Hah, I doubt they'll be freaked out. Well, maybe. But I didn't even try that because I'm sure lots of people have Cory as their 3DS name.

Youre thinking Wii where every single game/console combo had a specific friend code. This was the very reason why the wii was so easy to hack since it had 0 proof that the game was legit, since this code was generated not pre-set.
3DS you have to set up your Mii in the main menu (not in any games). Its the little smily face icon at the top. Once you have it set up, thats where your friend code is found and where you add others. In order to add someone you have to give them yours and they need to give you theirs. It will just be "friend pending" or something like that till both parties add each other.

Much better system, since its cross-game compatible.
