While we wait, what was the best and worst moments of past E3s for you?

The best for me was the one where they wii (then called the Revolution) was first shown. It was a bit disapointing in retrospect but that the time this strange new system had me giddy with excitment.
To get the obvious bad one out of the way, Wii Music. That's all that needs to be said.

The Nintendo Land and Wii Music E3s were incredibly "meh".

E3 2006 was insane because of Brawl and its incredible trailer. I also liked last year quite a bit.

Best: Probably Brawl's (2006) and Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U's (2013) Reveal.

Worst: I forget.

I just thought of another worst two. The mess that Microsoft made last year and the year before. Showing a Disney Kinect game? That'll please the hardcore.

Kinectimals presentation. Full cringe.

I'm confused, what does "pleasing the hardcore" have to do with E3?

I was going to say the same thing; well I don't necessarily know the "worst" e3. None of them are inherently bad; I mean, every e3 offers something.
Yes that's true. There's always new wonders to be found at E3!

The kind of people who buy the more casual games won't be the kind watching E3. The audience of E3 is first and foremost the press but also the traditional gamer. And alot of game journalists would describe themselves as hardcore gamers. That's also why the Wii Sports resorts showcase was such a low point as well.

The best moment of E3 for me has to be Brawl's first trailer:
The gameplay looked great and it had fantastic additions to the roster! Meta Knight, Pit, WARIO (my most wanted character prior to that moment)?! And Snake getting in might have meant that Sonic could! Oh! It was absolutely fantastic! I was immediately hyped when I first saw that trailer!
Though, the reaction to Twilight Princess's reveal is definitely a close second.
Let us not forget the amazing E3 Press Conference that Sony had at E3 2006.

The worst E3 moment? This has to be one of the most embarrassing moments in Nintendo's history:
I cringed while watching this...

The worst was definitely the wii music 2008 e3. That e3 and the e3 with Wii Sports Resort had almost NO substance. They demo'd their terrible Wii Sports games and announced a bunch of B & C class titles, then left your jaw dropping at how terrible and short their conference was.

Best: Last year's smash trailer. It was refreshing to see a truly competent first trailer, by Nintendo no less, for a game which would create this much buzz. When the competitors are squabbling over new consoles Nintendo brings out smash to resounding applause and does the Megaman reveal right there, and Wii Fit Trainer's fantastic reveal... In fact the whole trailer had so much soul and quality, it just really made me feel excited for the game in a way that has been weining significantly since the smash direct got me worried...
I'll be honest I didn't really like Brawl's trailers, it just wasn't very good in my opinion, and Snake was way too left field to even be funny, even with a well designed reveal. Given how the game turned out in the end I guess it was a good indicator of what was to come.

Infact the entire Direct last year rocked, and probably because it was a direct... I'm a real advocate of direct advertising that way, and far preferred seeing the footage for myself, though that's probably my profession talking.

Worst: Nintendo Land Fireworks... Wii Music was a worse presentation, but Nintendo Land was that last minute 'surprise', it got my hopes up for fireworks that would look mediocre on the N64... not good Nintendo, not good.

Outside of Nintendo I've gotta say FFXV last year, I'm not the biggest fan of FF (I'm more into DQ obviously), but I do respect it's attempts at trying new things in the genre... but last year they made it look like a cover shooter, and even with newer trailers it still looks like they ditched the jRPG for generic God of War/COD rip-off street... either way I wouldn't get the game after the turd that was XIII, and to a lesser extent XII, but the trailer ate those last few scraps of respect I had for the series... luckily Bravely Default just remade V, the best in the series, to make a new franchise I can love, possibly even more than DQ if the series gets better rather than just newer.

The best for me had to be last years, I was meeting my girlfriends parents for the first time and I was staying at there place for a couple days. I remember watching the Sony conference where they showed FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3 which made me want to cry out of excitement and joy. Even my gf who isn't much of a gamer was in shock and awe at how FFXV looked. I also remember going home the next day looking at my phone and finding out the news from Nintendo's E3 Direct showing Smash and the other games. It was a great day.

The worst would have to be the E3 where Nintendo ended there conference with Nintendo Land. That was disappointing.

You know that was originally versus 13 a game that has been in development for half a decade and its not linear so that makes it instantly better then 13. Also squall seems like a much more interesting character then lightning ever was. Also it was more like kingdom hearts game play, not an fps like cod where would you even get that the fact guns happen to exist in that universe i mean guns existed in final fantasy way before cod, .

Geeze, it seems like E3 2011 was such a mess in retrospect. Here's a golden moment from the Sony conference, the thrilling Medieval Moves demonstration. Nice shot Jeremy

Best:
Nintendo 2004 (Reggie, DS, and Twilight Princess reveals.)
Nintendo 2006 (Wii reveal and hype to the max, along with Brawl, Mario Galaxy, and MP3)
Nintendo 2010 (Tons of awesome games here.)
Smash Bros. 4 2013 Reveal (New Smash Bros + Mega Man and the Wii Fit Trainer. Nuff said.)
Sony 2013 (Capitalizing on Microsoft's screw-ups, plus the one-two punch of Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.)

