The best outcome for pro custom players at evo

I know many people will look at my joining date here and insist that i don't know what i'm talking about just hear me out. The absolute best outcome for pro custom players is for evo top 8 and 16 to be EXTREMELY heavy on shieks, sonics and zss and rosalina. Also having the same players as well as the heavy hitters form japan at least make the top 32 or 16 would be beneficial as well. It would prove what so many people have claimed: custom moves dont change the game that much. There is no custom move (excluding palutena and the miis) that changes how a character plays or what the gameplan will be. villager spaces, sonic hits and runs, falcon is rushdown, fox does what fox does, ect. If the evo top 8 is almost exclusively default characters that only helps the argument to turn them on.
The worst thing to happen would be a situation like ADHD trolling and trying to get everyone to hate the moves again or esam winning with custom pikachu (but he could win with regular pikachu so not as big a deal to me). Another bad thing woud be DK Will winning. No offense to him but many people wouldn't care that he's the best DK they'd just see wind kong murking the results of a major tournament. Overall I feel the best outcome would be for a guy like Johnnumbers to do well but not win and have zero win grand finals in straight sets. That will do more for custom moves than any smashboards post, youtube video, or reddit post.

It's not been the case yet that customs jank won a sizable event over solid players, so I don't see why EVO would be any different. Sheik, Sonic, Rosalina and ZSS will comprise the majority of the top 16, with Fox, Ness and Pikachu probably up there as well.

What will happen is that a number of matches will be tedious and mind-numbing to watch, and those matches will invariably include a Sonic, a Donkey Kong and a Rosalina.

Why ZeRo winning would be the best outcome eludes me totally. There are a dozen or so players who have a shot at winning EVO, and any one of them would deserve it.

If there are customs in top 8:
"Customs robbed good players from games they should have won! Customs are jank and should be banned!"

If there aren't customs in top 8:
"Customs don't actually make any more characters viable, it's the same metagame as before but with more jank!"

It's a Catch-22.

I definitely understand your train of thought @ blackghost blackghost , but I feel what will be more important is what Scarlet alluded to where we'll see some matches have "jank" and that will be off-putting to the people against them and regardless of who wins, there will still be arguments against them. TheHypnotoad's post sounds pretty likely.

More characters are definatly viable but IMO there no custom set on any character that makes a character go from mid tier to top tier.
If zero ends up winning it shows the game is still the same=zero is the best at it. As someone who has played a LOT of custom moves matches as well as Smash's history of what qualifies as "jank" people will adapt to the meta. Everything thats good that people don't like has been labeled as jank everything from wavedashing to rest, shines to the ken combo. With the exception of like 3 moves the majority of custom moves aren't jank. Crack the customs and ninjalink have done a very good job exposing custom move to the public.

Palutena goes from bottom tier to upper-mid tier.
WFT goes from bottom tier to mid tier.

These are the only two large shifts. DHD and DK get a modest boost, but nothing comparable.

I really feel like customs benefit top tiers as much as/ more than anyone else as it is. Rosalina gets a vastly superior version of Falco's laser and an instant Shadow Sneak at no risk to herself. Pikachu gets, well, we already know what Pikachu gets. And that the DLC characters aren't even getting custom moves makes the whole thing pretty questionable.

I find that Shooting Star Bit is drastically overhyped. It's easy to power shield and it's nothing like Needles. It's just sort've "another projectile".

Luma warp is not an instant shadow sneak. It opens up a plethora of options for Rosalina and encourages interesting uses of Luma, and if the Rosalina player makes use of it they should be rewarded.

HSB is definitely a silly move, but bear in mind, due to a lot of characters getting better recoveries, he loses a lot of his edgeguarding abilities.

It's not "just another projectile." It completely stuffs characters who rely on projectiles or certain kinds of movement for their neutral game (Peach, Lucas, Greninja). It's a safe and instant version of Falco's laser. It's used to disrupt, not to zone, and it's ridiculously good at that.
That's basically saying it's better than Shadow Sneak. Shadow Sneak is unsafe and has slow startup. Luma Warp is instant and poses no risk to Rosalina. Both moves are substantial buffs to an already top tier character.

What do you mean "a lot of characters?" Custom Donkey Kong basically can't be edgeguarded, okay. Palutena gets Jump Glide. Who else is getting buffed recovery that negates Pikachu's off-stage when they previously couldn't?

I hate how our community has such a knee-jerk mob mentality towards the littlest of things. -_-

Example: One or two custom moves are a bit tricky to deal with, but not impossible to overcome.

Community Reaction: "I HATE THIS STUPID PIECE OF JANK! BAN ALL CUSTOMS!"

Top sm4sh player whines about [X Character] or posts some half baked anti customs tweet using words like "jank" or "fraud"

Community Reaction: "If a top player said it, it must be 100 percent factually true!"
