So, I thought it would be cool if we had a topic where anyone in Texas, or the southwest for that matter, could ask for advice concerning brawl :).

Wondering what stages you should ban? Match-ups you should avoid? Why the best players win?

Ask here :). I'll do my best to answer any questions, and I'm sure everyone else has pleanty of advice to offer :).

Lets help each other get better :). It would be amazing for everyone in Texas to be really really good, and this is a small step in that direction.

If someone bans Rainbow Cruise from you, what other stage would you use :D
Me personally?

Depends on what stage is legal. Almost everyone bans Corneria agaisnt me though, so lol. I would go Corneria/Frigate...or maybe somewhere else depending on the match-up.

What are some other bad stages against falco other than Lylat?
Frigate Orpheon!!!!

Falco's hate that stage. Delphino is pretty good against falco as well since he can kill himself pretty easily with phantasm. Falco isn't horrible on RC, but I like taking him there...

Soo:

Lylat
Frigate
Delphino
Rainbow Cruise

They are all pretty good choices.

Edit: Sethlon might be able to give a better answer then that though :).

hmmm.
im not sure that anyone in here can answer this question due to the lack lack of weegee in TX but:
Whats stages should i ban when im playing as Luigi.
i was thinking Rainbow cruise, but then i have Coneria to worry about.
that low ceiling with Luigi's lightness is ballz
and then norfair is just a ball scratcher all by itself.....

I wouldnt ban corneria out of those if I were you. Your smashes kill really fast, and on corneria.. it seems like it would be pretty scary to fight a luigi there.

brinstar is also pretty bad for falco. don't really know if that is a good stage for TL though.

i'm really not a big fan of norfair either.

Seriously, the thread title is going to make everyone in Dallas laugh.

On a related note: I'll be happy to help out in here :p

@ Rage - You can do that, but the best option if you get hit by it is to let it pop you out and down air the other Metaknight through the top of the tornado. If you don't get hit by it then you've got a lot of other options, so go with what is best in the situation.

I laughed... and then I double checked to make sure Infinity hadn't made it.

Take Luigi's to places with high ceilings... all their killers KO off the top (except backfired missiles).

Pretty sound advice there. Luigi's Mansion, Final Destination(sometimes), and Pictochat are prime examples of bad Weegee stages. You want vert kills with him, and those stages have high ceilings, so yeah.

Most of your stage bans are going to be character(or player) specific. Luigi tends to have more trouble on certain levels against certain characters. If I'm up against Metaknight(which is like, 70% of all my tourney matches, LOL), I immediately ban the Mansion, for example. Against Falco, I ban FD and would counterpick Brinstar, etc.

Really, Luigi doesn't have any really terrible stages per se, but you really don't want to limit your KO potential if you don't have to. That's why I dislike Luigi's Mansion so much(the irony).
Just learn your match-ups well and keep an eye on what players prefer which stages and their reasons why.

Based primarily on high ceilings, I would say Yoshi's Island and Frigate for high-ceilings as well. And of course Jungle Japes...

I can try to help with stuff. I know lots of random stuff, lol. :)

i don't think that Luigi really relies on off the top KOs
if you, for whatever reason, don't angle your Fsmash upward, they, most of the time, get koed off the side.
well more like the corner.
and his Bair is off the side KO, Dsmash sometimes.
I actually get most of my KOs off the ledge.
i edge guard most of the time =/

People are just worried about Luigi's UpB for the most part. He does have more horizontal kill options than vertical. Disregard, I KNOW NOTHING!!!!!!1111!! :)

Up B, Nair, Up Angled Fsmash (the fastest version of it), Uptilt/Upsmash all kill off the top. Anything else he has pales in comparison to those kill moves.

I need some advice. What sort of bamboo do Pandas like to chew on while smashing, Rockettrainer? :D

Dsmash hits off the top... I don't think I've ever seen it hit sideways, lol. And you're listing things that kill WAY later... except back throw I guess. Misfire isn't reliable b/c it's random, hence why I don't count it. Nair is insanely fast and insanely high priority, Up B kills ridiculously early and can bet set up with a jab or good read, Up Angles Fsmash is amazingly fast and has IASA frames, and then uptilt is also really quick. Upsmash is slower but it has a pretty big sweeping range.

Backair isn't as useful b/c Luigi's airspeed is slow, fair is pretty weak, and non-up-angled fsmashes are slow.

WHY DO YOU KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT LUIGI, PHANTOM X?!!?

Now I'm scared to play Luigi against you... :(

Honestly, if you're not using any of these moves(up-angled F-Smash, Up-B, Up-Smash, Down-Smash) to kill people with Luigi, you're not using him properly. Weegee kills more consistently off the top, period.

and i never said he didnt.
im saying that i shouldnt be picking a stage based only on half of he kill potential.
i need to take his horizontal KOs into consideration.

Yoshi's Island (brawl) is annoying for falco too. The slopes make it so you have to go out of your way to not overB onto them, and they also make it easy for someone approaching to get under your lasers.

Get modded, then I can't infract you, no matter how much I want to (Hylian!)
Funny thing is, I can actually infract drew, but he can't infract me lol.

*gives Drew infractions*

Anyways,

Dojo/Infinity or other MK players:
If someone is on a platform above you shielding and you uair them from below, the best follow up is a nair correct? After the nair(if it doesn't connect) how do you follow up? Jump away with dair? Fall towards them with fair? AD down?

if only metaknight was in melee, had a shine and laser needles. also his dair was marth's spike. you could pillar.

i was told meta's sword is longer than marth's: fact or fiction.

Actually, it depends on the moves. I'm almost certain that Meta's fair slightly beats out Marth's fair, but I could be wrong....it might be one of those "whoever attacks first, gets hit" types of things. There's a lot of that in Brawl. :ohwell:

It depends on where the neutral air sends them when they shield it. If it knocks them off the platform then I land and chase them with whatever, but assuming that they stay on the platform and they continue shielding after the neutral air then I normally down air them or try and shield poke them with tornado.

This scenario is exactly what happened to me:( U should just jump away if there starting to platform pressure...thats what i did...and it worked okay

i wish metaknight could be counterpicked:(

As an Ike mainer trying to get better, in what order should I focus on these things: Teching, Watching the opponent's character instead of my own, and my reaction time. I suck at all three of those things, though my teching is getting better.
