemon with no harm to itself. It also provides an excellent Ice and Fire resist that we all love. The EVs maximize Azumarill's defensive potential while maximizing its attack score. Aqua Tail is used over Waterfall to beat the SkarmBlissCress combo in case Salamence is down.
This does a very good job in breaking teams that rely on "fast but feeble" sweepers, and shouldn't be underestimated by stall teams thanks to his surprising wide coverage and high powered secondary attacks.
@ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Ice Fang
- Ice Shard
A very durable physical sweeper: people tend to look over Mamoswine's decent 80 base speed which, when maxed, allows him to beat Adamant Lucario, Gyarados, and Heracross. For the EVs, I just simply maxed Attack and Speed so I can go for a speed tie against other Mamoswine, at least.
This does a very good job in pressuring the opponent, as an Earthquake as powerful as Garchomp's is something that should not be overlooked.
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- U-Turn
This is a great revenge-killer that surprises a lot of people. Grass Knot becomes immesly powerful against the like of Gyarados(OHKOed after SR) and Tyranitar. Psychic takes out Gengar and Heracross, who are always cocky about staying in on me. Not to mention that STAB helps. Hidden Power [Fire] is useful for Forretress and Scizor that like to come in. If the other three moves won't suffice, GTFO with U-Turn and bring in someone more suited for the job.
This is more of an anti-metagame pokemon which is used to take advantage of my opponent's misplay and KO an unsuspecting opponent. Thanks to the highly offensive nature of DP, it does this job very well.
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Lava Plume
Once the rest of my team has worn down on the opponent, usually this guy trys to go for a sweep. It can also be used as a revenge-killer, if Metagross, Azumarill, and Mamoswine can't do it(lol). I had Hidden Power [Ice] at first, but I like Dragon Pulse since it hits a lot more neutral. Lava Plume is nice for hitting early-game counters such as Gyarados, Salamence, and Swampert. The Burn rate is also much appreciated.
This guy is very good for cleaning up late-game, when the opponent's general counters have been battered a bit by the rest of the team.