Worst:
Sony 2006 (This was the moment it all went downhill for Sony. Plus so many memes!)
Nintendo 2008 (Just nothing good/interesting/cool to show off.)
Nintendo 2012 (The Wii U reveal was cool, but everything else was playing it too safe.)
Konami 2010 (I agree with whoever said it was simultaneously the best and the worst.)

Okay, if we're talking other companies than Nintendo, Konami 2010 is the winner of everything. That's not just a conference, it's an experience in itself.

PS3 Reveal was the worst E3 by far by any one company. It singlehandedly demolished Sony's unprecedented success streak right up to the PS2, and it took the entire lifespan of the PS3 console to recover its reputation. All those contradictions and the arrogance exhibited by its staff and Jack Tretton right up to its release: deplorable. I think it really gave Sony a reality check on what it can get away with.

Microsoft's Xbox One reveal was terrible, but for different reasons. Its original online-only, digital-disk version was a stark contrast to the physical-disk, offline-optional PS4, and presented a road that no sane, moderate gamer wants to go down. The month that they had to scramble and reverse their policies was too little time to make any big impression at E3, and all Sony had to do was say the opposite of Microsoft's criticisms and they would easily triumph (which they did). Microsoft also didn't seem ready to accept that Kinect wouldn't sell like Wiimote hotcakes and original IPs keep a console afloat, having enjoyed all that yummy Call of Duty revenue for a while now.

Best for me was Microsoft's 2007 conference with the Halo 3 reveal and Nintendo's Wii reveal (were they both 2007?). I would like to see them "wow" me again, because the last few E3's have been pretty lackluster in my opinion.

I always get tingles watching the reactions to Smash Bros Melee and Twilight Princess. Hell, watching the Smash 4 initial trailer brings be back to when I first watched it, and how excited and happy I was.

I really hope this year we get something of the same avail from Nintendo, with Zelda Wii U, Myamotos new IP and whatever else they have in store for us.

Worst has to go to Mr. Caffeine and the Spellbook crap we got from Sony last year (I think?)

Best: Sony 2013 (Capitalizing on Microsoft's screw-ups, plus the one-two punch of Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.)
On that particular note, I have to respectfully disagree with you, as I'm sure a few disgruntled PS3 owners would. Let's not forget what Final Fantasy XV is, or should I say, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It was originally part of a proposed Fabula Nova Crystallus trilogy, which would be tied in with Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0 (formerly Agito XIII), and was scheduled to be a PS3 exclusive. That was in 2006.

8 years of development hell later, and now it's been moved to the next console (Moral: Don't buy your system before the game is out), rebranded and separated from an incomplete trilogy that was a dismal failure. Type-0 still hasn't been released on English shores, and FF13 seems to be divided in reception: The characters are not the best-received, despite the main protagonist being a Squall (and therefore Cloud) clone in personality.

Worse still, both FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released on XBox One. What victory is to be had in presenting a game that both consoles will receive, especially one that was originally your exclusive? It wasn't so much a victory note for Sony, but rather effective damage control by Square Enix, as they try to remodel themselves and rebuild their reputation. They've done that by fixing Final Fantasy XIV, but another bad Final Fantasy is definitely something they don't need now, and the long wait means there's a lot of expectations riding on this increment. Also, we don't get Kingdom Hearts 3 until XV is out, since they had to move their staff over to it to get it done...

Melee's trailer was really well done. I can only hope for something that's just as good in SSB4. Brawl's didn't quite have the same impact upon watching it,

@ G Gazdakka Gizbang , I was 17 when E3 2006 happened, so I'm well aware of the history of the Fabula Nova Crystallis. Versus XIII and Agito XIII weren't going to be continuations of the same story that XIII started, it was always set up to be something like the Star Wars Extended Universe, where they share a similar mythology but not the same characters or time period. Also, it used to be that people had to wait until FFXV was released for KHIII to come out, but the team behind the handheld Kingdom Hearts titles (Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance) are working on KHIII so that Nomura's team can focus on FFXV. I wouldn't be surprised if KHIII came out next year what with there being yearly releases in the series since 2010.

Despite all the troubled development history, it didn't change the fact that I was really excited to see the two games announced. I'd even go so far as to say them being multiplatform is a plus for me, because I really wanted to get an Xbox One for Killer Instinct, and now if I do I'll also be able to get KHIII, FFXV, MGS5, and Sunset Overdrive as well.

And for the record, I highly enjoyed the first two FFXIII games.

I've got no problem with it being multiplatform either, since Sony's first-party IPs aren't really doing it for me. Kratos has run his course (killing more gods would be beating a dead horse), Infamous has moved in a direction I'm not sure I like, Killzone is still playing second fiddle to its rivals, and I never got into Uncharted. They need another IP for me to invest my interest.

Of course, that's not to say that Microsoft really has many, they just have the main one I like. They could certainly use more.

The trailer for Kid Icarus Uprising was probably my favorite best moment for obvious reasons. The mere mention of the new Smash Bros (prior to the one with the trailer) was also great.

The worst part of any E3 is sitting through 3rd party nonsense when you're waiting for a new Mario/Zelda/Kirby/Metroid/Smash to be announced.
